NICE. If your tire was balanced before doing this, and or you break both beads, mark the tire to rim. When you go to air it up, line up those marks and you'll keep it in balance.

It was the common way of breaking those beads back in the day. We would balance the tires ourselves also. We would use an old axle to spin the tire. Mike has a lot of knowledge in all these things.

Last time I had tires mounted I asked for a_ sure seal_ pair of tires. They clean inside w/brush, or whatever powertools ..added glue around the tire bead / P225 45 18 Ford car. Charged me 90 USD including balance weights and mounting. 1 pr front axle This same place charges $60 to properly patch /plus plug a punctured tier. And re balance.

Good stuff as usual. Although unfortunately had to learn this one previously myself, as new sets of tires were coming back from the 'modern' tire shops with bead leaks..in fact I took my daily driver vehicle back in June for a set a week old, and they rewarded me by scratching the heck out of my rim, and leaving a bead leak! So I do them myself, and use the same technique except for using a fresh steel wool for the rim smoothing. But thanks for showing everyone this.

Had the problem on a 2006 Honda Accord with aluminum rims, took it to Discount tire (bought the tires there about 3 years before) and they did what you did, but took off the tires (2) used air tools to clean up. Never had a problem, and they did it for free! Thanks! Jim PS......best oil......the one that’s synthetic, meets the SN or SN plus rating and is on sale! The above 4cyl. car went to 170,000 miles before I sold it (with no problems, what so ever), oil changes every 6,000 miles. Trans oil changes with Honda fluid every 30,000 miles. This car went over 200,000 miles before it was totaled on black ice.

It's a good idea to keep a ratchet strap in your vehicle for when the bead won't seat. Wrap the strap around the perimeter of the tire and crank until the bead gets as close to the rim as possible. Works best if the core is removed during this process to inject a larger volume of air that forces the bead toward the rim. Once the bead is set, reinstall the core and inflate to correct pressure. Keep fingers away from bead during inflation!

Tire beads are where I find most of my troubles. Snowblowers, lawn tractors, hand trucks, wheelbarrows, most small rims aren't made for a tubeless tire but the manufacturers don't seem to care. So I pop the bead and glue the bead on to ensure it stays put and wont leak.

My dads 2023 Silverado , had a leak i couldnt find, it would leak upto 30 and not leak , I tried soap water, changing valve stem etc, my dad takes the truck to the dealership, they recommended a new tire , dad approves after $490 got new tire. I told my dad to bring the old tire home, i forgot about reseating the bead, so i removed a good tire from his truck , took it to a tire shop had them swap with the tire that was replaced with new. Told to tire shop to check for leaks, they said no leak , Installed it, No issues. Chevy Dealer was a Chief and most of them are. Thanks for the tip

Had this problem after new tires were installed. Kept having to add air ever week and a half or so. Took back to tire shop to get oil changed and told them to check a see why tire would need air so often. Charged 20 bucks to clean oxidation off wheel. Question is if the tire shops know this is a problem why were they not cleaned as part of process when installing new tires? The rubber valve stems should be replaced when new tires are put on also.

I vote Amsoil. They have there tiers and I have used the top line offering (green cap) for a very long time with never a problem. Out is also one of the very few that is a real synthetic, unlike Mobil 1 that dropped their real synthetic oil years ago. If it says "full synthetic" it is actually made from crude. Amsoil is one of the few Group 4 oils (real synthetic) and most of the rest are Group 3, engineered crude oil. For those who don't believe it, check it out. Red Line is another real synthetic but I've never used it. The reason they can claim Group 3 oils are synthetic when they're not is due to a court ruling in a case between Castrol and Mobil. Once again, the consumer gets screwed.

I love these simple fixes so great video. The wheel sometimes stands up when you drive on the sidewall so place a block of wood under the other side of the opposite sidewall. This helps push the other side bead into the mid groove at the same time so both beads can break together. Tyre higher so drive on over a ramp board. If the tyre is tight on the bead then deflate and spray detergent water in thru the valve stem to lube the bead from the back

If you haven't got a supa--dupa-hi-pressure air line you can remake the bead by looping a noose of 1/2 inch rope around the tread. Stick a pry bar in between rope and tire and twist. As the rope corkscrews up it'll squeeze the tread down and the walls will go out then pump like crazy. If you haven't got any bead sealer then once you've reinflated the wheel run a bead of clear, flexible silicone from a caulking gun around the joint and smooth off with a wet finger. Did this on my daughter's car as a "temporary" fix. Three years later when she went in to get new tires it was still holding!

Great video, Sweet Projects Cars! I have been looking for an easy way to break the bead on my 2004 Denali tires, so I can replace the Autel 315MHz MX-Sensor Wireless Programmable Universal TPMS Sensor on each tire. This will do the trick. Saved me all kinds of money on tools I didn't need. Many thanks!

THANKS again for all your informative videos. I would add that you need a fairly robust air compressor that has enough volume/pressure to start the bead to seal on the rim. I would also recommend leaving the valve core out until the bead is fully seated and then screwing it in as it will allow much more air to flow through the valve stem. It can be easily installed with the air escaping out of the stem or you can let all of the air out once the bead has fully seated.

I put motul 15w50 in my yamaha. Seems to work well. Also great job on the video my dude, I've been having this issue, 2 days and my tire is flat, the tire shop guys keep telling me to get a tube in there or get a new rim. Gonna try this since my rim isn't bent but she's a little old so there must be rust and gunk on the bead after 10 years of road use. Thanks once again

Little update, the rear rim is doing well with the gunk cleaning, havent had to put in air in a month. The front though is not, it's got a bunch of little bends along the rim and is either gonna need replacing or a tube. 1/2 is not so bad though. Thanks for the video bud

I work at a tire station cost $4 on/off vehicle $10 for rim cleaning $3 valve stem $8 plug $12 patch Usually not to expensive but I agree most shops are out to make $$$ and don't use mounting compound to prevent the bead corrosion👀

i'm 68 live in minnesota dealing with this problem all my life, i bought a manual tire changer and a sand blaster, i remove the tire and wire brush the area of the tire that seals, clean the inside of the tire, sand blast the area of the rim that seals, clean, and paint with rust-oleum, let cure overnight and remount, now it is worry free.

the absolute worst offenders for rim corrosion have got to be any Chrysler/Dodge alloy (especially the 18-20" truck variety). I'm not sure what's in that alloy that corrodes more than anything else on the planet but grinding/bead sealing seems to be the only fix). The alloy stems on the pressure monitors are made of the same junk it seems. Thanks for the great videos!

$20 I WISH! My local tire shop charged me two kidneys and a first born to pull all 4, scrub them down and put them back on. They neglected to mention that they were going to charge a pull off rim charge, and a put on rim charge, and then a rebalance charge x4 tires. They only quoted me a $ amount to scrub the rims down to which I agreed. TOTALLY SHAFTED!
