I have been using this method for years now and it works well. Also if you want to add more calcium to depleted soils, save the tops of the egg shells, dry them out and using a mortar and pestle grind them up into a powder. Add this powder to depleted soils to help future plants grow.

thanks for this video reminder. My dad used to do this and I forgot all about it. will defiantly be using this method for my garden this year. It was almost like my dad was talking to me from heaven reminding me of something important I forgot.

ABSOLUTE GENIUS! I'm impressed. I just bought two Roosters and 10 hens a few months ago. I'm getting 3 to 6 eggs a day. They're free range, so I know I'm not finding them all......your video on preserving eggs is a must see video also. Great Work. Simple. Practicable. Thank You.

Love this clever (Easter!) idea, Kris. Good, eco-friendly calcium for the soil. I compost eggshells, but have to bury them deeply to keep the squirrels and racoons from digging them up. I could only do this if I grew the veggies indoors seed to harvest. I use pencil on egg shells, way fewer chemicals. Wait! chives outdoors keep the critters away outdoors. Hot peppers, too. You sure did your homework!

Cannot begin to tell you ho much i appreciate your DIY videos, from the gardening to how you can preserve the food you grow. Thank you for your hard work in providing all this free info. As much a i like gear reviews i think the info on how to get things done is the most important

Very good idea! In Germany we have the Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher which comes in handy for opening the eggs with a perfect round cut.

Wow. I didn’t know these existed. It’s called an Egg Topper in the U.K. which is a shorter and yet less interesting name. Just bought one. Thanks for the tip!

You can always use Ziploc gallon bags or 2 gallon bags for little hot house environment.

I’ve done this for a long time! Works great! However, I use my egg cartons as mini green houses. I cut out a large rectangle in the lid and then cover that with cellophane, (taping it in place). I put seed starter in the shells, moisten them and then close the carton up. This aides in trapping in heat so the seeds germinate faster. Great video! 😊

I have been using my eggs shells to protect my plants from slugs & snails a carpet of crushed jagged (not pulverized) egg shells, also gives a boost to plants that might need extra calcium. I do have egg shells for starting plants too.

This cartboard is also a great tool to use while plantong carrots. Make small holes in bottom and put soil inside. Plant seeds and put in ground. The cartboard helps to keep water and its great for worms that improve soil quality.

Using eggshells can inhibit the root growth, and the tiny hairlike roots are not strong enough to poke thru the eggshell if they need more space. If you have ever started seeds in those plastic cellpacks, you will know what I mean. Roots will poke right through the 1/2" hole at the bottom of the cellpack and grow right into the plastic tray holding them. Even if a seedling with stunted roots survives, it will not produce as well as a plant with a fully-formed root system. A better use of eggshells is to make eggshell "tea" and use it as a fertilizer.

What are your thoughts on all the AI created prepper channels popping up all over YT? I would really like to know. You know the ones... they drop a new video daily and keep repeating the same talking points...they have 12-50k followers and NO COMMENTS.... Also, I still don't want to attend your pizza party.

@@CityPrepping Actually, they are doing the same AAI stuff with politics, border, and a couple other topics. The best question is how do we stop them? They are taking away traffic from real creators (like you and JR and Alaska) and I'm not cool with that.
