Key lessons from this session :- - Riding the wave = take on a macro trend that's working(i.e; focus on growing industry) and build something in that , it is much easier to win than going against the trend. - If you can spot the talent in an individual and then map it to the job role that they are playing in an organisation, you unlock true potential of the employee. - If you are playing in a market. when you don't get into leadership mode , you don't get invited to the deals. - If you want to be taken seriously you go after the biggest (market leader) but your product have to be world class. If you are able to launch as an alternative to the dominant market then you will be invited to the party. -Do remarkable things to stand out. If you are a startup it's not okay just to stay somewhere quiet and build it and hope that they will come, they will not come, you have to create a remarkable product and make some noise and go against the best and make sure that people sit-up and take notice. - It's relatively easier to build a company that is loved by shareholders but it's much much harder to build a company thats loved by employees, loved by customers and also loved by the shareholders. It's hard but it is worth trying.

Good Talk. Point 1 was riding the wave ,point 2,3 are against the wave .This model is agile . Advice : Girish was VP of a SaaS Company .So his vast experience( Point 1 ) gave him the success .So all entrepreneurs must note this . Also the company played with the career of freshers engineer (albeit successfully),education basics are needed to strengthen the work experience .Sometime such a track change can be disastrous for freshers Important point is the environment needed to sell software in India is not easy and rewarding unless it is a huge government contract .So unless you can spend at a global level don't jump into the software entrepreneurship

"Do enough to get invited to the party" is a recipe for group think. Build world class stuff, but don't shy away from going against the grain. Software isn't that far along, there is a lot of potential for counter-culture ideas to flourish.

my two cents - Girish is not god, people are listening and as well engaging in mobile, but I see people commenting in negative way! This could change in India .. Great people got into IIM A, but i’m sorry there is a big gap in soft skills nobody said hello or set some context before talking, straight got into main Qs. Maybe this could be mapped to girish’s point there is lack of focus on UX or Product design. (stretch analogy, cheers to people who got it)

By riding the wave he meant copy all the features from Zoho's product
@doge59954 жыл бұрын
Well, not that you're wrong, but Zoho copied the office suite from Google, which in turn copied it from Microsoft's offline office. But in some sense, since he was a Zoho employee, him starting a very similar stack of products and even pulling some of Zoho's employees is a direct violation of non-compete clause, if Zoho had one. It would be interesting to know if he and Zoho's founder are on good terms :D
