PF is like box of candy.... But going on my own, with no strings attached, is preffered for me. You get parties that disbands before even first pull("i'm main tank, no i'm main tank", tank leaves), you got parties that stays for hours and make good progress. You can easier, even if not always, find group that is where you want to be in the fight, rather than being stuck with someone who isnt comfortable with early mechanics and feels like you are wasting time. You can also downgrade and practice difficult mechanic you might still have issues with. It has plenty of downsides, as you can expect with PUG. As mentioned, players leaving after two wipes sending you back to 'loby', players not respecting comments and joining group thats more advanced than they are, players not doing their homework, players coming with strategy that might work, but its not generally accepted strategy that everyone else knows, etc etc. It can be mess, it can be ugly, but you can get it done, if you are patient enough. It is objectivelly more difficult than static, as everyone have to make own calls and be capable of making choices for themself. But harder the road..

Raiding is some of my fav content in this game. My biggest issue with it is definitely people not realizing that an EX or Savage isnt just 'the same thing but faster'. That being said, the feeling of accomplishment from clearing that type of content is some of my biggest reasons for coming back time and time again.

From what I’ve seen, generally a static will provide steady prog, even if slow. You can always replace the people that are holding others back or have bad attitudes. However if scheduling conflicts happen then then it can cause serious problems. PF is the Wild West and you never know what you’ll get. It can great or horrible. Like joining 7 different P6 wb2 DSR parties in one day and only 1 of them even makes it to P6.

May I add one thing if you do another video like this, the important of UI for raiding, the game default can be configured more then aptly for people to optimise your UI to monitor CDs better, better placement of information within your vision. UI optimisation is extremely important for raiding prep and practice, most serious raiders do infact change their UI layout heavily.

Thank you for your video and advice to new raiders and i wanna add something on the list, new expansion prep and new tier preps are kinda different on each other, before savage release there will be 2 weeks timeline seperate from normal raid into savage on that 2 weeks timeline you need to grind tomestone and normal raid relic which converting into crafted gear equivalent item if you don't have much gil, and if you have lots of spare gil you can buy crafted hq gear on savage releases and pentameld them until you get actual tier bis, because pentameld crafted > unaugmented tome gear
@leth9375

Tome gear is typically equal or better than pentamelded but we’ll see what happens when the new stuff all comes out! Prices luckily weren’t too bad on my server week one of every tier in EW, but yeah it can get expensive fast
@DantoriusD
@DantoriusD 7 ай бұрын
@@leth9375 its not THAT optimistic. With Endwalker they started to delay Every Savage Release after a Patch. So you always had1 Week time to prep which drastically reduces the Prices for Crafted Gear compared to other Tiers with Savage Release at the same Time as the Patch drops. Also you have 2 Weeks of Tomefarming. 1 Week for the Delay and if youre fast you could also do Hunttrains Before you go raid depending on your Timezone. We did that the Last Expansion. And 900 Tomestones is usually a Chest or Leg Piece which is a significant upgrade compared to Pentamelded HQ Craft.
@cyphi474
@cyphi474 7 ай бұрын
"if you can afford it" Gear and consumables arent that cheap when content comes out like they are now. But you can cut down prices significantly, if you have crafts and/or gatherers. Downside is, they need up to date gear/consumables too, so it takes quite alot of prep work.
@cyphi474
@cyphi474 7 ай бұрын
Forgot. And then you need materias, that arent cheap either. Pentamelding is not absolutelly necessary(filling slots is minimum), but it makes big difference when that extra few percent is all it takes for the clear.

Ive played off and on since stormblood. Always wanted to try ex or higher content but can never being myself to commit. I played wow pretty much fulltime from 2004 until legion. I got some pretty serious PTSD from wow raiding and i think that what keeps me from commiting. Usually end up bailing from the game adter doing msq and daily DF, relics, anything i can do solo. I get burnt out because im very introverted (which in itself is another issue). I tried at the beginning of shb and ew but couldnt do it. Ill probably give it another go in DT. Thank you for this video, hopefully it will convince me to give it a go in DT haha
@OldManInternet
@OldManInternet 7 ай бұрын
I have a pretty similar story, including the WoW part and being introverted. I ended up really enjoying the Zodiark fight, and ended up clearing the EX about 120 times. And I ended up with a static to try the raid because of it. We got to P3S before a weird dispute that had nothing to do with the raid group (market related) caused it to implode. Tried P5S in PF next tier, and it was mostly a disaster. So I decided to put off serious raiding again until DT. Hope you end up falling in with a group! These games are definitely more fun with people to do stuff with, even if finding the right people ends up being the hardest part of MMOs

Imho I would always prefer pf over a static, freedom coupled with somewhat reasonable efficiency. But that is just me. Both would be also an option, but finding a solid longterm static ain't easy (both socially and skill level)

Im the opposite. P'fing can be so bad unless youre talking about early weeks after the raid came out. Pfing late in the tier is just terrible. Pfing in dsr right now is full of trapper who lies on their prog.
@Lyu-Phy
@Lyu-Phy 7 ай бұрын
@@kahome I'll give you that one, pf is by far the best when the content is relatively new. But as someone who also pfed a few tiers very late, I'd say it's still fine. Not as good as I would like to, but better than I thought. One downside being late tho is for some fights you wait very long in pf to fill up, so that can be quite the bummer.

Is it unrealistic for a group to expect a person to memorize the mechanics of a fight after just watching a video once, because some groups expect that after just one viewing. Unless you have a photographic memory, there's no way
@99_Vit
@99_Vit 7 ай бұрын
I’d say that’s pretty unrealistic, yeah. Unless you’re playing at a really high level in a hardcore group. Most people need to see the mechanics in real time and die to them a few times to learn. I usually try to study and remember as much as possible up front and then reference a video guide or diagrams of mechanics as we go

Thats why you prog after watching the video, to experience the mechanics and how to deal with them. Then, if you need to watch it again, you do so. Rinse and repeat until you’re comfortable with all the mechanics
@RamundHallgrimsson
@RamundHallgrimsson 7 ай бұрын
@@brandondragon You (and by you I mean whoever's reading this and shares the same mindset) do not need to memorize EVERY step in a guide, but you should have at least an inkling of what the mechanics are and what you should be doing. If you have lives, dogs, kids, jobs or whatever and you don't want or are able to watch a 10min video twice or so before jumping into an on-tier Extreme/Savage (and if you don't have time for that you sure as hell don't have time to blind prog), then Extreme/Savage is not for you and please do not grief random people's parties by joining them. Stick to normal mode stuff, or join a static with a similar casual mentality. A raid group is not about just you, it's about all of the players, and if YOU have personal circumstances that don't allow you to do your research or to play your job competently, you don't have the right to grief 7 other people and should be kicked from every party. Also, "fun" is not opposed to "studying the fight/being able to play to a high degree of mastery". For some people the fun is clearing the fight in a reasonably quick time and not being dead weight/the weak link of their team.
@GH3killer
@GH3killer 7 ай бұрын
@@brandondragon i'm sorry but if this is you then you shouldn't even be here/doing the savage to begin with. This mindset makes it impossible for you to learn anything and you'll most likely end up griefing groups you join with this lame excuse.

Most of the video is good advice but I hardly disagree on promoting the usage of tools like ACT for first timers. Let me explain. People need to understand that handling mechanics can be pretty rough and difficult for first timers. FF14 end-game content isn't the kind of content where you can just stand there doing damage and expect the rest of the group to do everything for you because you're too worried about maximizing your damage and uptime. Most of the time, even as a newcomer, you have to accept that you will be expected to handle responsabilities during encounters because thats how the hard content on this game is designed: everyone has to do stuff. Because of this, tools like ACT end up being more of a detriment than a help for newcomers because half of their brain will be worried about their damage/uptime when in reality they need to be fully focused on learning, understanding and properly handling the mechanics. Damage and uptime on these stages is the least of your concerns, as long as you do a proper opener and your 2-min rotation aligns properly with the rest of the group, you're already doing a good job on that department, but the heavy lifting is done by proper handling of mechanics. Because of this, I don't recommend newcomers to use ACT because it won't help them, instead if will be more of a distraction and an unnecesary source of stress/pressure on an instance where most of their focus should be put into learning and proper handling of the mechanics of the encounter they're learning and expecting to clear. Also I think it's very important to set proper expectations: even regarding Extremes/Savages, this can prove a challenge for newcomers who are used to do daily roulette stuff and the hardest content they've done is Normal/Alliance raids. Extremes/Savages are already a HUGE leap on difficulty compared to the base/normal difficulty that newcomers see on their daily roulettes. What I mean with "set proper expectations" is that you, as a newcomer, should expect tons and tons of mistakes on your behalf and that fights will look super daunting and chaotic at the beggning, so don't go into a group and expect that because you watched a video and you do a decent opener and rotation, you'll do a clear after 2-3 tries, thats never going to happen unless you're expecting some sort of a carry. Probably the most likely scenario is that you'll wipe several times, probably the entire 60min timer, on the first 3-4 basic set of mechanics, and some of those wipes will be caused directly by a mistake made by you. This scenario is pretty normal and you have to go in there expecting tons and tons and tons of wipes, sometimes because of your fault, sometimes another person made a mistake, sometimes the party leader made a wrong call, but failure is the thing that you should expect. Despite this, my advice is that you persevere, go with the mindset that you're going to tackle the kind of content that will ask you to be on your 100% which includes your rotation, your situational awareness, your memory, etc, so though your first experiences might feel unrewarding and dissapointing, keep persevering and never forget this is a game, the most important thing is to have fun. Another thing is that you can totally raid in other DCs if you find an FC that organize learning runs, basically a learning static for newcomers. I personally had a bad experience trying my hand on Aether PF because you see a lot of groups that are advertised as "learning runs" or "newcomers welcome" but the leader/teacher quickly loses their patience/temper after 3-4 wipes and my advice is that, if you get into one of those groups where the party leader starts insulting or has some kind of weird behaviour towards people making mistakes, always assume thats not the kind of place you should be in and never play with that person again. There is a lot of people, both in FCs or in the PF that are super patient and provide a safe environment for newcomers to learn where they're encouraged and be given proper lifting of spirits when they start to feel bad about their mistakes. But the most important advice when learning, as someone who taught me and encouraged me into trying hard content, is that "a group where people keep secrets to themselves are groups that are doomed to fail", what I mean is that, most of the time, when people make mistakes, due to past experiences, they feel like they should hide their mistake and try to avoid any negative attention towards themselves, either to avoid the shame of being the one who made the mistake or whatever, the point is that behaviour will never ever lead you to proper learning and succeeding in the long run. Always be open about anything you don't understand, ask questions, prove to yourself you're serious about wanting to learn and improve.

Mentioning that you can save money on gear by farming the Normal Raid tier is slightly misleading, especially if you're serious about raiding. In reality, only one or two pieces are strictly better than their crafted counterpart. It's a great way to get passable gear for alt-jobs, but not really for serious prog.
@99_Vit
@99_Vit 7 ай бұрын
I mean we have a 15% echo buff on all the savage raids currently. You could go into the first two fights in full dungeon gear and be fine. If you're talking about on release, then it would likely take weeks to farm a full set of normal raid gear. You'd have some tome gear as well by then. Would be perfectly fine for the first fight or two at least. Not what I would do or recommend, but it could work in a casual setting
