If this ain't work for you, I got you. I could not dread my hair until today. You gotta twist and rip dreads (Idk if you have to, that's what I did) then you stick the crochet hook slanted pointing towards the tip, so if your dread was a tube you're just sticking it through the part closest to your scalp (depends how short hair is) and you basically just repeatedly pull and push like he shows you at 2:10 so you're pulling the tip into the dread, this forms the tip and then you just get the crochet hook closer to your scalp as you go on. DOING THIS WHILE TWISTING THE DREAD IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT ADDS SUPPORT FOR YOUR DREAD AND MAKES IT WAY STRONGER. You're basically doing 3:22 but for the whole dread AND DO NOT FOLD THE TIP!!!! That's how I did mine and they turned out like the guys in the video but mine lay down.

I grew my hair for a year and a half,they r wavy not really curly,typical Indian u can say. I got my dread locks done myself,i used back combing and twist and rip techniques. My family n people around were not that annoyed with me not cutting my hair for 1.5 yrs,but as soon as i got dreadlocks....they asked me if im ok,if im going mental or smthng,or doin drugs,etc. Dat was really not cool cuz yes back then (6yrs ago),dreadlocks were not that much known here in India,yes we do have free form dreads on naga sadhus(monks) since ancient times but thats in one part of da country. After 2 months i was tired of the maintenance and not really seeing any progress(ofcourse budding starts at 3-5 months) i got dem cut. Im happy i tried dreadlocks once in my life,and really appreciate people having them,more appreciation and respect for people who dont have curly hair or from different part of the world where dreadlocks arent the norm.

Believe me in Mexico they don’t really do this, but in Puerto Rico and Cuba this is normal as most of us have naturally thicker hair usually wavy, curly or Afros; it’s awesome , it’s normal in Puerto Rico and Cuba. So, I think it’s cool for the info thanks man. Way I see it most of these guys just love these hairstyles it shouldn’t be seen as something offensive, unless it’s because they were making fun of it, that’s different. This is cool though it just means that we can be cool of other cultures ain’t nothing wrong with that. Many of my cousins naturally have Afros, it’s awesome. Don’t forget Puerto Rican’s and cubans have African blood in us. For example, even though I have 20% Spanish blood(Spain), the two majorities are Native American and African. My African blood is 38%, and Native American or Amerindian Is 48%. I appreciate my African blood though. NOT hate it, I wish I could have an Afro but I got more of the wavy hair.
