How To Stealth A Drive - Corsair C70

Ha, this is great, totally doing this. Still have my green C70 from 2014, and just now in 2022 doing a major system upgrade. I found this while looking for case config ideas. Thanks.

Same - it's fun to dig through the archives as I prep this old green case for a modern build when the 9000 series drops. It's complete with no grommets missing or rotted, no scuffs etc. Modernizing it with a solid window, 3D printed lower PSU chamber, adding USB-C FPIO, and support for 360mm AIO. The only thing that will be a giveaway inside after I'm done is the upper drive cage - not going to pop those rivers and lose the rigidity, not to mention damage it's value. Seen what these cases go for on eBay now? Crazy.

I also left the upper drive tray in since I still have a DVD drive, but was able to figure a way to put the 2 SSDs in there as well, and was able to remove the lower 2 massive 2.5" bays, freeing up a lot of air flow. Went with a 280mm AIO which fits perfectly and keeps the 12600k

Followed this guide for my C70 and it worked just fine. Instead of using metal cutters I drilled out the rivets holding the tabs on with a 9/64 metal drill bit.

Nice job! It answers the question of how to get an optical drive in any color other than black. They used to come in white or include two faceplates. Your mod costs next to nothing and that's impressive.

That's exactly the point. Some people just want a hidden drive, like maybe if the color doesn't quite match or they don't like the labeling or something. Its also good for people who need a drive *just* often enough that they can't live without it, but at the same time don't use it frequently enough to make it worth the loss of aesthetics.

This is great. Thank for the tutorial. I am going to do this for my Silverstone GD09 HTPC for a much more sleek look. Doing a stealth optical drive like this also saves me money from buying a slim slot loading optical drive (and a 5.25 drive bay adapter for it as well) since they are so ridiculously expensive. Great little guide. Would like to point out if you do not have a pair of tinsnips you can simply fold the tabs inward and the little rivets or whatever they are will pop loose.

I also (just did it) cut the square end from a cable tie to close the distance on the button instead of stacking tape. Looks much better than dvd drive sticking out there.

Sweet tut man, this was my only concern with getting the green c70. and screw what everyone is saying about the red LEDs, the red looks sweet. I'm going for a ROG scheme inside the greencase myself.

That's the reason i'm getting it ^_^ my dads a vet and i just love all things military except COD, If it came in camo i would define that as a teeny color. Great case mod tut the optical drive bay was the only thing i saw as a downside before and now i cant believe that i didn't think of this fix. Thanks a Ton

Very nice thank y7ou for sharing. I did this with my Corsair C70 Vengeance Military Green cause the two LG DVD Drives are black and look ugly and take away from the overall Awesomeness of this Case. I do have to admit I am very picky and had to play with the drives for a little to get them to open and close perfectly every time but it was worth the time.

You can also use the 3m Scotch® Indoor/Outdoor Mounting Tape. Its stronger and it removes with no residue.

Nice work mate. WARNING though. Do NOT plug your dvd drive back in when the computer is turned on. That's a very dangerous and amateur thing to do. I learned the hard way by short circuiting my computer... :\ Thought I'd warn others.

Awesome, i just got this case and didn't want to ruin the clean look on the front with an ugly drive. I was wondering about this, aren't there also those drives that move a folding cover out of the way? That could possibly be even better.

Nice might do this myself, just one quick note though you dont really need to have a button to open/close the optical drive. You could just do it from windows

It is an HP DVD1260 DVD Drive. Any other drive will work but you might need to make a few adjustments to my directions.

Been staring at my case for about a week now debating painting the center section of the front black or trying to match the paint color corsair uses to the drive face but this.. This I like. How has the tape been holding up after 3 years?

IF UR DVD TRAY DOES NOT EJECT AFTER DOING THIS Unscrew the screws and open your DVD drive Now see if tray is all the way in, Just apply some pressure in the front and press it back in. it will make a click noise and you will be able to see on 2 small white things coming out, the tray also has 2 holes or opening at the end, and once u press it should push back in attach itself with the lil white things. (this is also for anyone who's dvd drive's manual eject button is free or not locked in.

It shouldn't short it, it will just mess with the electronics. If you're plugging it in normally, it will connect to the leads that it would connect to if you plugged it in while the computer was off, it's not shorting anything.

The Corsair Vengeance C70 is not an m-ATX case. It is a mid tower ATX case.

Sadly no. Not stock at least. I'm sure if you took your time with a drill you'd be able to make your own system for thumb screws. Like you stated, it's a nice feature but has it's flaws.

John David Dunson I have not done it myself, but if you make sure the surface is cleaned properly and you do not touch the tape or surface I would think it could last nearly indefinitely.

I bought the arctic white one. And since the plastic details are black, the black dvd drive doesn't look out of place. I love the cabinet though, I'm just implying that "military green" is for teenagers. >military >call of dooty >teenagers
