First I REALLY appreciate Emma putting herself out there for us to watch her work on the serve. I can relate to the struggle. Secondly Nick is one of the top guys putting out tennis content. He is an excellent coach at all levels. Wish I had him as a coach when I was young.

Sheesh anytime I’m not comfortable with my serve I think to Niks progressions he did for the “re calibration” and ask myself when was the last time I’ve actually carved out time to focus on them and hit from the inner service line. Great stuff.

This is soooo great! I’ve had the same issues and this helps me a lot! Thanks so much. In practice yesterday, I hit over ten aces and barely hit a double fault. But in tournament matches, that confidence can disappear and that fear of trying to get the second serve in creeps in…I’ll follow your advice and do those drills today. I like to believe that what I do in practice, I can do in a real match. It’s all mental! But having specific things to do during those freak outs is so helpful! This was like a private lesson with you…but for free. Much appreciated 🙏🎾🏆

At the recreational level, my advice for a double fault crisis is kick serve all the time. That way you can adjust immediately after a first kick gone wrong. You get into a rhythm twice as fast. I don't know much about pro level but if she double faults 24 times in a match, I would sacrifice my 1st serve right away to regain confidence in the 2nd

I'm nowhere near as good as Ema but that's exactly what I've done this year. Every practice or social match iv served only with a kick serve just to get the practice in. Now when playing league matches I only double fault once or twice a set.

Great lesson! 8:15 Then what if my kick serve mostly goes into the net? Guide it more towards the opponent i.e. add more forward movement?

I believe that with kick serve, one shoud go and open 45 deprese , meaning you follow and open towards right fence, and has to be thorough relaxed racket drop?

All the best to Ema on the return to WTA journey. For the serve, just a thought. Maybe I’m wrong but it looks like she does not have much torso rotation during the coil, so even with a little uncoiling she’s already opened up with most of the body facing the net. Hard to throw the racket to the right with the hip and shoulders already facing the net.

Nik, do you have any videos with advices on how to serve in windy conditions? Today it was so windy and while serving I hit a home run: framed the second serve and the ball left the park…. So embarrassing and an instant confidence killer. At least this time it could be blamed on the wind. Thanks!

@@leandronicolas8848maybe it's done as a warmup here, but it's a strengthening exercise really.. yes you can work these muscles with certain machines in the gym (abductor in seated position) or even with your own body weight lying sideways (clamshell exercise) but the resistance bands enable you to do them functionally, just as they are used in tennis, with the entire body weight on the lower extremities. But i recommend seeing a PT if you have knee problems, there are many different knee problems and many different reasons for it.

her problem is so obvious. Her body is facing the court too much at contact. She needs to get her chest facing up to the sky more, by leaning further back. This will help the more upward swing path. and delete those double faults. ps. imagine the butt of your racket aiming up at the sky as well this will really give you that kick serve.

Just watched her serve again, she literally doesn't lean back at all!! so upright, go watch tommy paul Kick serve slow mo. That's how you do it.
