How to start any generator using a Cummins Powerstart 500 Controller

You can find the Cummins PowerStart controller on generators ranging from 10 KVA to 125 KVA or 10 KW to 100 KW.
In this example I'm starting a 35 KVA Cummins Diesel Generator.
My 15 KVA Cummins has the same controller.

Hi, better to contact Cummins for this. You can't program the controller without their software.

You can use some sort of a trickle charger to keep the battery maintained. I personally don't use any battery charger. The original 100 AH battery was replaced after 3 years and now I'm using a 150 AH battery. Expecting it to last around 5 years. The generator is 'exercised' once a month for around 30 mins.

@@vijayvj88 not sure what the issue is there. Unless there is a cool down timer preset in the controller or something like that. If the ground signal is removed and no delay has been set in the PS500, the engine should shut down immediately.

@@vijayvj88 a battery charger is not mandatory. but make sure auto sleep mode is enabled on your controller. Mine goes to sleep after 5 mins. Otherwise the battery drain is much higher is the controller remains on. You will need to call Cummins to set all this up in the controller.

The PS0500 I have, has the following pins with cables; From left to right, pin6 and 2 , none . Pin1,3,4 and 5 have cables. Which one of these are for remote start?

Hi, just look at the thumbnail of the video. On the bottom left you can see a set of 5 wires. 4 black and the on the right is yellow. That is the one for the auto start. If that pin sense ground while the controller is in auto mode the generator will start. The moment it loses the ground sensing it will stop.

Hi, the generator cannot be "programmed" to 60 Hz. The engine RPM has to be increased to 1800 in order to get 60 Hz.
