I feel like when that realisation hits you that ‘other people don’t care what you look like or what you wear because they’re only thinking about themselves and worrying about people judging them’ you can feel free of the shopping to impress mentality. It’s similar to going to the gym for the first time, nobody in there is judging you because they’re in for the same reasons. Have a great day everyone 🙏🏻

One thing I heard a while ago in a yoga class from a teacher: saying "no" to something is saying "yes" to something else. I think that's a good quote for your video today. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts - they're very valuable to me!

I'm currently doing a "no buy year" PS5 game CD purchase challenge. I've now reached the 8th month where I haven't bought a single game. During this time, play old PSP games, PS4 or games that I have on the PC. I'll keep going! I love this challenge! 🙂

I ignore ads and close my ears to the incessant noise😊 Every time I hear or read the words ‘must have’ I automatically think ‘useless stuff’. I buy second hand, I use things until they break and can’t be repaired. I sew, knit and crochet, I cook and bake and love DIY. I live in Denmark, so public transportation and my bike get me from A to B. 😊👍🏻

We all have one thing in common, planet Earth. Anything you buy takes away a resource from the earth. Therefore, I buy needs, not wants. Materialism has become a disease.

It's a deep seated socially engrained mindset that stems from insecurities and social pressures. It's not easy to change overnight but you can change with focused intentions and changing bad habits with good ones. What has helped me alot is tracking every single expense. It's an eye opener ❤

Such helpful wise nuggets Seve. I resigned from my job 2 months ago and am actively looking for a job. In the meantime, I've been a decluttering fool, working towards Minimalization. I LOVE shopping! And so while I've cut my spending down drastically, I still find myself searching for cheaper things to "help with my organization." I am considering taking on the no spend for the month of August challenge. Financially, I need to do it. But I don't think I've ever gone a whole month in my life without buying something unnecessary. This video has really helped me to see the beauty of not needing to purchase things. I want to focus more on connections! Thank you for your encouragement and example, to do so!

I am not a shopper/spender, but I do sometimes go for the dopamine hit of buying something non-essential. When this hits me, I go to the thrift store. It's hard (for me) to overspend there. Possibly set yourself a "spend budget" instead of "no spend". Maybe $20 for the month or something.

Good thing is that I always got really bored by shopping. In my life the greatest frugal choices have been living in small apartments, not travelling outside Europe and not flying, chosing electricity from wind-shares (not a huge initial investment), and not having a car. I used to say: if you refuse a car you are able to buy a new bike every month, instead, as you save so much money. (Of course I have only bought one new bike in my life...) But now my hubby and I have a second-hand EV, for I can't bike and walk much anymore, for reasons of health. It is cheaper to use than public transport, but was an investment up front. A good principle is to never use credit when buying things, but to save first, possible exceptions being taking loans for studies and the first home of your own.

That is me, I relaly want S24 Edge phone but I don't actually know if buying it with installement for over 18 monthes would be even worth it. Its over all just smart phone and I know more likely I will just scroll through it. Good battery? well I barley use my phone due to work. What is it offering honestly? I think controlling how you feel toward stuff helps. I used to get excited for expensive stuff and see reviews and like ot see people say "best phone ever" and such. Not any more, I realised I pay too much money to impress people I don't even know.

First, I’m a natural minimalist. However, even though I live on a very strict budget I do have occasional wants therefore I have rules. Rule 1 what is the cost of upkeep? Rule 2 why do I want this? Rule 3 did I go back and look at it three times? If the answers are 1 little or nothing, 2 I find it beautiful, uplifting or educational AND 3 yes, then I get up off of the money.

Getting away from advertising seems impossible. I get constant texts and emails and even in streaming shows. Websites with things like recipes on them are covered up in advertising. You can unsubscribe all day long but it keeps coming. I don’t buy from these things but it feels like a physical onslaught almost. Very visually stressful.

Make a list. If there are things you need, put it on a list. You need new tires, put them on the list. You need shoes or underwear, put it on the list. Now you have an on going list of things you NEED. You know where to spend when you have extra money, tax return, bonus or a raise.

So is having any possessions ok with this lifestyle? Collectables? Pets, any jewelry? Or is it just the clothes on your back? Any electronics? This sounds like it sucks. I do agree that you will save alot of money but what’s the point of life if you can enjoy certain things? I do think that there’s a limit to things you should buy stuff.
@SunnyKindJourney3 ай бұрын
Totally it is okay! Minimalism is about finding out what brings value in your life (utility, joy, etc.) and then removing the rest. What is useless clutter for someone can be very valuable for someone else. Some people who live frugally or are minimalist can have very little possessions and avoid buying anything, and some others buy more because they feel they need those. I think the bottom line is acquiring and keeping only things that after thoughtful self-reflection you know make your life truly better. Hope this clarified things :)
