6 years on and the RCMP, federal and provincially government are raiding unceded Wet'suwet'en land right now for Coastal Gaslink. It's sickening, but there's a revolution in Canada and around the world. It's time to demand Indigenous rights be respected and Indigenous sovereignty to be upheld.

But the indigenous people already said NO. What part of that don't they understand? It doesn't matter what they do in the future if the chiefs have already told them they are in violation if they proceed. They have already trespassed numerous times to even place the plastic ribbons.

So the government, who owns only part of the land that they plan to build the pipeline on approves it, but the native chiefs who own the other part and have final say in the manner don't approve, and yet the pipeline is still building anyway? That goes beyond rude, that's fucking evil.

Your knowledge of what the issue at hand is very minimal. We’re taking a stand on big Corp and government entities straight up confiscating land and forcing their into the area. I don’t know if you own a home or property but let’s just say you do. Hypothetically speaking Would you mind if someone used your place/property to clean porta potties? Probably not, because it would devalue your property and make it unliveable after and during. In 1997 the Supreme Court recognized our system and not the system that was implemented on us. Drives a GAS guzzling .truck is an irrelevant statement.

Remember the Kalamazoo River in Michigan, USA. The Kalamazoo River oil spill occurred in July 2010 when a pipeline operated by Enbridge burst and flowed into Talmadge Creek, a tributary of the Kalamazoo River. A six-foot break in the pipeline resulted in the largest inland oil spill, and one of the costliest spills, in U.S. history. The pipeline carries diluted bitumen, a heavy crude oil from Canada's Athabasca oil sands to the United States. Following the spill, the volatile hydrocarbon diluents evaporated, leaving the heavier bitumen to sink in the water column. Thirty-five miles of the Kalamazoo River were closed for cleanup until June 2012, when portions of the river were re-opened. On March 14, 2013 the Environmental Protection Agency ordered Enbridge to return to dredge portions of the river to remove submerged oil and oil-contaminated sediment. Enbridge doesn't know how to finish.

***** The oil & gas (and coal) industries have worked in collusion with governments to suppress alternatives to their highly destructive resource development; to keep the citizenry beholden to them. The industrial advances they've provided will come to naught if they don't shift their course. Would you be smiling if there were no forests, no clean water, no fresh air, no wildlife or natural vistas? Of course not. We can't keep spending those resources forever. The energy industries don't provide food or clothing. At best, they provide a paycheque. They supply a means, but not the only means, to an end. Polyester, rayon, and spandex (and other oil based textiles) aren't essential. Plastics certainly have many uses, but they can be replaced in many instances and there are other ways to produce them where they can't, from renewable and earth-friendly sources. The oil & gas industries have not produced anything fundamental to the improvement of the human condition that fundamentally has to be produced by oil & gas consumption - at one time, it was the easiest resource to develop at a massive scale. As the resources become more scarce, we're seeing much about the industry that is fundamentally harmful to the human condition. There are other, equally viable industries that oil & gas can move into if the industry leaders are intelligent about it. Or other entrepreneurs can fill the void. That the industries feel the need to literally and figuratively bulldoze over the lands of indigenous peoples, as well as the rights and civil liberties of all of us, is telling. The world is slowly but inexorably moving in a new direction - or else! - and it's time for industry to lead the way, instead of following the dinosaurs. It doesn't even really take much of a change of course, but more of a shifting of the paths we take. And I say this knowing that I am surrounded by the products and benefits of the oil & gas industries. But the wheels of industry keep turning, bringing new innovations, standards, and ethics with each turn, and it's time for another revolution.

Just as a heads-up here: if anyone is planning on supporting these guys, make sure to practice adequate security culture. I'm likely on a watchlist for incriminating opinions that I've foolishly posted on the net.The Canadian government is targeting activists in both well-known and illicit ways, and will likely stop at nothing to quell resistance regarding future energy and infrastructure projects. Remember what you're fighting for, you don't want to be put in a jail cell for some rant you posted on the internet a few years ago. Stay noided.

The bottom line is these are their tribal lands, and no one has the right to come in and build anything on them without permission. I don't know about Canadian laws, but as far as I know, in the U.S., tribal lands do not belong to our Federal government. They belong to the tribe and are in effect, a country within a country. I hope they continue to fight and get support from around the world.

I have so much respect for the Wet'suwet'en nation and especially for the people at Unist'ot'en camp. Don't give up this fight, it's worth it. Corporations, the BC government, and the federal government of Canada need to be taught that they can't just ignore our laws when it's inconvenient for them. Building a pipeline on your territory without your consent is clearly illegal, and if they can never get your consent, well then too bad, so sad, maybe you shouldn't have assumed it would be okay? Maybe they'll lose millions of dollars on wasted construction, but c'mon, they're swimming in money, and sometimes risks don't pan out the way you hope.

Fight back in any way you can. Support people like this with food, shelter, necessities, anything that could help. Raise awareness in your community, join or start projects that aim to defend the landbase you inhabit. If you're fine with a potential prison sentence or the possibility of harm, engage in direct action that goes beyond symbolic protest. The time for talk is over, as far as I'm concerned. In the end, it's all up to what you choose to do with your time.

Without a doubt the first nations have a point ... there is no treaty for their ancestral lands the oil and gas companies have no right to go onto their land and survey or do any such actions. I grew up next to a reservation on the BC coast and I am so happy to see the First Nations peoples step up after the generations lost from Residential schools and loss of cultural idenity. That being said ... Canada's social framework and systems rely on revenues from taxation of industries like natural gas and oil. Canada needs to refine at home (rather than exporting bitumen). We need as a people need to find a way of getting resources exported safely while respecting land owners rights. Many of the Eco side haven't given alternative ideas of how to export and saying "no" to LNG or Oil isn't in the realm of reality and real solutions are needed.

I Live in Utah USA and I think it is safe to say that the oil companies have no concern for the land. Despite their "commitment to the environment" we have had oil in both the Green and San Juan rivers this year. The technology for extraction has far outpaced the technology for cleanup. In the United states, there have been a number of communities that have just had to be abandoned as a result of accidents. I'm looking at you Bayou Corne. I can't imagine what we've done in Africa. I suggest that if you want your children to be able to live on their ancestral land, don't let up for a second.

It is their land (property) after all. Here in Oregon, many landowners in the SW part of the state have been resisting the eminent domain confiscation of their land on behalf of private corporations in order to build energy grids to California. They formed a group, the Pitchfork Rebellion to fight for their land, using civil legal and non violent means. For their pains, they were labeled "terrorists" by the Feds. I would ask all the scoffers against these people, just who are the looters?

I live on the Swinomish reservation in Washington state. It would help your cause if you gave us some better information as to where you are located in terms that make sense to people not from your locale.

The French and British were nicer than native Warrier were to each other. Native would kill their enemy and take what they wanted. Now the price to be paid will be endless. Life sucks for most of the people in the world at some point.

notice the caveat on the sign, talking about the pipeline bringing "real jobs" this has been shown to be false as a pipeline creates about 75 permanent jobs, not the hundreds they are claiming.
