Nice video but 1 important point to start your own production business is to come from a wealthy background to have the financial cushion to leave a full-time Monday to Friday bill paying job, and to jump head first into freelance work you need the bills to be payed for a year to get those small jobs in and to have somthing to show to other clients. And you will need to have a bought camera for those last minute jobs over a holiday weekend when the rental companies are closed... And it will have to be a half decent camera and lights and a beefy editing machine and a selection of lenses so that's about $5000. So people from poorer backgrounds will have to maybe take out a big bank loan to buy gear and cover the bills for a year. So a financial cushion is a very important step in the process.

Great informative video Brandon, thank you so much! Been eyeballing at starting my own business for a while now, but never dared to take that leap of faith.. On the side; i noticed in the description you mentioned the gear in your bag; the Sony A7 iii and Canon 1Dx mk2. But on almost all video’s lately I noticed you use the Canon R5c or a RED. What’s your to-go camera right now?

So interesting gear, it was shown to me right on time before establishing my commercial media & films business. Looking into starting off with a Sony 6400 and a drone (definitely other important accessories, light, mic's, gimbal etc) but the biggest decisions are the camera and drone. Then after building up my lens inventory for wide angle, zoom, prime and macro lens. I will most likely step up for a A7SII or A7RII (still thinking if I need the 120 frames video or not, because the goal of my business is interviews, short-films 5 minutes, videography, small wedding gigs). I can't imagine God restored this passion back into me, God is so good to those who truly love HIM. I just can't say anything without thanking Jesus and honoring HIM first above all else. Well, I am really tight on deciding which drone to get, I am not looking to spend above $1,000 for it, hope's it shoots 2k 60fps or 1080 120fps, looking to spend as low as I could because it would only be used for b-roll and short clips to expand the documentary or commercial clip. Most for businesses to advertise on social media, because this is big in my country right now. But for big production media, I will hire a team and direct it due to large investments required to buy the resources. Thanks in advance and God bless you,

Great video, Brandon. Bravo! Me, Im struggling to find a niche on my career. I like to do many types of projects but I'm having a bad time saying NO to almost everything to say YES to one or two niches... How do you go about this subject? thank you
@TrentErwin2 жыл бұрын
Hey Eduardo, it's okay to be more of a generalist for a while before you niche down. I did a lot of types of projects - corporate, weddings, nonprofit, product, event - and then I found myself having a lot of luck in the corporate space. So I do a lot of corporate work now but I still do everything else except for weddings. Don't stress about it. Your niche will kinda find you because you'll excel in that area and you'll enjoy that work, so naturally you'll do more of it.
