In this video, Pat introduces you to Joe, a 6 year old Appaloosa. Joe is a green horse who has been ridden in his past by some fearful riders who haven't been leaders. The result is that Joe is worried, as you can hear from the constant sound of the cricket. Pat wants to preserve Joe's forward, bold nature while also letting him know that he doesn't have to be worried. This is the first in a number of videos we'll make with Joe over the course of the winter. We hope you'll enjoy watching his progress. For more information, visit our website, www.thediscipli... . Please take a moment to hit the Like button, Subscribe to our channel, and Share with your friends. Thank you for watching!

An outstanding specimen, with a plain name, and fortunate to be under your tutelage. Amazing how the average rider cannot read the body language of a horse. Thank you for the in-depth study made available to the general public.

Great video! I really look forward to seeing Pat work him out in the desert, and seeing how Pat shuts him down if the horse starts getting worried

Really like the looks of this horse! He looks like a cool old school App though he has some odd legs and hooves though his face is so cute! They are giving really good advice here....too many people have a choke hold on their horses and then wonder why the horse is so hot and worked up. This horse is also releasing a lot of tension almost this whole session...because the rider is relaxed and breathing right as he says....so cool to see. My suggestion for folks afraid to put the reins down..put the reins down and if the horse really wants to move just turn them in a pretty tight circle...best way to handle really forward horses, if what Pat shows you doesn't work.

Excellent video: allows the horse to make a mistake, then corrects and relaxes. The Arabian horse has been bred with these go-ahead tendencies for many centuries. We bred the Straight Egyptian many years. With the right training. they will do anything that is asked of them. I just wished that Mr. Pat Puckett would have been close at hand when i started with these horses. However, at 87 yrs., i look back at my victories with the babies knowing that they are working their way into someone`s heart while telling folks to search-out Pat`s videos for a good head start with their riding and training.

My horse has such a great foreward and I stopped to take care of the slow riders in the group...so my horse and me we feel so much better and enyoy the go❤ yes because of that we are mostly on the head of the groupe but I can also change the position for some time because my horse ist relaxed❤

Your ocala Florida fan has been waiting for another lesson, this seams a lot like my horse, he just want to move forward. I been dropping the Raines now for months. Things are getting better. Side passing one direction seam much better than the other.

I think those are from Jeremiah Watt with a few modifications to the band, meaning he ground off some of the embellishments to make them sit flat on the spur counters.

Im new at this. What is a cricket? To ask him to side step left i should point my left toe out? So right would be right toe out?

We teach our horses to move away from pressure, not into it. So when you ask your horse to move to the left, you would use your right leg only and vice versa.

@PatnDebPuckett I was wondering if a horse like Joe, very forward and wanting to go go go all the time, would ever be a candidate for being brought up into a spade bit or not. I'd be curious to hear your opinion on that. Thanks

No amount of schooling can change DNA. Lets make a video out with the cows and a group of horses and see if he is lovesick. In all your years of being a cowboy you must surely have come across a love sick horse that can't be changed. Viewers need to know this.

Most of the time, it depends on the confidence of the rider. But this particular horse doesn't seem to have this problem.

6 years old. You've got to be kidding. We had all our horses ready by 2 years of age. We never had any issues loading horses on trailers or in the back of trucks. We had ours trained to jump in the back of our 63 step side with stock racks. The horses went down the road with their heads over the cab.

This horse is one that we have only had for a short time so he is learning new things. That said, we don't expect our horses to be "ready to go" at 2 years old. Our horses are usually not completely finished until they are 10. But they are gentle and handling well by the time they are 4.
