We had a serious problem last year with leaking chimneys so in this video I will show you how I fixed the leaking chimneys. Belt and braces it maybe; but they don't leak any more!

Apologies to those of you who watched the video right after upload as I didn't realise KZbin had not finished processing the HD version and you only got the 1990's SD version. Hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers.

Great to see you back posting after what seems like quite a while. Great work and excellent solution. Your workshop looks superb too. Hopefully see some more from you soon!

Thanks very much. It's been up there for a few months now and has fixed the problem. Still need to do something about the roof verges as they are susceptible to driving rain but that's for another day. The workshop is working well. Already wish it was bigger but isn't that always the case. There are a couple more videos waiting to be edited and I'm recording a job at the moment but there are many other priorities at the moment. I'm hopeful that by the middle of next year I should be in a position to put more time back into making videos. Thanks for sticking with we and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

@@Handmadeextreme No problem my friend. Yes the workshop could always be bigger! Still small spaces focus the mind I think. Know what you mean about priorities. Life is like that. I have a channel now which you were one of the inspirations for. I can't always do things due to my work taking me away from home. So I get it. It will be great to see more from you. Glad you are back posting!

Cool. I never seen that trick about twisting up the wire for use in aluminum tigging, pretty slick. Thanks for sharing this vid!

What a job 👍🏼 None of that old patch it up with a bit of bitumen paint here!! That will be there when all of us aren’t 😂

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. There are some more videos on the way. Already shot but need editing etc. Lots to do over the coming months so they may be a bit sporadic I'm afraid. Thanks for the support.

I've done my fair share or roofing and chimney chases, flashings and caps. I worked for a company a number of years ago that installed factory made fireplaces. I don't envy your job, as it's not fun doing that work alone, and at nosebleed height. I turned out well and should be very functional.

Did the draft in the chimney change any way after installing the top on the pipe? Nice work! You just gave me some inspiration to fix an issue here without going to a thin plate shop! And just so you know. Your videos are a high point of the day when you upload. With the stuff going on in Ukraine, nuclear threats being made, energy crisis, coming food crisis etc. it would be great with more uploads from you. And besides, my birthday is coming up as well next month ;-)

As far as I can tell it's still the same. No problem with draw on the log burner below it anyway. It did have a cap on it before but it was not very good if the wind was in the wrong direction and used to have downdraft problems. Glad you enjoy the videos. I do have a couple more shot that just need editing and I'm doing a job at the moment that I'm recording so there will be more to come; Though I expect they may still be a bit sporadic in their timing.

Hi. Nice to see a video from you after a fairly long time, but I'm curious as to why you didn't make a masonry type repair rather than metal. Surely that must make a proper din when it rains? Regards Mark in the UK

Thanks. I wanted a fit and forget solution. I did look into rebuilding them with lead trays and new stonework etc etc but the cost was silly and it's not an area I'm that proficient in. I think I did the whole job for about the same amount as it would have cost me to rent the scaffolding for the couple of weeks I would have needed to take down and rebuild the chimneys in stone. Regarding the noise. We have a couple of Velux windows on the back of the roof so they dominate sound wise when it rains hard.. and where we are it really rains hard.. The walls are a good 600mm thick solid stone so we don't hear anything from the chimneys. Cheers, glad you enjoyed it.

An interesting solution. I had the local chimney bloke come out to do mine, repoint, re-cement the pot and fit a new cap. Are there any building regs involved? We had to do a few repairs prior to having our new fireplace installed. A bit of wear and tear. Best wishes, Dean.

Thanks. We had a chap look at ours and it would have cost a small fortune to have a lead tray put in (they never put one in when the chimney was built) so I ran this past the local historic buildings guy and he was really keen on the idea. We too have had / still have loads of work to do on the house. Glad you enjoyed the video.
