I just replaced a couple of failed sleeve bearings fans after they went noisy. For the replacements, I chose the Manrose Gold fans which have ball bearings so hopefully they last a long time!

Owen, a common problem with those sintered bronze bearings, same with many dehumidifiers. I think I would just have applied oil. Interesting it had felt wicks to store oil, cheers

I live in an old building in Glasgow from about 1890. We have found some walls that didn't have a DPC. Damp contractor wanted to tank the walls, inject chemical DPC and take £8k for the privilege. Instead we got a builder to remove the bottom course of brick (which were badly damaged anyway) and fit a physical DPC for a lot lot lot less. The wall is absolutely bone dry now. Looking at humidistat extractors now too.

Common failure on these things, easy to repair once you know how to do it like demonstrated in the video. Well done :)

I have a similar cellar in a 175 year old house, I ended up blocking the vent and running a dehumidifier 24/7 draining into 25l tubs. Cellar is done dry but turn the dehumidifier off for one day and its soaking again.

Must be expensive. The small fan is cheap to run. Remove the moisture laden air

Yes it takes its toll on the eletric bill, I will give this a method a try and pop a humidity reader in to see if its a cheaper solution thanks 🫡

If you can control the air coming into the cellar, with warmer dryer air from the rooms above then it will dry it out over time. if you have more cold damp air coming in through airbricks then that will just condense and make it damper.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but does the fan run 24/7?
