This is a great drill. I’ve massively improved my distance control by becoming more mechanical in my approach. As someone awful at distance control, with a consistent swing, I started to bring my putter head back to the middle of my right foot for a 5-6 ft putting, about 2 inches outside my right foot for an 8 footer, etc. This also helps as the green speed changes, because my round-warm up sees how far a putt goes on the practice green from my physical markers, as so I don’t mentally move the marks when out on the course but adjust the distance they go. I then saw Bryson DeChambeau with a marked ruler he uses when practice putting, which is the same sort of idea. I hope that makes some sense but will build this drill into my practice! Thanks

Thanks, Allan. That's a good strategy. Wherever you can do to improve distance control will help you reduce your number of putts. I hope that combining your strategy and this drill works. Let me know

This is a really good point Sue and I like the drill. I suppose that getting the speed right on the chosen line (and therefore the distance) increases the chance of holing, as well as reducing 3 putts.

Exactly. It's not very exciting, but good putting is just about minimizing mistakes.
