Join former WBC Light Heavyweight champion Ben Johnston as he explains how to punish opponents that catch your kicks in Muay Thai.
Kicks play a significant part of Muay Thai, therefore catching kicks to the body is a common occurrence (especially among more skilled fighters). An excellent way to ensure that your opponent thinks twice next time before grabbing your leg is to punish them for it.
How do we do that?
By delivering a blow to the face left open due to the defensive hand now holding your leg. This can prove to a game-changer in a fight, especially if your opponent is not well-versed in defending kicks other than catching them.
Having the freedom to throw kicks if and when you need them allows you to provide your opponent with all sorts of puzzles to solve, not only are they going to be concerned with the kicks themselves but also what you may be setting up behind the kick. Don't let yourself be neutralised due to your leg getting caught a couple of times, punish them for thinking it was a smart move.
This simple method shared in this video can strongly discourage your opponent from catching your leg when you kick the body.
