Before getting on the road you should knock on 20 shipping companies doors per week until you get at least have 2-3 direct shippers locally who is paying a good rate in a lane that will put you in a good market. Then find a direct shipper in the destination location so you can get back home. When you establish that, then use the load board as add on. Something very light. Ex: Houston to Chicago $2.60 direct shipper plus a light load board freight at $1.20 will put you at $3.80 traveling 1,100 miles for $4,180 on that trip. Establish a direct shipper in Chicago coming back to Houston. Use the load board for add ons. That will put you around $8,000 per week. Three times a month, that’s $24,000 in revenue for the month. This only an example. Don’t stay on the load board. I understand this may be all foreign to you, so I encourage you to screenshot this and always use it as a reference and do your research. 💪 *Fuel card: Wex Fleet One Edge *ELD: GeoTab with etruck.com *Insurance: dbschenker.com *Load board: truckstop.com *Magnetic decal: magnetsonthecheap.com 12x18 with 2 inches letters .045 size *Must supplies: straps, chains, tarps.

There is definitely money in it. Only downside is the potential unforeseen expenses. Truck and trailer breaking down. If you can manage that, there is money!

How much does it cost to start? Can we see a break down for us on costs.😮
@nate_indiana_jones9 ай бұрын
Every start up is different. Depends on the truck and trailer. Depends what you haul.

I think insurance is more then that, i see people paying close to 2k a month

I own an insurance agency in midwest and rates are lower here. Depending on your state it can be higher.

I’m at $2200 ins and diesel and DEF can easily be .50c mile. CDL only makes sense to me to get decent loads that can handle the weight. 8 new tires for the trailer. 2 steers for the truck. Don’t run your engine when you’re sleeping. Getting a dependable driver to take care of your equipment and your MC that’s kinda scary. We are 6mo old now and some brokers are starting to allow you to get load’s from them

Yeah it seems like the longer you are in business the better loads you get. Have to fight the first 2 years. @@jollyrodger1537

You have to get insurance from the state in which your business is domiciled.

All the videos for 2024 say the rates are horrible now. I havent seen anything close to the amount you claim. Sounds like a best case scenario and even steady all the time.

Yeah rates are pretty low right now, may be slow right now but when things turnaround at least you will be established

@nate_indiana_jones well I'm not in a position to be an owner operator but a guy I work(he owns a couple box trucks and a hot shot with hauling lumber said he would get a truck and trailer and I could drive it if I was really interested. He has a son that did it and knows about the business

No you don’t need a 70k truck and a 30k trailer 😂 get you a good used gooseneck for 10k and put new tires and bearings in it. And a good 7.3 with low miles for 15k. Quit telling people they need to buy brand new shit to start a business
