Merino wool all day every day. Devold, Helly Hansen etc. Use it all year. If it´s very cold, I wear double on upper body. Dries faster than fleece AND does not stink, even after a week.

I wear thin nylon bootie socks over my dry suit socks to protect my dry suit socks from wearing out from dirt, grit, and small rocks that can get inside my shoes
@RiverKingsKayak11 ай бұрын
yes as do I.

Would you be able to share an example of nylon bootie socks you use?

So most important… the changing robe, got it! Good info can’t warrant the dry suit yet, maybe this summer I’ll pick one up cheap

very good advice... my answer to cold weather is not to kayak.. one more set of surgeries and hopefully easy rivers by late spring

keep your eyes on the prize jam! That first paddle dip is gonna feel so good!

Maybe I missed it, but when paddling in cold water I always wear some kind of ear plugs. I wanna minimize the risk of surfers ear.
@RiverKingsKayak11 ай бұрын
That's a great idea! However, I didn't include as I was keeping it to what I wear to stay warm...I felt earplugs was a different topic altogether. Thanks!

New Level 6 drysuits are great for the money. Although they sponsor me, I would never recommend something that doesn't work. They arent the best but ive used mine all winter with zero issues. I would agree IR is probably my favorite!

For sure! I forgot to mention Level 6. They are good stuff.

Military surplus grid fleece works well and is inexpensive. It’s my go to for under my drysuit.

The waffles are great, but I try not to have any zippers or other metal things anywhere near the gaskets on my drysuit.

I ordered the pogies right away. Much better than mine; they are a struggle to get into. Thanks for the tip!

Missed the live premiere :( I wish more companies would make large sizes for us really big boys! I already have to deal with a super short paddling season. I would love to be able to paddle in May and June too!

Great video, and thanks for the info! Before i invest in a dry suit, my question is how cold of water can I take my wetsuit in? I'm not a whitewater kayaker so i just usually anticipate falling in the water. Thanks for the help!
@RiverKingsKayak11 ай бұрын
air temps, wind, sun, water temps...there are a lot of factors. The wetsuit will def keep you going and is a viable insulator...It just isn't the answer for mobility for paddling etc.

I’ve been hearing great things about alpaca socks, with quite a few people preferring them over wool. Have you given them a try yet?

I have not tried them...but now I think I should!!
