Thank you so very much. I am very pissed off with all the new electronics in vehicles these days and the associated costs so any help is deeply appreciated. Thought that as long as the FOB goes bad then one is up a creek and stranded. But thanks to you I now know that I can still start with the FOB end. Thank you so very much.

Another nice video. I believe the way it works with a dead battery is an induction type coil in the start button that can provide enough power to read the key. It is a very small amount needed. Something like .05 volts. Keep the videos coming.
@MarionBlair7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I was wondering how they maintains the secure relationship between the key and module. Pretty smart.
@MrSschamber27 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's inductive. The magnetic field from the coil behind the start button induces a current in the coil inside of the the fob, which is enough to power the circuity that lets the truck know the correct fob is present.

Thank You Marion. My 2009 Nissan Maxima has a slot that the key fob actually gets inserted into and the dealer was nice enough to show me when I bought the car. This is nice to know because there will definitely be times when you realize your battery in your remote is getting low and you forget to go buy one and then the inevitable happens.
@famousmidnight5 жыл бұрын
It's the same technology that's been in keys for a long time. There's a circular antenna around the start button that recognizes a chip in the key.

Just got out of the deer stand and my fob was dead. Used the back up key to get in the truck and the emergency alarm went off. I'm sure every deer in Henry County, AL is long gone. :-) Wife sent me a link to this video so I could crank it. Thanks!
@MrSschamber27 жыл бұрын
Informative video...starting the vehicle with a dead key fob works due to the inductive coupling of power from the truck to the fob. This is much like the wireless charging of newer cell phones that don't have to be plugged in. When you hold the nose of the fob against the start button, power from the truck battery inductively couples to the fob powering it enough to let the vehicle know the fob is present.

A fellow in Canada posted a video about having his Toyota truck stolen by organized criminals who picked up the signal from the key fob (which transmits all the time) and making a copy key. Leaving the battery out of the fob will stop the transmissions but still allow you to start with the method you showed here. The Toyota has a way to turn off the fob but I don't know about Dodge Ram.

My RAM battery keeps going dead after working around it for 3 hours or more ( I am a mobile detailer). Dealer replaced what they say is defective start button that doesn't turn everything off when I turn the truck.off. After replacement, the problem.started happening again. Interestingly, the battery is never dead in the truck when I leave the house in the morning. Decided to try removing the FOB battery and no more issues. Truck battery does not go dead anymore. So I removed the FOB battery permanently. The only nuisance is if I need to lock the vehicle, I have to remove the key to.unlock it again. I'll keep operating this way until I have time to go to the dealership and give them another crack.at fixing it. Thanks for.the video.

Haven't needed this trick yet but it will be nice to know if I'm stuck somewhere. I've never seen this anywhere else. My 2018 Cummins powered Tungsten Edition has been flawless as far as reliability at about 35,000 miles. It was a comfortable workhorse last summer, pulling our travel trailer on a tour of eight states over a five month 10,000 mile journey. I hope you're staying well during this virus Marion. We're both in this supposedly high risk group. How about even just a short video to let us know you're doing ok?

In my case, I think it's that I'm a little slow thinking and talking and it gets worse as I go. Also, I'm an amateur and never dreamed I'd be doing these videos. Always loved photography but knew nothing about video. I'm learning as I go but working on that very think you mentioned. There's another answer that I could have shorten, ha.

That is a very good honest question, allow me to tell you why,,, For algorithm type funky reasons videos that are MORE than 10 minutes are Monetized"at a higher rate, learned that from a KZbin blogger who had a video on just such the reason. Do you know if the battery has to be out or does it make a difference if the dead or weak battery is in the key fob or not?
@MarionBlair3 жыл бұрын
I think it should work with it in but only did it with it out like in the video. You should get an alarm on the panel reporting low battery before it quits working.
@MrDazana3 жыл бұрын
Fun fact. This works because the key fob uses a RFID chip. The key fob can be destroyed and as long as the small ship is intact, it will still start the truck
