Loved the video. I will recommend it to the next person that says they are thinking about trying backpacklng. I think you forgot one more type of hiker. Most of the time. I hike in somewhere around 10 miles. Never more than 15 and then camp for 3 or 4 days. Then I hike out. I'm 62 ears old and hiked a bit in my teens and twenties. I used the thought of going backpacking again to set goals that helped me lose 270 pounds. Without surgery. I worked out hard. Eat good food. Drank a lot of water. I have been backpacking for 2 years now and loving it. The only bad thing is that i did have a heart attack and even though I am very healthy for my age. My heart attack and hip replacements and knee surgery have taken a toll. It also does not help that I live in Utah. ALL my trails have ELEVATION. I hike slow when going up, but I am usually alone so I hike my own hike. Anyway, enough rambling. Keep up the great work. The checklist is great.

I have a REI flash 55 - I like it. It has some configurability. For example the brain (top pouch) and side pockets can be removed. So you can make it a little lighter if you don't need those features. Also, I like the side pouches. It has 2 on each side - one standard pouch, and one angled a little for quick access to water bottles.

I’ve been using Gaia GPS for the past year since watching your channel. I like it, but I find the organization of folders and routes and tracks etc isn’t the greatest. I was wondering if you’d do a video on how you keep your Gaia organized for both tracking prior history and planning new trips. It’d be nice to see what your desktop version looks like

Same as poop cat holes, away from tent & away from drinking water source. Good luck filtering soapy water to drink 😝 a grayl water purifier might work? But they're heavy & bulky

i just went and had a look at the new Flash 55. I like most of the changes EXCEPT they screwed up that great strech pocket.!!! call them and tell them to put it back. Its now just a pocket. I need that big stretchy pocket to dry stuff and such. It stopped me from getting it.

Hey Justin, random question for you, what do you think about the Trekology aluft 2.0 vs Trekology aluft 2.0 PRO? Not sure if the pro is worth the extra 70 grams but it does at least look super comfy.

Not sure about the Xmid specifically but I always prefer a 2 man tent for backpacking. Usually the cost and weight isn't much higher for a good amount of space gained. Just depends what you value more, extra space vs saving a few ounces and money.

Not Pro but check the Geordie Wildcamper channel for Xmid

I have the x-mid 1p, (not the pro). The design is awesome. It’s simple to set up once you get the hang of squaring it up first. The huge vestibules are fantastic. The shape is very weather resistant. I have the original design that has 4” narrower inner. It’s fine, but the slightly wider inner they have now would be an improvement. The 1p feels bigger than it is because of the vestibules. If your question is should you get the 1p or 2p, the pro versions only weigh 1.5 oz different. If you can afford the extra cost of the 2p, no one ever set up their tent and said, “I wish I had less room”. Although the 2p does have a quite larger footprint, so where you need it to fit could come into play. 2p pro is in stock, 1p pro ships in April if that matters to you.

@@jonsanford2515 Thanks, I think the only thing stopping me getting the 2p is that footprint size. it is huge and i never find spots that big. so, what to do , what to do?

You know, here in Romania we have lots of problems with Brown Bears as they are protected and can't be shot, they multiplied and are hungry, what advice do you have for camping in a forest with bears, also, they don't hibernate as the winter is soft... ?

Bring bear spray and make sure to pack food in a smell proof bag and dont leave food laying around camp because the bears will smell it and be attracted
