A Newfoundland pulls on walks Because you are walking too slow and the leash is too tight & short. 😎Anna Penrod

It would be a good idea to invest in a longer leash and,a collar that is not a chain link...A chain link collar pulls on the thick, long neck fur of your Newf. (I wish this expert would learn to talk slower and quieter. He gives me a migraine headache)

What are your thoughts on the gentle leader? It goes over the snout. My mom used to for her Shepherd and seems to work well. Just wondering if it would work for a Newfie too.

My almost 9 month old walks perfectly in our neighborhood, he loses it when I take him out. It takes him 30 min to calm down. Would you recommend playing with him before taking him out so he’s tired?

Prong collar. Yeah, Imma nope out right there. I've had Newfoundland dogs for 20 years and frankly, prong collars, regardless of how "properly" they are deployed are nothing short of abuse. I took in a dog on Saturday that pulled me off my feet exactly as you described. It's the following Monday and he now walks to heel. No need for "physical correction" (hitting the dog: call a spade a spade) just patience, instruction, reward and consistency. I'm not convinced you've ever even met a Newfoundland: "All footage or pictures used is my own or legally purchased. . . . . . ."

Do you have a newfoundland and if so how many years have you been involved with the breed? Just curious.

I need to subscribe to the boot camp for my Newf. He’s a good boy and learned a ton of neat things from 8 weeks old. However he has become rambunctious and rough on my 4.5 year old twins and is insatiable appetite and constant search of the countertops and end tables in search for food in which he is often successful (Kids). He’s now 9 months old and 135lbs doesn’t pull but doesn’t walk heel either. I’m assuming the boot camp is a good place to start?
