@@cindygutierrez5401 How old is he? You may be too late for protection training. German Shepherds are very smart, but also stubborn. How long do you typically work on the bit grip or how long does it usually take for the pup to get the firm bite before you move on?
@rythm69832 жыл бұрын
The bite grip depends on the breed and age of the dog, as a puppy they're still getting the hang of it. It may be due to you not making it interesting enough for the dog to want to engage, hints not very good grip bites, and lack of interest (if there is any). If thats the problem try a different toy, or make the activity seem fun. It shouldn't take long for a 'good bite' to come in. Puppies have strong (and sharp) yet weak teeth, so till theyre more mature i guess you wont exactly get a great bite out of them lol. Honestly depends on the breed and if they enjoy working or not. A year late but thought id still comment incase anyone else needs an answer.🤷♂️
@Skaggs6662 жыл бұрын
You do this type of exercise until the puppy is consistent. It could take a few days to a few weeks. But once they are getting strong consistent bites, it’s time to move on.

@larryhornjr.12732 жыл бұрын
For someone that keeps harping on "don't go in on her", you go in on her quite a bit. Nice pivot though, after realizing the contridiction, with the "she's confident, so we can go in on her. However, nothing bad should happen here" lesson. Never missed a beat, more importantly fooled the rest of us that "don't know the process". Bravo. What I DO know is, you shouldn't have to teach a dog, especially that one, "how to bite". If there's one thing a dog knows how to do, and early on at that, is bite. The stupidest, uneducated dogs of any breed will rip your face off, and not think twice about it when put in that situation. It's what they do. Also, if the dog wants it bad enough, she won't let go of a brick. Your only task at this stage is to encourage that enthusiasm, channel the natural instinct to bite toward only what you tell her to bite, and make her believe she can't live without it. Win-win for both. No chance of broken or ripped out teeth, and you get to move on, or "skip" if you will, onto release command training.
