I go on a plein air painting adventure to paint some roses, disaster strikes and I have to take it back to the studio, but unfortunately along the way I discover the truth about overworking your paintings. It’s easy to do and today we’ll talk about how to learn the lessons a painting has to teach you and how you can learn to avoid overworking your paintings. If you're new here my name is Danny Sabra. I am a self taught artist. I do a lot of #oilpainting, #pleinairpainting, #gouache and #watercolor painting, urban sketching, #penandink drawing and many other things! I upload tips on #paintingforbeginners and other subjects related to art and creativity. I like to do #landscapepainting, plein air, alla prima, as well as portraits of people and animal portraits. I believe every person has a creative voice that matters. and my goal is to empower everyone to share their creativity with the world! Subscribe for more #studiovlogs, plein air #paintwithme videos, #speedpaint and #urbansketching adventures!

Exactly! that’s the game we play though. stop too early and it could’ve been better, too late and you’ll ‘ruin’ it. Great vid and love the texture!

Nice painting. But omg! Those roses- that was heartbreaking to see them change so dramatically after just one day! That is the thing about plein air. As far as overworking, I was so sad when you completely covered your first layer. It had such gorgeous colors. I still think the painting is beautiful- and yes, perhaps next time limiting your experimentation to only one or two techniques or tools would be more wise. I also really loved the texture from the acrylic impasto underwater.

Thanks so much. I totally agree. I should’ve shown more restraint and when things weren’t working maybe wiped timings down, strategized and tried again. I was really trying to develop form without losing color but I didn’t really think things through and just keep trying over and over. I think there are things to like about it in the end and I probably could finesse it some more but I think this is one where it’s best to learn the lessons and move on. I agree about the texture! I want to do that more!

Ciao!
