I’ve been dealing with intermittent panic attacks for almost 18 years now. The feelings can be so intense and scary at times. Even if you know it’s only a panic attack and tell yourself that, it doesn’t always help alleviate the intense symptoms. What I have noticed is that my panic is most often triggered whenever I’m sick, or think there is something physically wrong with me. I also have co-occurring issues with health anxiety, so it’s very much tied to that. It’s so frustrating, because the feelings can come out of nowhere, and go on for days, weeks or months. It often feels so debilitating that I just pray to get through each day in one piece. I would never wish these feelings upon my worst enemy. People who have never experienced a panic attack, or who don’t suffer endlessly with them, don’t realize how lucky they are.

I swear this is what I was thinking right before reading your comment. “Wow, so many people are struggling with the same feelings I’m having. There ARE, people who know what I feel and would understand me.” I feel so alone, no one I know really knows what it’s like to feel panic almost 24/7. It started happening after a concussion and that was three years ago. Started getting better then I got covid. I do even remember who I was before. My whole life is based and worked around how I feel. I want my life back. But the worst part is people in your life thinking your full of it. The isolation and not having someone understand you at all is so heartbreaking. I hope others have found some comfort in these comments too. Sometimes knowing you’re not alone and just really being seen, makes a big difference. ❤

My first panic attack was three years ago, I went to A&E (Accident and Emergency in the UK) twice in 4 days. Luckily the second time I got a great junior doctor who said I'd probably had a panic attack. I have them more and more and my rational brain tells me I'm not dying. However, as we who suffer know, you're not rational in the middle of a panic attack. Like the video so astutely points out, my panic attacks are now fuelled by my fear of having a panic attack.

This CD has three separate relaxation/meditation sessions on it kzbin.infoUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq guided by a very pleasant and direct male voice. Unlike so many other products of its type, this CD does not have bad synthesizer music, does not feature a phony or affected style of narration, and does not make any bogus claims to be subliminal or to re-train the brain or any of that balderdash. What you get is 1. a guided meditation for getting into a pleasantly relaxed state of body awareness while taking a stroll (superb for those easing back into a fitness routine slowly after an illness or injury) 2. A nice long breath-awareness relaxation session that if followed diligently can put you into very deep states of full-body relaxation and mental calmness, and 3. a buddhist-inspired meditation session designed to help you develop and maintain feelings of loving kindness toward not just yourself and your friends, but toward people you don't even like. The CD makes no claims to be designed for advanced meditators or for buddhists or hindus/yoga practitioners looking for very deep and esoteric stuff. It is geared more toward the average person who just wants to develop the habit of relaxation and stress relief through natural, healthy means. him, if you happen to be reading this, keep up the good work fella, and I love your accent. I would also like to note that I have never fallen asleep while listening to this product. I would like to kindly suggest to the reviewer who said this CD makes him fall asleep, that he might want to get checked to see if he has a sleep disorder, or if he is simply not setting aside ample time for restful sleep at night. A healthy person getting adequate rest at night should be able to go into deep states of mental relaxation without dozing off, if not all the time, then most of the time.

I’m so glad you found this channel. I had panic attacks for a while back in the 90’s. I had a therapist who told me (when I felt it coming on during our session) to lie down on the floor and just let it come over me. That it was absolutely harmless physically and that by calling it’s bluff in a safe environment with a loving witness it would go away and not come back. He was right. Until this past month. My father died in my arms and while I thought I was strong enough to be there with him when he passed, it traumatized me in a profound way. Searching this new modality for help - lo and behold I find this charming therapist who has the same advice for me today that I received so many years ago. Thankful for the reminder and the memories of how well it worked. This will pass for all of us. This panic and anxiety does not have to be permanent in our existence and it does not have to define us! Peace to all who read this.

Does anyone else's panic attacks literally feel like they are going crazy and feel like you'll never get out of it?
@e_i_e_i_bro2 жыл бұрын
For whatever reason (possibly because my father is schizophrenic) I have intense fear that I'm going to hallucinate and go fully crazy during panic attacks. I've heard this thought is common. It does feel you're going crazy because it can feel like an altered state + physical symptoms. I get blurry vision like I'm in a dream and dizzy. Feels crazy for sure. Just know that panic attacks cannot cause you to be psychotic. That is a whole different disorder. these sensations are due to an overactive nervous system, not brain abnormalities that cause psychosis.
@TherapyinaNutshell2 жыл бұрын
I think that a lot of people do feel that way. one thing that may help is to label those as "thoughts" not feelings. ie "I'm having the thought that I'll never get out of this" "I'm having the thought that I'm going crazy" just because you think something doesn't mean it's true. Just because you feel a certain way, doesn't mean it's true.

This!! This is exactly what I needed to see and hear! I had a heart attack in 2012. In 2014, the anxiety, then panic attacks started…what if I’m having another heart attack, what if I die, maybe something else is wrong with me, maybe I’m about to have a stroke…on and on. I can’t tell you how much money I’ve spent, getting my symptoms checked out…therapy, 3 angiograms, medication, doctors upon doctors, etc. my most recent angiogram was performed just last winter. This doctor, when I told him about my anxiety and panic attacks (in order to avoid another costly procedure), asked me if I was a doctor? No. Then stop diagnosing yourself! So, another costly procedure, only to find Nothing wrong, again! Now I’m going to a different heart doctor, for the electrical part of my heart. I have nearly constant PVC’s, and PAC’s. I just took the week long heart monitor back yesterday. What do you suppose will be “wrong” with me this time? After watching the 3 part video, I’m going to say, “absolutely nothing”!! Thank you so much!! Woot, bring on the feelings, anxiety and panic attacks!! I’m ready to live my life again ❤️

Thank you so much for these 3 videos on panic attacks; I have struggled with panic attacks on the highway for two years now, and after watching these videos, today while driving I stopped trying to fight the fear but instead accepted it and kept telling myself: "it's mega uncomfortable, but I can still drive" and that helped enormously.....thank you, truly, from the bottom of my heart.

Today is the eight day of my anxiety loop. Yesterday I went to see a doctor, terrified and hoping to get some kind of answer or treatment, ANYTHING. This video -and all the other ones from the channel are incredible, thank you so much.

If the Dr checked you and you are physically okay then just know that you are okay and safe. Keep repeating that to yourself. Do some journaling see where this stress is coming from. Do mindfulness meditations, every few weeks I will do several different meditations in a row so that I do it for a total of 3 hrs or so. It really brings peace back to the body and helps stabilize

@@kellyemberson339 My anxiety loop lasted 13 days - I lost 5 kgs in a week, slept 4 hours in 5 days, vomiting everything i ate. I went to this doctor again and he told me to pray, that my anxiety would go away. I decided to go to the hospital and I was then injected with valium, which helped me to finally get a moment of sleep (I remember waking up on my bed, i have no idea how I got home but I FINALLY could think by myself, my mind was quiet). Looking back now, I am able to recognise that that was the lowest I've ever been emotionally. A week later I went to see a therapist (it lasted 3 months, god it's expensive!), the short time i got with the therapist was enough for me to see that my biggest issue was pushing my feelings away. I refused to talk with myself, to think and to feel, I treated my conscience as my enemy. Now I am able to admit things to myself, to ask questions: "what worries me about this thing?", "what am i afraid of?". In the beginning - meditation and taking walks.

Since last week's video, every time I've felt my anxiety or panic start to take off I've said to myself "Oh, it's just that anxiety/panic, no need to freak out, just gonna ride the wave and be ok", and I'd continue doing whatever I was doing at the time- eg- I tend to struggle getting a deep breath and then I start to REALLY feel panicked, but the last time it happened I remembered what you said last week and I stopped "fighting" for that deep breath and just breathed normally while thinking "Meh, it's just panic, no biggy, I'll be fine" (and I intention took smaller breaths)...this helped, not every time, but...baby steps. 😁

I’ve had anxiety for all my life but didn’t know what it was until about 6 years ago. The last few months it’s gotten worse and worse and I had to change medications. In the last two weeks I’ve barely left my house, haven’t worked and am constantly on edge. I found the anxious truth podcast on Spotify and I’ve already made progress. I left my house today for a few mins and was relatively okay, and working out hasn’t been as hard. I still get shaky and have that feeling I can’t get a full breath but its much better overall. I also started feeling like I wasn’t in control of my body like i was watching myself do things rather than doing them. With that podcast and now these videos I’ve found tonight I actually have hope again.

I think this is a really helpful video. When I had a panic attack in class and was looking for the ways to stop it, I was thinking like:"Not now! It's way too intense, I can't handle it, I should've just skipped that class today! What do I do now? Should I leave the classroom? But I just can't! It's so embarrassing!" and it just got way, way worse. It was so overwhelming and intense. But then I just looked down on the desk, stopped thinking of the ways I can immediately reduce my anxiety, just completely "surrendered" to it, and then it was just gone. I looked up and I didn't feel anxious anymore. At all. The intensity of anxiety just dropped completely. It's mind-blowing how this works.

Evening started GREAT - lots of fun and laughs with our kids and our dog, Then I took a hot bath and my heart rate became so fast and even faster the more I thought about it. Even though this was not my first panic attack I "forgot" that the best thing to avoid the panic attacks is to ignore them. Fear of the fear and checking and rechecking if everything is "safe and sure" is the worst cure, Ignore it.... Come what may. The less attention you give it the better. By ignoring them I was able to almost totally get rid of them for many years.

I’ve been an anxiety and panic attack sufferer for 40 years. I tried meds, which I hated. I had some success learning coping skills with different therapists over the years, but still didn’t feel like I had a grip on my disorder. Then, a couple years ago, I found your videos. Truly life changing! I purchased the course on retraining your parasympathetic nervous system during the 2020 Covid shutdown, which helped me find my sanity. Life gets busy, and I find myself taking care of everyone but me, and then those ugly anxieties start creeping in. The past month has been hard, and as I’ve been trying to turn my focus to my own health and well-being, I find myself drawn to your amazing advice. This particular advice on facing panic attacks, rather then trying to avoid them or trying to stop them, is SO thought provoking. I have a physical coming up in a couple weeks, and one of my biggest triggers is doctors offices. The part where they take my blood pressure and heart rate. The part that takes less than a minute. I fear the embarrassment of my rapid heart rate and spiked blood pressure, the comments from nurses who don’t know me, the worry that they’ll think something is really wrong with me and want to put me on meds, or send me to a cardiologist. The fear that they’ll think I’m a freak! After listening to these video, I suddenly look forward to facing it. Thank you for sharing all your wisdom.❤️ Having these positive affirmations and realizing I’m not alone, brings so much peace.❤️❤️

The fear of panic attack is not dying. It's living with the embarrassment of appearing weak to everyone you encounter. To some, this is worse than death.

You won't though, just like people don't drop dead from doing full on physical exercise pushing their heart rate up to 160bpm, it just feels scary because you're not actually doing anything physical at the time.....

Great Video. I have been suffering with anxiety and panic for 18 years now. Some seasons have been great, some really bad. I work with two mental health professionals to help me overcome. It really takes a lot of practice and intentionality to win this battle. I am far from overcoming, but I will never give up. Thanks for making an encouraging video about this life changing disorder. I know one day too, will be free.

I’ve been practicing this technique for the last week and I’m really surprised but it’s working! I feel like I have control of my anxiety and not my anxiety having control over me. When I feel panicky feelings I now say “it’s ok to feel anxious. Nothing bad is going to happen”, instead or trying to make it go away. Then after a few minutes the anxiety is gone! So happy I found this video what a good technique!

This was super helpful. Being a fresh out cardiac surgeon, prepping for my exit exam, trying to study with my cases, trying to find my place in the world, thinking of financial issues, balancing work-home life, balancing everything, all this was overwhelming for me and GOD knows I tried what not. From ruling out myocardial infarction to IBS to even thinking about GIT cancer, these intrusive thoughts almost pushed me over the edge, until l found this video on the youtube. I was all shaky, achy with dry mouth all the time and super anxious feeling about myself with my brain and thoughts amplifying every little pain like a mountain. I tried deep breathing and it actually made the thing worse. This video, about opening myself up to my feelings and my thoughts and accepting them and willing to get through them, really helped me. I know, i’ll keep on working on this. But now I know, My feelings can’t kill me, unless i let them..❤ Thank you so much

The number one advice all my therapists and psychiatrists have given me is to do breathing exercises. They never helped and the panic attacks kept coming back stronger. I’ve tried your technique yesterday and it’s the first time I actually feel hope in months. I’ve never imagined that it could get better. Thank you so very much for giving us access to bettering our mental health with your precious videos 🙏 Your work made a world a difference for me and many others I’m sure !

KZbin has been a Godsend for me for many things and videos like this have helped me understand my condition and how to remedy it more than my GP who is pretty useless. One of the best pieces of advice I've taken away concerning panic attacks and Panic disorder is try your best to not acknowledge you are having one. When you feel that ugly panic setting in, being alarmed by it, starting to excitedly breathe is acknowledging that something is wrong, when you feel something is wrong, panic begins to manifest, when it manifests is when it runs amok. Stop acknowledging you are having one as best as possible and reassure yourself that the feeling will pass, it's just my body trying to protect me is what I like to say "Oh I feel something, Meh whatever" or "Oh it's being stubborn today, cool".. I had my first ever panic attack at 43yrs of age, called 911, had an ER visit and was kinda stuck with panic disorder ever since. The date was March 1 2022. Today is September 1 2022 which is 6months and I while I haven't had a panic attack in 4months, I have had many "nearlies" and heart palpitations and general anxiety. I feel the "nearlies" are getting less and less and now it's at a place where I've brought it down to just a very manageable low level wave of anxiety that seems to be fleeting with time. Hopefully I will be better from this soon. Things that helped me. -Magnesium supplement - running (I'm an avid runner) - MEDITATION

thank you, you’re right. At night when laying down I’ll sometimes feel my heartbeat and think “oh no” I’m 54 and having a heart attack. Then I would start getting anxious worried and paralyzed with fear. Ive spent many visits over the years in the ER, only to have them tell me my heart is fine. Recently I noticed that deep breathing didn’t help but increased the heart rate. Last night I thought I might have to go to the ER, so I went to take a shower first, after the shower I felt better. Today while reading a book, I started feeling the attack coming on, I thought of the shower event and put the book down and started sweeping the floor and went on the stepper for five minutes. Movement helped me move past the attack. You are right, trying to stop or control the attack leads to an increased level and duration of attack.

As someone who had a bad panic attack on Sunday, I have been watching your videos and found them very helpful. Even though it took most of the days after feeling a little tense, I now kinda feel like how I was before it all started. Thank you so much for the tips and advice on how to at least manage your emotions and feelings of the body. Hopefully I can be at peace again fully once more.

I recently found your channel and I just want to say thank you ! You are 1000% correct - I’ve been dealing with anxiety and depression since I was 21 (46 now) I’ve learned some of these things along the way and I’m doing fairly well but the way you put it all together is awesome! And that it’s free - you’re helping so many people. Thank you for all that you do

I've never been one to experience anxiety but the last couple of years with healing from children, insomnia, and my father passing I had close to a panic attack. At times I still feel them rise but I have been doing this and it has helped sooo much!! I've also been starting to ask, "what are you trying to tell me?" Do I need more sleep, do I need to grieve for my father today? Need I need to slow down? Have I been more absent in my parenting? And weirdly but wonderfully I feel a rush of joy of listening to my body. And then I'm able to write down the emotions to release them. Congratulate myself with some yoga and cup of water or golden milk 😀

I have panic disorder. It is not “uncomfortable”, nor “embarrassing” - it has wrecked my whole life (from age 7 years to me, now, at 72., therefore I would call it “mind numbing terror”, “dread and unbearable fear of an unknown something” and the bane of my existence. They come throughout the night; un-invited at any moment (when I am out and having a lovely time or sitting and doing a loved hobby”….they arrive when I am driving, but they become a nightmare in hospitals or waiting for any medical procedure, or in waiting rooms, etc., I HATE ME because I have done ALL of the work, therapy and exercises and I am cursed with this poxy disorder! I am angry with me that I cannot control ME.

This is so helpful! I am pretty young, and I never wanted to tell people about how sometimes I have panic attacks or anxiety attacks, because I was never sure. I didn’t want to “bother” anyone, especially if I was lying to myself about my mental state. Even though now I realize I do have panic attacks, and that I have anxiety, I can hopefully decrease them, or feel better in the moment. 💗💗🥰
