In the State of Texas, it cost 300 dollars to register your business not 150 dollars. And, it's not a simple process here. You have to read through 12 steps of pretty complicated material and hopefully you figure it out. Plus, you don't just make money that easy in any business. You have overhead costs...such as getting the furniture. Who will you be working with to get this furniture? Who will be delivering this furniture? What is the time line for everything being delivered and making sure it can be delivered quickly and reliably. And, are you even good a decorating? Will someone like your taste? And, what do you mean...logos and color pallets...wow...it is not easy and it costs money to do this...it's not just a check.
@RevisionsMentor4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. As we indicated in the video, each state is different and the rules vary. And you are right, this is a lot to figure out. Sourcing your furniture, sorting out delivery and timelines as well as your decorating skills are all very important factors that fall into play when you are starting a staging business. We are just giving the first three steps that are required of someone to start their business. Thanks for your comment!

@RevisionsMentor4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rian! Corporations form by filing articles of incorporation with the Secretary of State in your state. An LLC is a different kind of business entity (we are an LLC) with a structure that's usually less complex than that of a corporation. I'm most confused as to what address to use to file with the state, I don't have a physical business space (at least not yet), and I dont want to use my home address for privacy concerns, but I read you cant use a PO Box. SO I'm stuck as to how to move forward with that aspect. I've already chosen my company name, bought the domain, direct email, created all social media accts for it. I'm good on all that. Hi ladies! I’ve looked into the style guide and it seems you have to have photoshop or photoshop elements to edit the templates that you purchase. The photoshop is pricey, I was wondering if you found a way around this? I know there’s a free trial but you of course can’t go back and use your templates down the road with the trial. Thanks! Lauren

Hey Lauren! When we bought our style guide, we chose one that had colors and fonts we liked them the creator on Etsy customized it for us. We didn’t have to use photoshop at all. Shoot me and email and I’ll send you a link to the company we used. Erin@revisionsofwilmington.com

Great video I love all the simple tips you all provide. I am looking to join this industry and of course I started on google to search information. Question, do you have to have a degree or certification in interior design ? I see a lot of home staging certifications out there and was wondering if that’s something you should get before becoming a home stager or building your company?
@RevisionsMentor4 жыл бұрын
Hello Nita! A degree or certification for interior design is not required for home staging. Its safe to say that the more well-versed we are in home staging and design concepts, the easier the job may be, and I always support continued education and learning opportunities. I think that a home stager's portfolio is the strongest case a stager can make for quality of work and design aesthetic. Pair that with a bunch of solid reviews from happy customers and you will create a strong presence for yourself in your real estate community. This will take time but it's worth it. All the best to you! Check out more of our videos and feel free to ask more questions! :) Jen

Great video! What sort of background in design do you ladies have? Were you self taught, read alot, maybe take some classes?
@RevisionsMentor4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Briana! Our professional backgrounds are in health care and education; staging and design is a second career for both of us. :) We are largely self-taught, having done tons of research and planning and studying up front. There are lots of online resources, including our upcoming webinar trainings! Stay tuned! What other questions can we answer for you? We would love to feature your questions on our "question of the week" video! Sincerely, Jenny

@@RevisionsMentor What made you all want to get into the home staging business? Im thinking about starting my own business but fear that love of home decor and homes isn't the right reason to go down this path. I actually have my real estate license but haven't been super successful in getting clients. I fear I could run into the same issue with this.
@RevisionsMentor4 жыл бұрын
@@BrezieBree1 Hey Briana! We started this business after I did some staging projects for my own homes and they sold in record time. Our realtor made several comments about my staging skills and asked if we could help her with some listings. Things took off from there. Jenny and I partnered up after we spent some time together working on a small design project and realized how well we work together. Things took off from there. I think if you work your real estate connections and start acquiring really great furnishings (one room at a time) or incorporate staging into the services you provide to begin with, you'll start gaining traction. Also, watch some of our videos about using social media and networking to give you some ideas. I hope this helps! --Erin

I'm not sure forming corporate entities is the first step. It only protects your personal assets when your business partner messes up and gets sued. You'll be personally signing for any loans = personally liable and you are always responsible for your own negligence and will be sued personally along with your business. First thing is to actually see if you can get business and make money and insure yourself once you are exposed to liability. You can incorporate if you have a partner. Getting an EIN is just for tax purposes and business accounts which you don't really need if it's just you but maybe you want if you have a partner. I just see people do all these steps instead of getting out there and doing the the thing to see if it has promise. Just tips.

Loved your video! I’m in the process of trying to start my own home staging business but I’m stuck on one very essential part. Could you give some insight on what you guys charge for your services? Creating an appropriate pricing menu is the toughest part for me as I have no background in this particularly and what to make sure I am not over or under charging
@RevisionsMentor4 жыл бұрын
That's awesome Jordan! Charges for staging vary greatly depending on where you live and what is available in your community. We recommend that you start by pricing out other stagers in your local market....you will likely find that they have comparable rates to one another, which will give you a good idea of how to start setting your pricing!
