Hi Pal, really enjoyed your journey. I'm 73 now and back in summer 1972, I traveled solo in Norway, having taken an overnight ferry from Newcastle, England to Bergen. Met some Norwegian lads on the ferry and we drank beer 'til the wee hours of the night. They wouldn't let me buy a beer, treated me all evening long. We were all in our early 20s. Once I arrived in Bergen, I was walking around the harbor and found a commercial boat that had a few staterooms for passengers and booked a trip into the Sognefjord. Wow, what an amazing experience that was! Such scenic beauty. The boat was loaded with goods for farmers in communities along the fjord that were only accessible by water, and I recall a couple of draft horses and a large farm tractor that were unloaded at a couple of stops by a crane on the back of the boat. We went all the way to Flam, then rode the Flam Train line up to the main Bergen train line. Amazing scenery! Got to the main train station in Oslo, then caught a train up north to Andalsnes, then caught a bus and ended up in a hostel in some community whose name I've long forgotten. I just wanted to get lost in Norway and see the countryside and experience the people there. It was a memory for a lifetime that I cherish to this day. You have one of the most beautiful and friendliest countries on planet Earth. Cheers from Lafayette, Louisiana, US.

I've been a trucker all over Europe. I am Romanian, i remember years ago i got to do deliveries from Dk to Norway mostly Oslo area but i had a few going up north. Norway is by far the most beautiful country I've ever seen. I was working but driving my truck there was like being on a vacation. I need to finish building my house and after that I'll save money for a campervan and the first jurney will be from Romania to northern Norway.

This is awesome. Every journey in Norway is just breathtaking. Last year I drove from Egersund to Flatdal in the summer and it was really hard to drive because every single scene outside the car was completely magical. I took the straightest route possible and it took me across the mountains. The downside of traveling in Norway is that going anywhere takes a long time because there is no highway system in the entire country. But the upside is that while you drive you will basically be treated to an unending line of wallpaper type scenery anywhere you go.
@norwaywithpal4 ай бұрын
Yes that is true! There is a highway system, it just doesn’t go through the most scenic places, but I understand what you mean.

Hi! I have done that journey in the mid 1970s before the bridges were built and used the ferry. Was travelling by car from Gothenburg, Sweden to Bergen. I can remember driving along and stopping at the "stavkyrkan" it's beautiful. We met a flock of sheep walking along the road close to that church. I remember the steep and winding road down not far from that huge waterfall... the height terrified me. We drove over the Hardangarvidda over night but is was around midsummer so wasn't really dark. That journey has stayed with me during all these years and is something I'll never forget . Thanks for the memories.

I was in the early 1980 in hogenwick ? Working 6 weeks with disabled people. Someone had to drive to Oslo and took me along. That might have been the same way that you drove. But the mountains where all covered with moss it looked like. This landscape I have never seen anywhere and not even on TV since. Best trip of my life. Amazing that you swam in the water. I jumped in there and straight out it was sooo cold. We also encountered goats that went to the farm to get molken. The guy told me in Norge the Farms are fenced in and the animals roam free. Don’t know if this is still the case. Now I live on the other side of the world,but I like to experience Norge again.

I really enjoyed this road trip! Thank you! In Oregon, on the West coast of the Pacific Ocean, you would have had so much traffic. Especially large RV’s, which makes our traffic stop and go, 10-20-25 miles per hour. Makes it difficult to visit the coast. You showed hardly any traffic, possibly due to the time of year you traveled? The museums looked like a real treat! And the fruit stands…oh my! We took the train to Bergen from Oslo, so I loved seeing the road trip!

I really like your video, showing the road map and the detailed trip. This is the kind of video I like to see. If I plan a 14 days self driving in Norway, which is the best round trip starting from Oslo. Maybe a 200km per day which includes meal time & sight seeing.

Hi Philip thanks for checking out my video! From Oslo I’d drive E6 over the Signe mountain to Bergen. Then you can drive north to the Geiranger fjord , take a ferry to Gudvangen and drive north to Trollstigen. From there you could go north to Molde, the Atlantic Ocean road, and go to Trondheim. Then drive south over the Dovre National park, and go to Røros or just drive south on road number 3 and drive over the Venabu mountain and back to Oslo. Just a suggestion, there are many routes that are nice to take. 200 km would be max of what I would drive. Most roads in Norway are slow and windy. So to have time to many stops/sightseeing etc it’s better to try at not drive too far every day . Have a nice drive!

I'm finding it hard not to read into the yellow 1986 vw camper and the raddison blu sign that I spotted. My dad drove across Europe with his first wife in the 1960s in a yellow vw campervan. I was born in 1986...and I always stay in a raddison blu when I'm flying out to the US. From the views, architecture and the food in this video as well as the signs, I now want to visit. 🙂

I did the same drive with an old friend, Ralph Høibakk, in 2016. Two old men behaving badly and having a great time! Thanks for the memories Paul.

Greetings Pal! I live in North County San Diego. I am a fine artist who loves to paint and pastel landscapes. I grew up in Michigan,USA where there are stands of birches on the drive north. Your video of the scenic & vintage sites is just superb. My dream trip should I ever get lucky is to tour Scandinavia, mostly Norway and Sweden. My ancestry is Polish/Baltic with some scandi. I guess that’s why it’s my fantasy place to visit! So appreciate your tour!❤️

Hi there! I’m just jumping into this conversation because my family and I are also hoping to travel in Norway. I’m curious, are you going to rent a car once you get there or have you booked something already? Thanks 😊
