A metal colander could work also some baking paper to stop your dumplings from sticking I've also heard you could use a tin pie tray but I haven't tried it I was lucky enough to find a cheap electric steamer from my local aldi

I’m thinking glass or ceramic bowl should be fine. Just make sure to let the glass cool down on its own if you choose a glass bowl. I’ll be using a ceramic bowl for this
