Yes, all licenses have to be sought after with your Secretary of State. Each state regulates differently ( which is why I don't mention details for that ). Cost and processing times for licensing vary.

If your moving company will operate solely within a single state and will not cross state lines, the need for a USDOT Number will depend on the regulations of that specific state. Some states require a USDOT Number for intrastate (within the state) commercial motor carriers, while others have their own state-specific identification numbers and requirements. In addition to a USDOT Number, you may also need to obtain a Motor Carrier (MC) Number if you are transporting regulated commodities for hire across state lines.
