There are many positive minded RTS streamers. For example TheViper from AoE2. But I've noticed they all have a similar approach to stay positive while improving. So this approach actually works!

This video is priceless. These lessons I've learnt so late I wish someone would've introduiced them to me earlier. And the fact is that even if you process these lessons won't prevent you from forgetting or falling, having a reminder from time to time is so helpful and meaningful. I believe we underestimate so much the importance of emotions in our lives and focus too much on knowledge and accomplishments. Thank you for sharing your kindness and meditative-like mindset. 🙏❤

A book I read on tennis has a similar sentiment to you about setting goals or "side quests". When entering a (gaming) session, if you set goals to practice a particular aspect of the game, there are only two outcomes: You lose the match but you were able to practice what you set out to (success) You win the match and you were able to practice what you set out to (double success) By focusing on external goals outside of winning and/or MMR improvement, you can always find reasons why matches were worthwhile and enjoyable even if you lose. Thanks for everything Grub, you are amazing.

When I was 4 or 5 years old, I was learning how to ride a bicycle on a small deserted stadium, my father be helping me. The learning process consisted of me riding ahead and my father holding the back of my bicycle so that I don't fall. At some point, I looked back and realized that he's not there anymore, having left me about a hundred meters ago. Of course, I fell the same second. Just a small story I remembered because of the introduction ('context'). That was the day I learned how to ride a bicycle, and not to trust even my family.

Speaking about the goals, I feel like the second I understood that not everything in the game is up to me the ultimate goal of winning simply disappeared. My goal is and was for the longest time just to play as well as I can, and if I can do plays that would gain my own approval in the hindsight - that's my win, no matter what happens with the game outcome. It doesn't quite preserve me from being affected by my team, of course: there are countless things you are just not allowed to do while being on the losing team, so sometimes it gets boring (when you just have to sit back and wait for something, because you're 'not allowed to play the game'), and if many games go like that in a row, it's still tilting. But I do think that it impacts my mood much less than it would impact the mood of someone who's only interested in winning.

When I used to play ranked Dragon Ball Fighterz, I noticed that the more matches I played, the more I tended to lose, and usually the first matches were wins. I created a rule for myself, that I would only play 2 matches per night, so as to avoid the performance drop and subsequent tilts (which in turn, decreased performance further). My rank started growing faster than before. Now I'm setting myself on a new learning journey with WC3, which I bought this week, thanks to watching so many of your videos, Grubby! Thanks for this and all your other videos!

This is a great video to share to my friends. I genuinely get annoyed that sometimes they just blame other people in their team because they lost, but I could never find the right words to convey this to them. I'm not saying I'm tilt proof as I do get tilted although it is very rare and probably because I had a bad day, in which case I don't even play games at that point, but it's still nice to have something to share to my friends and hopefully they stop being toxic.

Thanks for this video Grub, I don't play RTS or Dota competitively anymore, just for fun, but I do play rhythm games more competitively and I got stuck into a mindset of "I don't care anymore", I needed this reminder of the fun on the game itself and the fun on improving. I realized this like a couple of years ago and I rised my skills on it, but then I think I lost my sight of it and I think it's recoverable. Thanks a lot for this and for all the fun I have watching you both on WC3 and Dota. Have a nice day ☺

I usually have trouble on playing competitive games and ended up being toxic on my teammates because of my mindset that anyone is good at playing because they play. When I lose the game, I ended up playing another match to clutch a win realizing that I keep losing my time but not taking an action to solve. This help me to reflect on my past decisions and manifest my goals on what is really worth at the end of the day. Thank you Grub!

Hey Grubby! You are my hero and want to let you know that there are many people like me who wants you to keep your work even though you also really shouldnt hesitate to take a pause to regain creativity! Its amazing how you kind a effortlessly play warcraft but in fact it is a skill processing from constant learning of your faults and improving your mindset to get that level of freedom where you can choose different ways to win or even have fun to lose. Games may be just a simulation of life but adapting the winning rules to real life and accepting failures to laugh at yourself or appreciate the efforts of your opponents may also a purpose of that very simulation. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Cheers

Great video for the mass gamer public Grubster. I’m around your age, I turned 36 recently. And I am a wc3/dota/CSGO player for life. As a “lifer” it is so important to incorporate all these mental skills when dealing with the ups and downs of being a pubber, especially in these particular games. Due to the level of competiveness worldwide and notoriety that keeps growing. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Raging/tilting doesn’t help at all. Positivity prevails in a healthy gamers mind!!

Uitstekende video, meneer Schenkhuizen ! Zo onwikkelen we ons breder dan "slechts" als gamer.... :-) Everything outside oneself is a reflection of yourself. If you smile at the game, the game smiles back - its a mirror of you. And anything you said is not only about gaming, the game can be replaced with your work, doing an exam, and up to a certain extent to dealing with a breakup, or loss. If I am in an argument with someone, focus on myself. What is happening inside of ME. This other person is not the cause of my emotions or anger - the emotion is inside of ME and must have come from there. The person can do the exact same thing to someone else, and they might get triggered (or not) completely different, with different emotions. That shows that it is all inside of ME, and this other person is just someone who pushes the switch that is already in ME. Very interesting topic! Keep up the good work!

Very nice video Grubby, thank you, I really liked it ! What you said is a good remember that the voyage and the present moment are essential in life, way more than the destination. The real victory is more about adjusting our mindset living the present moment to the fullest. Thanks for this video grubby, I needed this wisdom for both my gamer life and studies in university xD keep making the good content man ! PS : I had wc3 as a child but never trully got into it besides the campaigns, and so even now as I try I find great difficulties in actually playing because of my very limited skill in micro/macro and knowledge of items, unit preferences and such (I grew up into more of a monster hunter player in the end) but I still had some interest in wc3 because the game is actually good and there's so much potential, and so you were in some sense a way for me to experience the game to a higher level without playing it myself. I watch your videos while having lunch or during breaks from studies and really enjoy your creativity and positivity, so thanks for making wc3 content and making it fun and entertaining :) ! Rambling comment warning. I've tried to approach games in this way for a long time. I usually end up losing interest in pvp games, not because of lack of skill necessarily, but because the fun is coming in diminishing returns and I'd rather just move on to the next experience. I find that cooperative gaming is a much more entertaining and long lasting outlet as a result. Something like Vermintide still allows plenty of room for improvement and learning leading to plenty of fun along the way. While I'll always have a bit of interest in pvp gaming, running into others who take it so seriously that they turn it into a negative experience for themselves and others will really take me out of it if I haven't already grown weary of the content on my own over time. Regardless of skill level though, teaching others and helping them on their own journeys in small or big ways is a great experience on its own and certainly puts one in a better mood whether it's cooperative or competitive gaming. Even for a single player game, tips and advice for others can go a long way and there's always ways to challenge yourself for fun with "house rules" (like speed running for example) to make any experience interesting and fun if you've decided that the content is still worth exploring. Finally, I love that Grubby mentions stoicism. Big ups for that! 👍
