I don't really like people listening to me playing the piano, or even near me when I'm playing. So how do I like, deal with that??
@DNAnielsama

Hi! I had that kind of feeling a couple of years ago. What I did to conquer that dislike was start playing the piano in a room where people had stuff to do. I just made sure that I was in a situation where nobody cared if someone was playing the piano(they were focusing on something, etc). Then, I moved up to playing the piano with a close friend listening to me. And then more; until I was able to play in front of a crowd with not much hesitation. Anyways, the point is to start small. Hope this helps!

Daniel Fernandez thank you so much for the tips and such! This is such a great method! Why didn’t I think of this?! 😜😆 Now that I know this thing, I think I can try this out, and it might just work! Thank you once again, and once more! Thank you! 😄😋

Jennifer Huela That's great if it helps :) Always try to work upwards. Make mistakes, and fail as early and as often as possible. That way you'll make lesser mistakes once you're up on stage(or playing in front of many people in general). Tell me how it went once you try it out :)

Whenever i feel like not practicing, I always listen to Liszt's 'Un Sospiro' or 'Liebestraum' (two of my most fave pieces) and think if i will not practice, i wont be able to play that in my life. And Im still a beginner, and just started practicing my first musical piece which is Petzold's Minuet in G Major 😃

Hi! This is an old video. I'm 15 and i used to watch you when i was 12 and i was really good at piano but now i've lost motivation. My friend told me to play a song and i just randomly played it and she fangirled and that just remembered me about the times i played music and made people happy so...yeah...i'm back at it again!!

I think social motivation really works, for example I notice that I'm way more motivated when I'm learning a piece for somebody rather than myself. The goal of how it'll make the person happy just pushes me to work hard. Self motivation is equally important & that's something I need some work with..

I so agree with the advice "compare to yourself in the past". My main reason for my youtube channel : I feel so powerful when I listen to an old video and see the progress accomplished! There is even someone who told me my progressions inspired him! This is so rewarding! I had a little thought when you spoke about "too big goals". I always do that! But it is not a motivation problem for now. I don't mind practicing a piece for 6-8 months, as long as there is progress and as long as my pieces are at different level of achievent (one at the beggining, one at the polishing phase, and some other in between). Long term goal : Chopin's etudes. :D

I think that the thing that really works too as a pianist is just hearing what other pianists have to say, and really realizing that we are all in the piano playing world together. Hearing what everyone has to say, and commenting on their channels is pretty awesome and motivating as well. Sometimes, that is how I start my day before getting on the piano. Although, I am playing every single day from morning to night. I think that the only time I don’t get on the channels is when I have to go off to work and play a gig. The only time I am not playing the keys is when I am eating or sleeping lol!!!!!! The rest of the time is at the piano. Also I have heard many pianists say when we talk about something even in my local area is they will tend to say. “Oh. I am not that great.” Lol!!!!!! I had a waitress who is a pianist last Friday night at a dinner gig when I was done tell me because I played the whole gig and gave her a flash drive with some music I did and she told me that she was super excited to recieve it. I told her “I would love to hear you play the piano some day when you have a minute.” She told me “Well, i will but i am not at all that great like you.” Have you ever come across fellow pianists who tell you “Well, I am not that great.” I don’t know how many times i have heard fellow pianists when talking to them and you ask them to play something for you they will tell you “Well, I sure will but I am not that great at it.” Lol!!!!!!! Let me know. I would love to hear about it. Thanks Alisha.

Great video. It's good to be reminded about these things. I often feel like there's so much to do and sometimes that can cause me to hesitate to practice. I always include pieces that are fun for me to learn though.

I try to put in my focused practise to learn new things. My level is what it is. I can't always control the outcome, but I can control the focused time that I put into it, and I try to be consistent at it, and keep track of it.

When i feel demotivated i watch some youtube videos, like yours. It gives some extra energy to practice, i dont know. Although i must say that those little asians playing songs much better than me at the age of 4 is a little bit frustating. Anyway, any tips of cool songs to learn for a year 2 of piano ?

Nezeb if you play jazz piano learn minor Swing - Django Reinhardt. For classical piano pick up a Bach collection of 2 part inventions and 3 part inventions / simphonys. Or some easier Chopin etüdes ( like op12 no 3)

About what you said about playing a song you don't like and just let it go, what about if you have a teacher and you kinda HAVE too? There is this one song I've been stuck on and can never perfect but I can't move on because I have a book my teacher gave that I have to complete. I've taken a break for almost 2 months thanks to plans on my lesson days lol but I still can't even touch my piano. This was inspiring to watch but I still feel depressed about not being able to be good after like 3 years. I can only read the basic notes too. Helllllpppp

How about when there seems to be no progress being made? Especially with really difficult stuff (Chopin Ballade 4 for me right now) - how to get motivated then :( That, and dat Ratch-maninoff lolol

that's normal. Piano progress is erratic, unlike practice (unless you don't practice regularly), so you'll have days when your progress is soaring, but some days when you just don't seem to get any progress. But if you're practicing well (unless your piano bench is switched to a different level), you're actually accumulating progress into more short bursts of awesome progress. You're welcome.
