I received an older Craftsman than this and it won’t start. I never used a snow blower before. I might need to clean carburetor or change spark plug but no idea where they are located. No manual. Your video is closest I found to it. I tried using a 50’ chord because its all I had. Maybe choke was in wrong position. And rabbit at zero! I did prime but didn’t know how much because weed wacker has this feature. Thanks for mentioning the chord. I can try looking for an extension that is shorter. If only I had a manual! It won’t start electrically unless I keep pressing start button. But rabbit or choke were in wrong positions likely. I would love a maintenance video or troubleshooting for this brand if its been sitting 10 years etc. I pray it starts after your video! If not I need more help.

You saved my snow day today with your video which, by the Grace of God, I FOUND! My snowblower sitting all winter (my neighbor did my driveway all winter, but today, couldn’t) would not start! Plenty clean oil. Fuel with stabilizer. BUT I had plugged in my VERY long extension chord, and though there was a good rumble, the blower would not turn over!! Right at the beginning of your video, you warned about using a long chord!! I switched out the chord, used my shorter one, adjusted the throttle and choke like you recommended and within minutes, the snow blower turned on!!! Thank you so very, very much for your very clear, understandable and helpful video! 👏🏻 💗

Very helpful video. And I agree that holding down the auger handle before going into snow is helpful. I had drive mine into heavy snow without running the auger and then when I was ready to blow and held down the auger handle the engine just shut off, because the auger and blades were clogged. I had to clear it out before it was able to spin.

95% of all no start conditions with snow throwers are fuel related. Meaning, the gas goes bad inside the carburetor from sitting. Most of the time you will need to remove the carburetor and either rebuild it or replace it.

If there is a button on the handle? It may not be disengaging correctly so you can move left to right. I would start there. I would need to see the machine to diagnose further. It is very difficult to diagnose without seeing the machine.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Hi. What I was able to figure out is the joystick which controls left/right and up/down motions was not working correctly. Got it working last night not sure how because I took all apart and just put it back together. But when I went into my 32 degree garage this morning again it wasn't moving. So I took a hair dryer to the joystick heated it up and it worked again. I guess you have to replace that whole assembly not just the joystick correct? Thanks.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines2 жыл бұрын
@@dj5752 It sounds like water freezing inside it may be the issue. I would suggest spray oil (WD 40) or equivalent inside and around the mechanism that you used the hair dryer to loosen it up. That may cure it. It may need to dry out from moisture? Yes you replace the entire mechanism if needed.

I have this exact one. Tried to start it after it was outside in the cold. I used the electric start button. Was pushing it and the engine kept turning over but it wouldn't start. Now when I push the electric start button it just clicks and won't even turn over. What do you think happened?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines2 жыл бұрын
(1) If you used too long of an extension cord and heated up the starter or if you just press the button too long and heated up the starter, you could have fried your starter. See if you can pull the pull rope and if the engine will spin with the pull rope? Most likely you fried the starter. (2)check to make sure you did not trip a breaker in the house on that outlet? (3)Check the oil to see if it is very high on the dipstick? If it is? Smell the oil and if it smells like gas , your engine has filled with gas do to a bad carburetor and now has so much fuel in the cylinder that it will not compress the fuel and now the engine is locked up. You will need to drain the entire engine fix the carburetor before trying it again.

Question, I just bought the same snow blower, a 28", got it brand new, when I started for the first time and I shut it off, smoke was coming out of the motor, is that normal?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what kind of smoke? Make sure you checked oil level not to overfill it! or being that it is brand new there may be some paint or somthing from factory that is burning off the engine? Hard to say without seeing it or smelling the smoke that is burning to tell what the smoke may be.

Bought brand new then when i start it, it shut off and engine pull locked. Oil came out dont know what happened but i put gas and oil before i statred it
@JohnsonsSmallEngines2 жыл бұрын
There is fuel in your cylinder that is why the pull rope is locked. The carburetor has failed and you will need to remove it and rebuild or replace it. Then you will have to drain the oil from the crank case and refill. You will also need to remove the spark plug and pull the pool cord over so the fuel will remove itself from the engine by coming out of the spark plug hole. You must be very careful when doing this or somebody will get hit with fuel or you can also start a fire if not careful.Meaning make sure the spark plug wire is away from the spark plug hole when performing this procedure. Good luck. The initial issue was the carburetor failed. Then resulted in a locked pool cord from fuel entering the engine in the combustion chamber.

I don’t understand what’s wrong with mine, I got it serviced for $360 dollars last year, fuel plug, spark plug both changed. I made sure i Left no Gas in the machine when winter was over. Now I’m trying to get prepped for this winter, and put fresh full tank of gas, can not get it to start, tried pull start and electric start, can not get it to turn over. Can somebody maybe give me some info on what I’m doing wrong?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what exact model you have but a lot of times when you say ”I left no gas in it” and your machine has sat for over three months and it does not start. I would say that there was gas left in the carburetor and now you will need to remove the carburetor and clean it or at least drain the carburetor bowl and flush the fuel through to get good gas from the gas tank through the carburetor. Then try and start it, then go from there. This video may help you.kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZuVZohqe6mJY5I

I hear Craftsmans have bad carburetors?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines3 жыл бұрын
It’s not that the carburetors are bad. It is the carburetors going bad due to gas going bad from sitting in the carburetors fir too long. If you run your snowthrower every couple months and put good fuel in it. You should not have the issues with the carburetor going bad. Craftsman doesn’t make anything they just put there name on it except maybe there wrenches?
