Honestly the less often you retwist the better. I have gone up to two months in between retwists.

@@mikannam3129 they came out great. This was about 11 years ago. I grew them for 4 years before I cut them (for a girl) and now that I've been with that same girl for the past 10 I'm ready to bring them back.

@@PearlMinah I started growing my dreads again this past September. That's what they look like now in my thumbnail. I retwist my hair about every other week myself,(mostly because I'm bored) and I've been washing my hair roughly every three week. The ends have completely locked. When I hit about 6 months I'll slow the retwists to every other month.

My 10 year old step daughter lives with me and my husband we have custody. When she was with her mom her hair was extremely damaged and very short. Wanted to loc her hair but she was always against it. My husband told me to start it anyway so I'm definitely going to be doing this method because it's the easiest.

Honestly if she doesn’t want locs, don’t force her. Try other low maintenance hairstyles like box braids or faux locs even twist (just be sure not to leave them to mature into locs)
