How to start a Yardman MTD Tractor

I found this video very helpful. I just bought a Yard Machine 742 RL. The first riding lawn mower I have ever owned. The double blades mowed the yard really nicely. Very good look and I had mower deck on number 3. I got a good deal paid 250 dollars and everything works. I am going to balance and sharpen the blades, change the oil and filter. I could not be happier. This Navy Veteran is blessed with this mower.

My YM ran fine last week. Now it cranks and won't fire. Cranks til the battery died. Charged the battery and repeat. Mine doesn't have a pedal on the left side. Gas pedal and brake both are on the right side. Left side has the pto handle.

Any tips on how to get the choke to push back in? Mine won't go back in for some reason.

Most likely the cable is rusted. You could try a little penetrating oil in where the choke handle is and then if you have any cable to the carburetor that you can spray,. If that doesn’t work, the choke cable will need to be replaced.

If you ran the engine low on oil and it either seized or blew up then yes low oil could possible keep your engine from starting. You would need to diagnose if the engine is seized or blown up. If it it seized the engine will not spin by hand. If the engine is blown up, most of the time the engine will spin very freely. No compression.
