The point about not telling family is really good. The moment my family found out I wanted to start a business they started in on me about how it would never work, and putting my work down. I got comments about how my cousins were better artists and whatnot. People came out of the woodwork to take a dump on my idea. Funny thing is when my cousin in question found out what was said to me, he pulled me aside and reminded me of a few things. First, don’t trust the opinions of people who couldn’t draw their way out of a paper bag to save their lives about art. Second, if they have never run business, they have no idea wtf they’re on about. Third, how someone else’s endeavor went in a different decade and context is not an indicator of how it will go for you. Fourth, he is a great artist because he studied, as talent will only get you so far and the rest is skill. Skill can be learned. It gave me the confidence to be able to push forward. And I am so glad I did.

BIGGEST TIP: Make a Business account for UPS it is free to do AND you can order FREE SHIPPING SUPPLIES!! It has been a game-changer!! I have enough free shipping labels for my thermal printer to last practically a lifetime lol They also have boxes, bubble mailers, etc. Of course, it won't have any brand identity but it is fantastic starting out while you work your way up to customizing your packaging behind the scenes.

Before checking social media handle, you need to check with your state and nationally to see if your business name is taken and register it. It may not be taken on social media, but if someone has legal claimed it, you can't use it.

That is not entirely true but you do need to check the business name. If the name is already in use there are caveats to how you can use it in your state and/or nationally. If the name is trademarked, publicly traded or a nationally or internationally know name you cannot use its Legal business name or its DBA especially if you're in the same market. There is only one Panda Express but there are a lot of Asian Palaces. I found this out when I wanted to name my business Brooklyn Charm

@ I sell tinctures to health stores and online. My advice is don’t start a business for the sake of starting a business, because it’s not easy. Start a business because you found something you genuinely enjoy. That being said, it doesn’t hurt to TRY something, even if it isn’t a passion, just to develop some soft skills business wise. You’re young as heck, so take it slow and spend time trying to find what you’re truly passionate about. Remember, business is hard, so you really need to enjoy it. Enjoy even failing, because you learn. Being so young, here are the skills I recommend you pick up first: - people skills, learn to communicate well - sales skills, learn to convey value in a natural way - design skills, this will save you money, but don’t design everything. Some things are best left to pros - self confidence. Try leave imposter syndrome at the door, be confidence in yourself and your product. Do what you need to do and believe in yourself and the process. That’s just some quick tips and advice, hope it helps.

Definitely don't let naysayers crush your dreams but I would run certain decisions by a trusted person such as an accountant, attorney or financial planner or even relative or friend whose decisions you trust.

I do agree that maybe an account/financial planner/attorney can help with certain aspects but a trusted friend/ relative who isn’t a small business owner won’t know what they’re talking about. You don’t want to turn to someone for advice when they have no knowledge on the subject or what it takes to start a business. Just my personal advice! ❤️

@@noelicreates absolutely. Only those with some measure of experience, success and/or expertise. Cousin Junior who "just knows things" would not be my confidant. Lol. Something I realized with professionals is if they have big ads in tue yellow pages, on TV or on billboards, I pass. If they have to advertise, that may be a sign they don't have enough business from word of mouth recommendations and (to me) that's at least a yellow flag.

I definitely understand where you are coming from! I've worked so many physical labor jobs that ran me into the ground physically and mentally. My last job made me have to go back to therapy and I was severely injured at it as well to the point where I'm still extremely limited even years later. Long story short I was made to move for various reasons and haven't been able to transition to a less strenuous physical job after moving. So I've been trying to start my own business. It will allow me to go at my own pace, and eventually be able to provide for myself again. I wish you all the good fortune with your own endeavors. And give you a giant interweb hug =^_^=💙

Thanks Noeli, I'm just starting off my own small business and I tend to overthink a lot and procrastinate, but one day, I just took the plunge and started and it was the happiest day of my life. Now I just have to keep it going. One of my biggest learning curve is how to price everything. I don't trust social media very much. I once had a Facebook page and I started receiving death threats. I reached out to Facebook, but they did nothing, so I deleted my account and I don't miss it one bit, so right now I'm doing business by word of mouth, but I will need to create a website soon. I also purchased a lot of things from Amazon and I am a diehard Cricut user. I have done research on where to get materials as affordable as I can.

I have already registered my online business but haven’t done anything to start my business. But watching these videos motivate me to keep going so I can officially open my business.✨ I’d say don’t rely on anyone when deciding if a product or design looks good. Research it all and have confidence in your product. Family and friends will be negative or be supportive but steer you away from what you’re passionate about selling. I recommend checking on how much the product you want to sell is making yearly, and see if you can find info on other companies selling the same thing and see how they are marketing, pricing, and how much they make off that product a yr. I do want to say, if your friends and family would negatively effect you running your own business it may be a good idea to re-evaluate those relationships and consider having a major heart to heart about how those people treat you and/or cutting those kinds of people out of your life. None of my friends or close family would EVER be negative about my work like you described and they wouldn't hesitate to help me with it on my terms only and respect that it's mine and not something they should interfere with? You got this!! There is nothing wrong with starting slow, even setting aside 30 minutes to work or research will help you get that much closer to accomplishing your goal. My favorite gym trainer on the program I use always talks about just doing things 30 minutes at a time. Or even just 5 minutes worth will be more than you would have done if you sat and did nothing at all. I always randomly think about that while I'm standing around and I'll randomly start exercising too. Like when my food is cooking in the microwave I will just randomly start doing squats. Or if I'm made to stand up for things I'll just do calf raises XD

And I forgot to tell you Noeli that the dad always said that she will failed .. and she cry 😢but I said to her .!well my baby you’re giving power to the negativity.. I’m here and I know as long I live I will see you with a great wonderful business because .. every salon she used to worked they telling her we want you back .. and that is because you do a great job .. I tell her .. she’s only 21 yrs old and she worked in many different jobs if you don’t mind ., Noeli with respect go and watch her videos of all the beautiful hair she had doned make she do and nails.. and she crochet her own clothes.. and I teach her all that to make sure that my daughter learned from positive person like you .. I shared your videos with all my daughter..
