I trained as an aircraft engineer to work on these.They had a wartime rapid start proceedure which could have all four engines running and the aircraft taxiing for take off in less than 2 minutes

At RAF Waddington they always worked on the principle if the ground crew couldn't get it started "Bring in a Scouser!"

Nicest video of the Vulcan Bomber that I’ve seen so far.

During the height of the cold war there wasn't anywhere near all the fannying around. It was "get them airborne ' . Such an important plane all thanks to Roy Chadwick. 👍

The Vulcan is my favourite aircraft. I used to stand at the bottom of the garden and watch the display at the local aerodrome. Memories......

XH558 is so special. Not just the last Vulcan but the last of the V-bomber's!

As a kid I used to watch these from the beach in Episkopi, Cyprus doing their practice bombing runs on a floating target out at sea in the 70’s. Happy days.

Actually my best memory as a child is the vulcan, watching that display can only be truly felt when your there, amazing ❤️

That took me back to when I was 17 years old and working on the Line Squadron at RAF Waddington. Although rapid start was more impressive!

Don’t know when it was last carried out at Wellesbourne but. On a couple of occasions I have seen them drag their Vulcan out. Plug in a ground unit. Start up all four engines & work the control surfaces inc. air brakes. Not visited since 2019 but at that time they kept it in good nick using mostly ex RAF personal & ATC volunteers.

They always ask if XH558 will ever fly again... well if someone just buys her she will. She'd make a great corporate jet. Can you imagine the look on some 22 year old yank ATC's face when she requested clearance to land at JFK? :D

Apparently XH557 landed at Montreal Dorval Airport one time on a medical evacuation flight from Goose Bay of all things....

The most iconic aircraft in the world, get it back flying
@babuzzard6470 Жыл бұрын
Won’t happen, the reason it was grounded in the first place I believe was because of a lack of people still with the skills to service it and make the parts, basically a dying art.

Must be over an acre of wing. Fan-bloody-tastic airplane! No howl on throttle up, probably need to be recording forward of the aircraft.
@Streaky1000015 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, the howl only occurs above 91% N1 (fan speed) so if they were taking off at lower thrusts, which I'd think is perfectly feasible here, they aren't carrying a weapons load and probably have fairly low fuel, so they're light, and fairford runway (as another commenter suggested this was) isn't exactly a tiny runway. However, yes, I think the howl is definitely more pronounced head on, I'dve thought they'd get it at that angle though....

When it comes to strategic bombers, the Vulcan is in the all-time top three along with the B-17 and B-52. Thi sis one aircraft I wish was still in active service. She puts the fear of God into the enemy; it is one thing to be carpet bombed by a B-52, but to be carpet bombed along with the Vulcan howl... oh yea!

It makes one wonder if they ever had to go for real ,aircrew were told not come back to the UK there will be nothing to come back for,thank God it never happened,after all the furore about them that is what they were built to do.
