Mario, BIG TIME congratulations on your successful journey to give it up! There are so many suffering and thank you for getting some advice out there. Did you go through withdrawals when you quit. I don't expect I will as busy as you must be, but I'd like to know. Some folks can quit cold turkey and some might be in physical danger...not just a bad habit.. Thanks!

I've been drinking everyday. For the last five or six years now. Yesterday. I decided to start and go on with the 30 day challenge. I want to compete with myself. I know I can I do. I don't want to end up with liver disease or anything. After the 30 days. I pray to God I wOnt drink anymore. Pray for me guys. And I'll pray for u too.

At some point in the progression of the disease, you drink alone. It becomes not a social drug to make you feel relaxed in social situations. It becomes a drug to cope with bad feelings, or have something to do because you're lonely. That's when alcoholism sucks you in. Many party in college and beyond. When it become a party between the you and the booze, it's becoming a bigger problem. We can all connect on social media to make us feel that we are not alone. But in fact, we are alone. It's easy to not sound drunk in a post, but if you were talking face to face, you obviously would. It's an easy way to avoid the stigma of being considered an alcoholic or a drunk. Smart, logical people who actually do good things, make a good living, are alcoholics among us. They hide their behavior better than anyone. I'm one of those people. We know the disease is bad for our bodies that can kill us. But the feeling we crave, that good feeling, is a more powerful force than the rational feeling that we know that it will either ruin us or kill us. Anyone that has been through it knows this.

Mario Tomic You're welcome. Anyone that says it's easy does not understand this addiction. If it were easy, you wouldn't have hundreds of millions on this planet having to deal with this when the act of drinking is absolutely voluntary. Hundreds of millions and the number us going up.

You will stop once become aware how your addictive cycle works in your life and how it isn't really what you truly desire. It clicked for me when I told myself that "yes I enjoy drinking but not the idea of doing it all the time". I stopped while I was on the way to the dep. Don't stop trying, that's how you get that moment of clarity. I relapsed many times but then I got tired of listening to irrational urges making me waste money and messing up with my brain's neurotransmitters.

I was a high functioning alcoholic for over 12 years....a binge drinker... always drinking til I passed out. I've embarrassed myself so many times, lost so many jobs, friends, opportunities.... been in so many situations that should've scared me out of the habit, but it just made it worse. It took ONE week with ONE person with the exact same sickness/hsbits as me....a work colleague who's a few years older than me to open my eyes and see how out of control I was. I saw myself, my habit in him and it made me take a closer look at my choices and/or decisions I've made to even end up there. It actually motivated me to NOT be that person....like him...sad to say. So I quit everything cold turkey. And I've never felt so good in my entire life!!!!!! I've tried quitting before, but always relapsed... this time I set myself up for success. This time it's for good.

Alcohol is a substance that has been destroying millions of lives and families for generations. It's bad for our health, it impairs our judgement, and it limits our potential. We do need to find other ways of enjoying ourselves without it being so costly. I do not support that industry. Everyone has vices, but at least have the humility to accept it as something unhealthy. The first part of getting better is acceptance. Keep up the good work Mario. You're ahead of your time. Thanks for encouraging your viewers to become better.

I'm tired of letting alcohol ruin my life I just lost a great job because I wanted to go out and get drunk and I was too hungover to go to work several times. I never want to drink again. My only problem is everybody around me drinks. And I can't exactly accepted myself cuz I wouldn't have anybody. I don't know what to do. All I know is I never want to be drunk ever again.

dirty30-cleanse the good news is you never have to be drunk again. I should have a year sober today but because I decided to make poor choices I only have 30 days sober today. I saw on your channel you're a new vegan, that's awesome! Today is a year I have been vegan too. Just take everything a day, an hour, a minute at a time. If you slip get back up quickly and keep moving forward. This time a year ago I was in the hospital after suffering a seizure from detoxing, I had a second seizure in the hospital and spent 5 days detoxing. I may only have 30 days today but it's way better than where I was a year ago at this time. Things get better if you do the work. Good luck with your sobriety!

Oh yeah and I fell off the vegan train many times but now I'm going strong.

Dude, not wanting to sound negative, but it seems to me like you never really had a real drinking problem... a couple of binge drinking nights-out convinced you it's time to stop, and that's totally cool, more power to you man, but your "I got mad at myself and decided to quit" approach is gonna do very little for people with REAL drinking problem... trust me on this one ;) when you need to take benzodiazepines only to stop the shakes and anxiety only 12 hours after your last drink, and not being able to sleep/think/function normally over the next couple of days... ugh... I'm glad you never got to that stage, but please don't play the expert on the subject :) peace out!

You have two physical options here: you can either get into a detox program and walk through Hell and survive or try to do it by yourself. Detox can be expensive, but if you have a sympathetic doctor, ask them about taking zafron and librium. This will help with the nausea/vomiting and eventually remove the withdrawal symptoms. When it comes to this shit, symptoms manifest but tapering is an option, but for most, you can't do it.

Great topic man! I quit drinking two years ago. Two friends of mine tried it with me but they both failed. I think the biggest difference between us was that I learned to push myself to be in a good mood and within the first months had amazing experiences partying sober. This actually felt better than being drunk. Kinda like a clean high. Since I know my mood can be as good or even better without alcohol I have no cravings anymore.

I smoked cigs for 15 years about a pack a day. And I tried to quit all the time. But one day, I got mad, and I got tired of them controlling me. Everything I did had to be about smoking. Going to the movies sucked, because I wanted cig every hour. I got fed up. I quit. It took a year of smoking a vape to quit, but I quit. I am almost at 3 years with zero cigs, and 2 years without a vape. After 15 years im proud as fuck. Alcohol is another story. I am having a lot of trouble quitting. I love your video, thank you.

I decided today that it is time to take it out my life completly......i suffer with anxiety and depression and after a drink i open up and talk about my problems but then i can be super happy or super drunk or super emotional. I can go from one extreme to the other within an instant. So embarassed with how i acted yesterday and i dont like the person i am when i do drink so why do i do it? It's time for me to become the sober one, the one who doesnt drink and the one who wakes up without feeling like a complete fool. thanks x

+Ishbu101 you sound like me, drinking in high school for fun, I started drinking everyday by the time I was 20. I'm 35 now and my body can't take anymore alcohol, I've started to cough up blood over the last year whenever I get wasted, which is everyday, trying to get sober by myself it's been 1 week now, after 1 month I'm going to the doctors for a check up, I think if I can last a month then I won't go back.

@ilian334
@ilian334 8 жыл бұрын
+Ishbu101 Your story is the same as mine, my favorite high is alcohol, just so good, in fact I've tried some other stuff but alcohol is the best. It really is hard to kick and this is because it's actually easy. Meaning you can just stop and nothing will happen, just everyone else keeps drinking and you can very easily rationalize that it's okay to get drunk again because everyone does it or you are at a birthday and you have a reason. If you were hooked on crack cocaine you will eventually find yourself broke hitting rock bottom and will be like okay I have to quit or I will be homeless or die, but with alcohol that doesn't happen, it's okay to drink and everyone around you reinforces that it is. So yeah, I dunno, still haven't quit for good and dunno if I will. Philippine Adventures if you drank everyday but have been sober for a week that's all you need, just keep taking it one day at a time maybe read some stuff on soberrecovery.com forum. The hard part is when you are okay and your body has recovered (which happens fast) and you no longer have a reason to not get drunk again (because you feel good), so expect that and find a way to deal with it.

I liked this vid. I've been doing a lot of reflection over the last year about my previous alcohol consumption, and while I did go through phases of drinking every other night and sometimes every night or day when I had time off from work. I've realised that even when I limited my alcohol intake to only Friday and Saturday night, it was very much an all or nothing thing for me. It became a very bad habit and one I am happy to say doesn't exist for me anymore. Everyone has different ways they will go about cutting down and ultimately cutting out their alcohol consumption, but when I became more self-aware and got to really know myself, I realised that drinking to excess just wasn't me anymore.

I knew I was a moderate to heavy drinker starting at 23 when I finally admitted to myself all of the things you said in this video, and also started experiencing minor withdrawal symptoms alongside hangovers. I was able to cut back for a year, but the realization that looking at and drinking one drink caused me more anxiety than any problematic, erratic or violent student I work with (I work as a counselor) that I was an alcoholic. I've tried to quit drinking 6 or 7 times, sometimes for long periods, sometimes short, and have gone on enough benders for a lifetime. What really did it for me was knowing the fact that it was alcohol would be the death of me if I did not stop. And I mostly haven't done it for myself, I have done it for others who care about me. Four days ago I woke up in my boyfriends bed having the worst withdrawal symptoms to the point where I stayed up all night just to make sure I didn't die in myself and my boyfriend didn't have to find me dead. I can't this run my life. I'm fed up with myself. I'm on day 4.

1. Did you know that if a person is aware of the consequences of their actions and are accountable to the Creator, it helps him to avoid disaster. (Proverbs 22:3) "A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, But the simple pass on and are punished." (Proverbs 23:31,32) "Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls around smoothly; At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper." 2. Rejecting God's standards recorded in the Bible people are reaping the bitter consequences. (Galatians 6:7) "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." 3. But God is ready to help anyone who asks him about it. He promises to give us the necessary wisdom and strength so we can cope with the addiction. (James 1:5-8) "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." (Isaiah 40:29-31) "He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 41:10) "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' (Psalm 50:15) "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." (Psalm 62:8) "Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us." 4. See how a simple and free recipe. You and your friends and family will be able to apply it against any addiction! (James 4:8) "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded." 5. Tell me, are you ready to use this recipe and share it with others? Jesus Christ said, "Go teach all Nations." (Matthew 28:19,20) "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." 6. And yet, God promises to remove from the ground any pain and suffering and even death. Also God promises to resurrect billions of people. (Revelation 21:4) "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." (John 5:28,29) "Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth--those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation." (Acts 24:15) "I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust." 7. Would you like to see such a world? It is necessary to fulfill only two conditions, recorded in the Bible.

I'm on the border of alcoholism, I have to drink every weekend and every night before a day off, I get physical and mental cravings that I can't control......Alcoholism is in the family, my 2 older brothers, 1 grandmother and both grandfathers were all alcoholics (brothers still are). I'll occasionally get cravings whether physical or mental (or both) to drink on a weeknight which is really bad.....I have hidden empty cans and bottles from parents it's been like that for about 3 years, I'm only 23.......... But, last weekend something happened....after drinking three nights in a row, I didn't have the urge to drink on Saturday night, in fact I was completely the opposite, I got the urge and feeling not to drink which is strange with me, then Last night (I have a day off today) I didn't get the urge to drink and I don't have the urge to drink tonight.......Something clicked.......something happened.......I no longer feel like I have to drink, it's only been a week.....but let's see how this plays out.........I want to give up I want to quit. I was able to open up to my mum about it which is mainly who I was hiding it from before......I opened up as if it was nothing, it's like my body has finally had enough and said ok, "we're done, no more alcohol". It feels like my body is on my side, not against me, it was against me for so long, now it has started helping me. :)

Now 7 months later. I've moved, so much more opportunity and more to do other than drink. I've learnt to quit excessive binge drinking to moderation drinking, meaning 1-2 drinks a week- usually light alcohol content beer.. Play the tape forward they say. I drive to events, I've joined new clubs to make new friends, joined the casual work pool for variety, keep the mind entertained and to meet people. No more ANXIETY, no more DEPRESSION, no more DETOX!!... yeah I feel flat some days, but I get in the car and get the fuck out and do something! I hit the gym most days progressing well, body fat is up, but working on it. Best wishes for others looking to make the change, It does get better!! Cheers Mario! Fuck alcohol.

You really nailed it. I don’t have a raging alcohol problem, but it is like when I used to smoke, that I now see others smoking, taking time and energy away from things they need or want to do, to smoke. I know from experience that once a habit become so much part of your daily life, you no longer enjoy it or even think about it, just mindlessly drinking, smoking, playing the same video games over and over as a routine. I especially got the metaphors about how drinking and other bad habits take away from doing other things. I’m a cycling geek, have been for decades, but the last several years I haven’t been able to do it as much as I used to, and this caused all sorts of problems, including weight gain that I know I wouldn’t have if I rode more. But I’m drinking every day, as well as other daily habits that are bad for my overall health. I also feel embarrassed by my drinking. So now I’m thinking, how about every day when I would normally have a couple of beers or worse, I ride one of my bikes instead. I’m going to try that.

+JuztoKik Thanks bro, peer pressure plays a massive role and it's not easy to stay "No". One thing that helped me was knowing the limit, if you can't completely eliminate it have a clear limit in your mind like "2 drink within 24 hours if I'm out" and don't break that integrity with yourself. 2 drinks is enough to be social, and choose something low calorie and that's also not completely bad like red wine.

There was just this moment of complete clarity that alcohol will no longer be a part of my life. When I think of all the problems in my life they all associate with drinking. Onwards and upwards now. Time to shine and live my true potential. Now that is a feeling better than any drink 😊

Hi Mario, I finally and forever, stopped drinking just two weeks ago, I live in England U.K. In spite of drinking every day I still keep relatively fit, and have won medals at GB National Masters level over the last few years. I got pissed off with myself because the guys who are beating me don't drink, so I'm racing against them with the anchors on my legs! Not very helpful when cycling! So your analogy is perfect for me. I've not drunk excessively for a few years but I wasted so much time and money trying to be moderate, but as you say moderation is just way too difficult. I'm very excited for the future even aged 62! Thank you for this!

2:30 "He reached for the pack of cigarettes that is usually in his pocket, and then got pissed because the cigarettes WERE IN CONTROL OF HIM!" That is MY EXACT STORY of what made me eventually quit smoking cigarettes when I was younger. I was on the way home from work, as I passed the gas station, I reached for my pocket to see if I needed to buy more smokes, cause I knew if I didn't have smokes when I woke up, I would be heading out to the gas station just for that... Well BEING CONTROLLED BY AN INANIMATE OBJECT, a little stick, a little roll of paper and plant... WAS MY MASTER!!! HELL NO! That made me quit.

It's stuff like that, having 1 left & HAVING to stop or else,or seeing people standing outside in the sub zero temps to keep the nicotine levels up,or seeing the guy across the street outside every couple hours(out of bed) every AM(I have insomnia)…the ANXIETY of knowing I'll have to have another & another during work.. & how long will it be till i NEED another, 5 min,10 min ?. "Controlled " exactly ! "Slave" exactly..Smokes smell so damn good in the summer air, wafting from somewhere, the desire to have that giant satisfying inhale that expands your lungs a little, letting it go through your nose..Im lying if I denied missing it sometimes, but this stuff & the routine... absolute slavery despair..is what shuts that off when I mind fuck myself.I was looking at a cognac al cappone sweet in the metal tube getting a pop an hour ago..thinkin wouldn't hurt ? had to say fuck it ll together.

To the real alcoholics, and not just heavy drinkers. I am a dead set alcoholic, and joined AA on March 10, after a month in rehab. I've been drinking for decades and was completely powerless to it. It's not enough to just read the book. You need to join a group, attend the meetings, find a sponsor whom you trust and who will guide you through the 12 steps of AA, and you have to put your heart and soul into it. No half measures. It's worked for millions of people who are real alcoholics, not just heavy drinkers. Give it a go, you have everything to gain (your life), and nothing to lose. Good luck xox PS If none are open for face to face meetings due to Covid, there are plenty of zoom meetings to start off with.

Greetings. Excellent video Mario. You spit the real truth there. I have had alcohol problem as well untill i got pissed off at myself, just like you have. The real change is in the mindset. I did realize that booze slowed my progress down therefore I decided to get rid of it. I have implemented "a one beer rule". On any social meeting where alcohol is consumed I allow myself one beer only and that is it. Since then my life started to sprout with advantages. Better sleep, more testosterone, better gains but most importantly the sheer satisfaction I got from being in control of my body. There are more advantages from such a lifestyle, to name a few: physique change, confidence boost, looks from women etc. Keep up the good work Mario. Thank you. ps. "The Chimp Paradox" written by prof. Steve Peters.I suspect Mario has read the book. It explains how to gain control over your body.

You are so right about getting to the point of getting mad and saying enough is enough . That is exactly what I did . That day I put a calendar on the wall and concentrated on marking off an X on each day I had managed to not touch one drop of alcohol .I did not worry about quitting forever but only marking that X on todays' date . The first few weeks were torture but after that things got a bit easier as time progressed..Anytime I got the urge to drink I just remembered the "bad times" of getting wasted or passing out or being embarrassed .That cured the urge every time .After a few months I simply forgot to mark off the Xs - but by then I had pretty much lost that urge to drink and people I knew considered me as a non drinker . The same method using the calendar works with smoking too .I think the good thing about using the calendar is that you can actually see your progress. I quit late May in 2000 (18 years) and have never touched a drop since after 15 years of drinking .I don't miss the pubs and the especially the people in them since you are a product of the people you surround yourself with .

I've been drinking every day for 4 years. It's gotten to the point that my closest friends and my mom are worried about me constantly because they know my crutch. My rock bottom thus far is when I got blackout drunk yesterday and pissed myself all over the floor in my friends kitchen. I couldn't believe I did it, because I honestly didn't remember... And that fact that I couldn't recall my own persona acting so irresponsibly pissed me off. A couple months prior I puked on myself at a bar and got kicked out. Alcohol is no joke, to me, it is the devil. This video helped me a lot. I am going to try and quit. I say try because i dont want to be a hypocrite and this definitely isnt he first time I've said that. having friends and family that care definitely helps. Thank you.

I had been drinking from a very long time. In the beginning I was always in control and could restrict myself from consuming more. But eventually I got the feel of it and started to enjoy it almost at all times. From past 3 years it became a sustenance for me. I did not need a reason to drink, I could drink anytime anywhere. Eventually, I got so dependent on it that I could not leave without it. I felt for it so much that I could not sleep without drinking (a lot). Because of extreme drinking, a lot of unfortunate things happened with me. I got a really bad name because of it. People started avoiding me and making fun of me because of my stupid actions after getting drunk. Recently, I lost a close friend of mine because of my drinking habit and I don't think we can be friends anymore. And now, I am looking for ways to quit it. I think I can totally relate to the experience of yours, but, it is on a whole new level for me. I liked the way this video has been made with real and honest experience being shared with the viewers. I hope that I learn from my mistakes and quit this bad habit for good. Thank you Mario Tomic for the video.

Booze is a real nasty thing. I look back at the times it helped; having a laugh with mates, pulling girls. Then I look at the negatives. Losing girls, my driving license, jobs, self respect, the respect from my family, bad sleep, bad memory, depression, erratic appetite, erratic body temperate, weight gain, susceptibility to illness. It massively sucks but I still do it. Nothing like the same scale buts that's more to do with association, aka my mates are all hooked up & have moved on in their lives! Thank you for sharing & I'll try harder to have a better life. Not getting what you want from life comes down to 2 things. Either it just didn't work out..... or you just didn't try. I don't want to go to my grave with the latter on my conscience. Best of luck & love to everyone x

This video irritated me because I thought it was for alcoholics...This video is about some crazy college kids that fucking drink too much and will most likely get over it once they graduate or start working in the real world. The title was clearly click bait.

My good friend was found dead in her car, she drank herself to death in the Walmart parking lot almost a month ago. I am 21 days clean today. It's not a joke folks, it can and will literally kill you. Good luck and prayers to everyone, you guys can do this, we can do this! You are worthy, you are loved and you deserve to live a happy life. Using alcohol to hide insecurity surrounding communication with people/expressing yourself... nailed it completely there for me. And the alcohol just makes it worse, there is no progress, and when you aren't getting better, you're just depending on it more and more.

I really needed to hear this dude. I'm going through a very very rough addiction to Alcohol right now and have been for almost 6 months and I really want to quit but it gets hard but hearing your story really changed my mind. I can relate to everything you're saying, I'm trying to become a FireFighter right now and alcohol has been holding me back in the gym and has been destroying my sleep patterns lately. I will not lie that I have drank today to cure a hangover but last night I made a very big mistake and it's something I regret completely today but it made me angry and I'm going to use that anger to get me through this. From this day on I'm never going to drink again, I'm not going to let myself down. Thank you for this video my friend, it really helped me open my eyes, may god bless you and keep doing what you do. Thank you.

Thank you for this video, I love it. I would love to be the person who just does not drink also. I quit so many times but I always relapsed. It is very hard for me to stay completely without alcohol due to the environment I live in. I live in the Czech Republic where good quality world class beer is cheaper than soda or even water at times. And that's the truth both for restaurants and supermarkets. Czech Republic ranks #1 in beer consumption, there are so many breweries and competition, everybody drinks, especially now in the summer. People can legally drink in parks, on trains, just everywhere. I set dates for myself in the past, I stayed sober, let's say, for 20 days, I felt great and then somebody, for example, bought me a beer at lunch. That evening I told myself - well it was OK, the beer tasted awesome and definitely hit the spot, maybe I can buy one more in the supermarket for myself. The next day I bought 3 of them and the following day I bought 5. At that moment I was back with drinking and morning headaches again. How can I overcome this, it seems really hard for me. I would appreciate any motivating comments or advices. Thank you very much! :-) Martin

A lot of people find it hard to just drop substances cold turkey. That said, having things to focus on helps a lot. It has helped me get my drinking somewhat under control.
