Thank you for posting this! I fell off of a mare who decided to canter/gallop while I was trotting her. Being that I haven’t learned how to ride faster than at a trot and because I’m very inexperienced, I shouted whoa, she didn’t respond, I foolishly crouched into the fetal position, and practically went flying as a result. Ever since, I wanted to learn what to do God forbid if I wind up in the same situation, and you did a great job with explanation and demonstration in this video. :)

This is what happened to me on my welsh pony except I was trying to get her to trot so I could get over the last time she "bolted" (it was more of a trot bareback that turned into a lope) but I ended up falling off along with my saddle after hitting a tree with the side of my jaw.

I had to use the lateral flexion today twice. My horse spooked two times in my lessons and both times it came in handy! The first time he crow hopped around and I had to hold to the saddle to stay on but also slow him tf down lol, second time he galloped instead of what I asked him which was cantering. I actually am not quite sure what I used in that situation since I was shooketh that he did that since he’s lazy af but I think I did use it once he broke into a canter from his few gallop strides.

I have an ottb that is a dream horse when in walk and trot but in canter he just rushes and races other horses. I am not too sure what to do because our trails are quite narrow giving me 0 ability to do anything(important thing is he is all good in an arena with horses galloping around)

My horse doesn't start off walking she goes straight into a trot, and when i ask her to slow down or stop she just runs faster, any suggestions

+JordanEquastrian🐴💜 Hey there! That's not good. If it's a bolting situation, I would try to stop her sooner. When most horses bolt they speed up pretty quickly (or go straight into a trot or canter) and if we don't catch it (and do lateral flexion or an ice brake stop) before they get into canter, they can be hard to stop. So make sure you make sure you are stopping her soon enough and you don't let her dictate your speed. I also highly recommend doing the T-bone exercise. This helps a lot with horses who don't want to stop. How it will work for you is any time your horse is going faster than you want, you do a t-bone turn. (Here's a link to a video on how to do t-bone: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqfUXq2wrs6Jf6c ) Also a little ground work before will help a lot. It's a good way to let them get out that extra energy and to make sure they are listening to you, stopping, etc. before you get on. I know it's hard when you can't get your horse stopped. I had a similar issue with my horse, Dandy (the one in the video), and these are a few of the things that helped us. I hope this helps! Thanks for commenting!

a bolting horse is not going to be light against the rein haha. They usually lock their jaw when they are bolting and will not give

Very true. The key is to be able to read your horse and get the situation under control before they bolt. Most horses will give you warning signs before it happens.

Most horses will not give you signs before they bolt. Bolting happens in an instant triggered by something, bolting is 0 -100 not a progressive thing.

Very true today my arabian horse bolted like thunder i could not get the situation under control by using those softy softy techniques ice break and lateral shit it wont work .... u girls always on ice cold lazy horses that can barely breath !!! Sure this will work i want to see u ridding my stalian and this and get the same results !! I ended up using my own invented way which is go with it in fact fk him go faster fk u ,,, u cant intimidate me finally he stopped cuz nothing goes forever ,,,, i agree u can detect tension in horse and if u quick and lucky enough with dump lazy horse u can prevent it. Thank you sorry for my french.
