I love that you touched on "there's so much more to life than eating a perfect diet". So often people in the field of nutrition, AND people who are just plain looking to get healthier in life think that they need to be perfect in order to be healthy. I think it's so important to emphasize the importance of balance over perfection. We have to enjoy the foods we eat and the life we live! Love your wise words, Becca!

Definitely agree with you! This is the reason why people find it so hard to start a healthy lifestyle, they think it can only be done when always sticking to it. That's certainly not the case and more people should emphasize this!

A good tip is ADD good food, don't "take away" bad food. If you're adding healthy foods to your fridge/pantry, the bad food will slowly go away. If you're adding, you're brain won't look at it as you can't have things, cause you'll crave things you "can't" have!

About 3 years ago I finished losing the 60lb I wanted to lose. I did this by started to be aware of what I ate (which motivated me to eat less junk). But over time I'd switch to eating even healthier or finding healthier versions of my favourite "bad" food. I however never stopped indulging in occasion in the truly decadent foods. I also swapped around exercises until I found ones I really liked. I haven't gained the weight back. I agree with your statements Becca and I think that's why I was able to lose and maintain that weight.

I started watching your channel when my second baby was born and then stopped for a while as life got busy and ... messy! Restrictive dieting and excessive exercise to help me feel in control when things were uncertain financially and I was isolated in terms of where we lived and what I could do. This video comes as such a relief and brings so many answers and reassurance. I've had an eating disorder or another, on and off, since I was about 9 and I'm 36 this year! Up until last year, I had never weighed as little as I have in my whole life and I was being tested for all sorts of things only to be told that there is nothing wrong with me! Turns out, once I allowed myself to eat (still not there yet), lots of those issues have started to dissipate. Therapy too. So glad I started watching this again. Balance is what you "preach" and that's what I need.

I am so happy i found this video. I have so much stress in my life right now that I feel like I am in a round room looking for a corner. At 42 my main goal this year is get healthy. Not just with my food and exercise but with my job( or at least get a different job that isn't stressing me out). Everything you said is exactly what i needed to hear. I subscribed so i will be able to watch this again and hopefully stay on better track. Keep up the amazing work.

thanks for this video! A few days ago, the thought of 'health' to me became more defined as holistic lifestyle. I used to go to the gym most days of the week and it worked for a while...I enjoyed it! These days things have changed a bit and different factors (mental, physical, work schedule, etc.) means that exercising and everything else looks different. It has been a struggle for a while to find balance and your video has helped me see and understand a different perspective and, above all, find joy these things. I will definitely be following you because you bring refreshment to those who listen/watch!

I recently subscribed to your channel so I'm late to the party, but I have binge watched you and you motivate me to do better. You are such a breath of fresh air and I'm glad I found your channel! Some people make weight loss and healthy eating so hard, and it doesn't have to be. This video prices that moderation, consideration and patience will get you to a good place. All the calorie counting and strict regimens, charts and graphs....I've tried them all and none of them were long term. I was burnt out and bored...and I quit. I want to be able to dance and run and beat my 6 year old son at basketball....just live! I'm telling you, you've got me off to a great start. THANK YOU!

Thank you so much for creating this video! It is such a common misconception with 'health' videos that if you start some insane routine it's somehow just going to work, which when you think about it the way you have, is completely unrealistic. The age and era that I am in (17 years old) puts so much pressure on having 'healthy' lifestyles which are purely based on what your body looks like. Thanks for putting things in perspective, keep up your amazing videos

Hi Maisie! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video, thank you so much for watching & for your sweet comment! And you are SO right - there is such an intense focus on what everyone's body looks like, and everyone is so obsessed with 'getting abs' it drives me crazy!!! Health is SO MUCH more then abs or toned arms or a thigh gap. In fact, that's the last thing people should be thinking about! If you take care of your body, eat to feel good, and exercise because it makes you feel good (aka all positive things/outlooks) our outward appearance will catch up. But even that being said...everyone's bodies are built so different, even some of the healthiest people will never see ab definition or a gap in their legs! And just because someone does have visible abs or whatever else, it doesn't mean they are healthy on the inside as well (both physically AND mentally). Sorry for the novel haha but I just have so much care/concern for your age group, there is so much pressure on you guys and I just want everyone to know what health is really about!! xx

New subscriber! 🙋🏻 this video confirmed everything I've been thinking lately... I feel like I've finally 'got it' - I'm 27 and have had 20 years of anxiety about my weight. I am doing really well living a healthy lifestyle at the moment, and I've discovered that for me the key is not making a big deal out of it. No big proclamations e.g. 'I'm going to lose 30lbs' 'I'm gluten free' 'I'm going to do 7 workouts this week'. I'm just taking it an hour at a time, making healthy choices for the next hour is my goal - my holiday in May is too far away to be my goal, I think 'oh May is ages away, so I can diet next week'. I'm being way more mindful, listening to what my body actually wants and needs rather than what it is craving (for me a sugar craving means either water or sleep). And I'm just chilling out about everything for once. Seems to be working!

You've gained a follower, I LOVED THIS video. I feel like you explain it really well. Sometimes we don't give stress the importance it has. I really think people should discover what a healthy life is FOR THEM and stop comparing with the rest of the world and stop also judging ourselves. Basic knowledge about nutrition and food is necessary but we always have to acompany it with doing what feels good for us, that way i am sure everyone would end up in a healthy weight and having a healthy lifestyle. Hey Becca! Love your videos. I see you kind of as an older sister figure. You remind me to honor, love and listen to my body. I did a self compassion meditation this morning and it brought some ill feelings up. Now I really know that something needs to change so that I can actually reach my goals

I now realize that there's things that are so much more important than just killing my brain with food and workout obssession, with the desire to be "healthy" but only on the outside... Now i've understood that being healthy starts with the inside, and i'll trynna be kind with myself ; cause our body is the only person who wont leave. 😁 Thank you sooooo much Becca, i discovered you a few hours ago and i already love what you do! I really love this! It was very helpful and you're one of few health youtubers who offers advice for people who aren't looking to be vegan. This isn't bashing on vegans, it's just that in my situation I don't think that veganism is an option and it's too limiting from the foods that I like to enjoy, thus my stress rate would go up.

I love everything you stand for! It is all about balance and finding what works for you. I see so many people struggle with diets and making themselves do workouts/ eat food they do not like, to lose some weight. It has to be sustainable! I wish more people would see this and think like you do.

I wanted to thank you so much for this video! I really needed to hear this i started a really strict vegan diet at the beginning of this year and at first I felt amazing but then i became obsessed with what i was eating and it was so so stressful! i felt like a complete failure for feeling like i didnt want do it anymore... but coming across your video it really spoke to me and made so much sense so thank you:)

Amen! You hit the nail on the head ! I always tell people I do not do a New Years resolution for myself because I want to be realistic and life a healthy way of life always but blance is key ! Although yes goals are awesome and I have a goal by summer but I give myself grace. God gave us one body, I want to treat it well because I want to be strong & feel good during this life! I stumbled across your channel a couple of months ago and am loving your videos! I am currently a dietetic intern and it seems as though my family and friends think the best way for them to live a healthy lifestyle is for me to make them a meal plan or prescribe a special diet. I feel like I preach the information in this video every day and I look forward to sharing it with others! I really, REALLY needed to hear this. I'm an all or nothing person. I've been struggling to lose about 30 pounds for a long time due to a medicine. I've always had that all or nothing approach to diet and exercise. which always leads to me to contantly quitting both off and on. Thus accomplishing nothing. Thanks so much for this!

This video was exactly what I needed to hear. Right now I'm at a place where I feel life I've done so much yo-yo dieting and extreme exercise plans that thinking about getting back into a healthy lifestyle is a major stresser for me. I'm trying to eat healthy all day and im doing really good but by the time the evening comes my cravings kick in. I stresses me out I can't have it but if I do I feel so guilty afterwards! help?

This is really outstanding. Another expression I like is, for every diet there is and equal and opposite binge. There is a lot of Geneen Roth in your philopsophy -- you should read her books in case you have not. The best one from a purely practical point is Breaking Free from Emotional Eating

I was raised off a crap diet growing up (basically great value branded everything and veggies/fruit in a can) we have many siblings and were on a budget. as an adult i can feel my body cringing and curdling! i've started plexus which is a gut health supplement brand and its been doing wonders of healing from the inside out. my body now craves all the whole foods that liven me up! ugh i love it. so glad i found someone like you that make it seem fun and realistic!!!

Love this video! I recently did about a month of 'Slimming World', which is basically a really restrictive low fat, low sugar diet popular in the UK, and it was SO stressful! I just couldnt maintain it, plus everything i ate tasted really bland because there was no fat in it. Naturally i ended up binging and giving up. Thank you for this video, it's helped me understand where I went wrong. I think i just need to focus on eating like a normal eater ie. a person who doesn't diet or binge. Im so glad I can eat avocado again, now that Im not following the 'fat is evil' diet! Yay for balance! x

I agree with everything you've said! I've recently discovered this is the best approach to a healthy lifestyle for myself and you just confirmed my way of thinking! love this video! your so right, you can not go from one extreme to another extreme like eatting crap to salads all of a sudden! I use to think ok day 1 eat healthy workout and would always fail but now I'm just trying to eat healthy one day at a time and if I want cookout once every couple weeks or so then I'll eat it because what I'm eatting the rest of the week is so good for me. take it one day at a time and slowly add things in and take the bad out. eventually add in walking then running again. :) love this video. please do a video on what you said at the end. I don't know what that is and would love to learn more!! and post some more recipes and what you eat in a day. yummy. I started making your Buddha bowl this week and omg it's so good, never had butternut squash until yesterday and yum. love ya girl. xoxo
