This is a great video on how NOT to ruin your chimney. Do it right with the proper products and not some goo that with crack and leak again after a few hot summers and winters.

a little late for me to reply. Did it work?
@JustShoveJayOhBe2 жыл бұрын
@@FlatRoofDoctor yes! I’ve had 2-3 snow melts and half dozen rain storms, no more leaking. The roofer that came when this started quoted $4995 for 1 chimney $3998 for the 2nd chimney to replace tiles 3 feet around chimneys, build cricket, and redo step flashing… none of those would have even fixed the chimney crowns or the leaks. THANK YOU.

Please don’t do this to ur chimney there is products that are made for your crown go to saver system I am a Tumi certified technician this is not allowed it won’t help it’s only a 10 year thing in this product is flammable anything happens to that your whole chimney has to be ripped apart and rebuilt
@FlatRoofDoctor2 жыл бұрын
Ok, I searched for "Tumi certified technician" on the web and found nothing regards chimney's. So, certification means nothing. Most chimneys are build by proper masons. No need to be certified by anyone. Most chimneys, no matter how well it was build, have issues later on. The crown busts up, cracks, the flashing comes loose, the mortar grout comes out, the flu pipes deteriorate. So to claim that some certificate is gonna make you build a better chimney, is not true. True, I see some chimneys that are amazing, well build. Those are far and inbetween. I would think that they cost far more to build than the average chimney. Ice and water is the enemy of any brick and mortar. So, with that said, I believe to seal the crown and the flashing with a water tight sealant so water can not penetrate into the chimney. Cement by itself does not cut it.
@brenbates16772 жыл бұрын
As a Mason this video is disturbing. You are taking the easy way out and most likely charging big money. Remove crown and pour a new crown. Grind out weak joints and re point them with new mortar. I personally would've taken the chimney down to the roof line and re built it. You're only covering a problem that happens with weather , sun expansion and contraction. Do it and Do it right
@FlatRoofDoctor2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree. But you assume everyone can afford your method. The point is this was build right when the building went up. So, it did not last that long.. But the method I propose will buy at least another 20 years or longer if you keep the coating protected
