How to Stop A Facebook Impersonator

Facebook Impersonators are a new scam that targets not you, but your friends. Someone creates a fake Facebook profile that looks like you (stealing your profile and timeline photos) and then proceeds to send friend requests to many of your friends. They then tend to send a "help request" to these friends telling them to send money. In this video tutorial, David A. Cox of Tech Talk America will show you how to stop this should this happen to you, as well as a simple way to prevent it from happening in the future.

Excellent information! I took two out of three of the author's recommendations. I do want my Friends to be able to see a list of my other Friends. I only "Friend" people I actually know (either personally or through other Friends), so this works fine for me. I use the privacy controls for posts and pictures all the time.. Some I want only Friends to see, and some I want everyone to see (Public). Facebook is pretty easy to use (and use safely), once you become familiar with its features.

This happened to my sister. It was nice to know how many people were willing to help out thinking that she was in dire straits. No one was scammed in this case. But it was nice to know that there are a lot of nice people out there. It is sad that there a people willing to take advantage of this. Thank you for this video, good work!

Excellent. I see also this happening with people saying. "Hey I got this money from facebook, the UN or some goverment agency did you get yours?" then you are sent to some "Agent" account which is also fake who asks you all kinds of personal questions.

Someone made a fake account under my name. I’ve listened to your tech talk. But not understanding. The fake account I’m at but when I push the three dots ... (activity log) drop down menu only gives me. View as and timeline settings. Not a complete drop down so I can report This is not clear on how to report.

I can't get to fake page as I have been blocked. Someone is impersonating me and I can't notify FB throough fake page. I send a report and get a response that the page in question does not contravene community standards. Any ideas. This is such a waste of my time and so ineffectual reporting. I did follow your instructions to not have firends public . Very helpful!!

Great video, I deleted my account over 5 weeks ago and found out its popped up as a fake imposter today. Been abusive to my friends etc. I tried reporting it to FB but as this account was set up as a nick name I don't have proof its me etc. Didn't want to use my real name as I thought a nick name would be more secure Now I don't know what I can do
