I've been in tromso area in February and winter tyres are good enough, no spikes needed.

That's good to hear. What do you mean by Winter tyres?

You were lucky with weather In heavy snow conditions you wouldn't be able to drive with just winter tires

@@MarkGrayPhoto It's important to have dedicated winter tyres. They have softer rubber and specialized patterns for winter conditions. Some non-spiked winter tyres actually performs far better then spiked winter tyres in most winter conditions. That said, spiked tyres still holds a edge if you plan on driving on pure ice covered in water. There's just a limit to how much grip you can get on the ice without the spikes.

Great advice Mark 👍🏻 Is the road path more clear of snow in March / mid-March ?
@MarkGrayPhoto

It can often get better by March but is obviously weather dependant

0:52 Two wheel drive is okay, but go for front wheel drive if you can't get all wheel drive, rare wheel drive is a *bad* idea up here. 1:11 Well, ir depends on where you're driving. Spikes are far better when driving on pure ice. However for driving on snow there's actually non-spiked tires that outperforms the spiked winter tyres. So consider what conditions you expect to be facing. That said, spiked tyres perform okay regardless, while nonspiked tyres really struggle when there's only ice wet ice. Either way, get dedicated winter tyres.

Are roads in winter time always covered with snow and ice? In polar circle, after they plaw a snow How fast can you drive in those conditions?
@ironix4768
@ironix4768 Жыл бұрын
Depends on the weather and road. Never exceed the speed limit during winter, and your speed depends on brake distance, which is effected by the tyres you have and car weight, but generally you can keep the speed limit after it has been plowed but once you can see snow on the road you need to start thinking about slowing down I dont drive with spikes, i use winter tyres (3 main types kinda Summer Winter Spiked) Tho if you are not used to winter conditions spiked are probably a good idea. Tunnels are usually fine so you keep speed up there In most places 50kmh and lower are "fine" and anything over 50 is usually plowed often enough But again things happen and its your fault not the plowers if you end up gliding into something or someone

Like everywhere it’s weather/conditions dependant. I’ve been to Lofoten during the middle of winter and there’s been no snow but this is unusual. You just drive to the speed limit.
