Worry is something that our brains like to do because on a subconscious level we believe the worry is helping us in some way. On a conscious level, being in a frequent state from worry not only feels terrible, it also takes us away from being more present, happy and at peace. In this talk I teach you 4 research backed ways to stop worry in it's tracks so you can feel more calm and grounded no matter whomever or what ever is going on around, or inside of you.

“ scheduled worry time” kind of like Scarlett O’Hara’s from “Gone with the Wind” film approach - “ I am not going to worry about it today. I will worry about it tomorrow. “

I always write down my thoughts and worries. I tell myself I've been through worse and got through it. I can handle it.

Hi Julia! Senior Shifter Chris here! Thanks for the follow up KZbin video on worrying. How To Stop Stressing, Obsessing & Worrying: 4 Ways that Work I like the idea of scheduling time for worrying. To me, that also seems like the right time to also take these other steps during this schedule time. I can sit down ask myself what I am worrying about and write those thoughts down, then move on to step 2 and ask myself those questions to make a plan about what I would do if “such and such” happened. Then give myself that compassion as I wrap up my schedule worrying time. I may need to try to implement this some time. Here are my notes: Recap: *Our brain makes up good reasons why we worry. It thinks it serves a purpose for survival. 4 Ways That Help Stop Worrying: 1. First take a step back, breath and ask yourself, "What am I really worried about and is this a likely threat or this my brain being overzealous? " Is it a real threat or just a habitual thought?" Is it a real threat or just a habitual thought?" Use mindfulness if is just a habitual thought. 2. To actually answer the question: "What if?" *"What will I do?" *"How will I handle it? " *"What are my options?" *"How will I get through it?" *As soon as we try to answer the question, worry loses its power. *Take a pen/pencil and paper and actually write down what is the thing I am worried about and what I will do if it happens. What are my options? What is my plan? 3. To schedule time to worry. Tell our brain not to worry about something in a moment we don't want to and give it time and space to do so later in a scheduled time. Giving that permission and space to worry at another time can help clear our heads and help us focus on the present. 15 min or so once a day. Set an alarm. 4. "Get Curious." *What is really going on here? *What is this really about? *What is the vulnerable spot or insecurities? *Offer yourself compassion while asking these questions. "I know this feels scary…" "I know this feels vulnerable.' or "It is understandable that I am worrying about this…etc.…" "I am here for you. I care about you. I support you. I will figure this out. We have been through hard things before." "We can take it one step at a time like we have before."

I have been this way my whole life, obsessed with safety and preparing myself for the worst. I didn’t walk until I was two, not because I couldn’t but because I was so cautious. My dad worked with me every day on it after he got home! 😭 It does affect you and those around you greatly. My kids are adults and I am always bracing for them to be in a car wreck. My heart races every time my kids call or text. BUT, today is my very first EMDR session to work toward getting this under control. Talk therapy helps but it was time to level up. Great timing, thanks for this!

This is the first time I've heard of a 'what if' exercise such as this. And this exercise would be best to engage in during a scheduled worry time! Not just randomly throughout the day. That might drive you nuts.

I might suggest gratitude: find every evening 3-5 things you are grateful for (even if "only" the roof over your head, the grunning water in the tap, the washing machine, the car, bike, the electricity, the stars, the sun, the earth...) it will ground you better. You might add asome music right before the worrying time, preferebly use "I am so worried about it" from Monthy Python", it should help to take the drama away from the worry 🤞😅 Taking yourself up and stopping from worrying each and every time and obliged yourself to think about something positive untill worrying time is in... 🤗💖❣️

I sometimes worry about my anxiety peaking. Going outside can sometimes feel daunting. However, I remind myself that I have been to different places and I am okay. I would like to try the first one, "is this a real threat or just an overactive brain? If it is just an overactive brain, how do I want to calm myself?"

I worry about not being able to sleep, i'd be awake 24 hours, i just keep worrying that i will never feel sleepy enough to just dose off and sleep well, what if i never sleep and then go crazy ?? What if i get a heart attack or a stroke ??, I put my head down on the pillow and i just get this jolt of energy despite all the exhaustion.. im just really desperate it makes want to die, im always asking god to take my life, when ever i put my head down the movie starts and my brain just goes full throttle it scares me and im just constantly living on the edge and there is nothing for me to hide behind i feel helpless..then with all this sleeplessness i try to enjoy some music or video games im so sleepless i feel numb, my back just aches and i get this burning sensation..God please have mercy on my soul!!! Just please take my life or make it better!! Just cant enjoy anything, everything is dark and scary..

Are you sure you aren't a mind reader, Julia? 😁😅 But seriously, this is totally me. I obsess, worry and over worry. I feel it comes from my late mother. She was the type of parent who always taught me to think ahead, plan things out, be prepared. But for me personally, I have found doing that starts me worrying, obsessing and then end up not accomplishing anything.

Hi Julia, thanks for the awesome video. I like the idea of scheduling a worry period. We can worry as hard as we want. We can study and evaluate whatever we are worried about. Have a regular time to do our worring, just like study hall in high school. Keep up the great work work!
