My most successful method for getting coins into albums that are a very tight fit (especially when new): Look in you pocket change and find a similar coin with the same denomination/size- place this coin in the album first (by whatever means necessary). I let it sit for about 5-10 min before taking it out and replacing it with the coin meant for the spot. Makes it WAY easier!

The nice thing about the Whitman or Littleton coin albums (Barnes & Noble) is they fit perfectly into a quart sized food saver bag and can be vacuumed sealed keeping all the air out. Wear a mask so your coins do not get COVID-19

I live in central Florida and have a Whitman Classic Book of Silver Eagles that was exposed to tremendous humidity, due to it was stored in a plastic tub in my old motor home, that had been parked for quite some time. When I finally decided to retrieve the tub I discovered the roof air conditioner had been leaking every time it rained which is quite often here in Florida.What I found was the most beautifully Book Toned Eagles I had ever seen.Blues and rainbow colors permeated the rims and bled into the fields in a lovely fashion...I often wish I could recreate the affect on some of my other coins but would rather not experiment with them...Thanks once again for your insight and experience !

Easy to get free silica packets. Ask a local furniture dealer. A decent sized silica pack is most likely in the box of every piece of furniture they have shipped to them. Instead of throwing them out, ask the dealer if he can have his workers throw the paklets into a box for you. I did this and within a month had more than I will likely ever use. If the dealer pays for trash removal by the pound, this also helps them out. Plus the silica ends up being used instead of in a landfill. Win-win-win! Your coins will thank you 😄

Great info! In the electronics industry we always avoid storing components with silver-plated contacts or leads anywhere in the presence of kraft paper (cardboard). The sulfuric acid used in processing paper outgasses hydrogen sulfide when exposed to moisture - and can tarnish the silver plating.

@@lincolnmicrophonellc "Super calendered" Kraft insulation paper is acid-free - processed without the use of sulfuric acid. It's also typically used only for oil-filled or very low-price commercial transformers which would be unlikely to use any silver in their construction other than maybe Sn96 solder. This comment kind of surprised me - as it happens I own a small military transformer company..

I have only been collecting pre-1970 mint state or what we call brilliant uncirculated british coins for one year so far and not a single change in toning on any of my coins so far. I then put my album's in a Ziploc with a dehumidifier. I made the jump to 1-1/2 by 1-1/2 cardboard flips for 1-25 cents you can get 30 to a page and the holes punched in are more consistently sized. I GOT the idea about a year ago to put my slabs like you showed in a Mylar sleeve used for baseball cards and then seal them with a foodsaver

The section 2:40 regarding coins that are extremely difficult to get into a slot of a "cardboard" folder. I too have had many problems with this over my 50 years of collecting. Here is my easy-to-do method: place one edge of the coin you want inserted into the correct slot you want the coin in. Take a clean washcloth, fold it into quarters (fold twice), and place it over the coin. Take a hammer, and gently strike the coin till it is wedged in tight in the slot. This works wonderfully, and does no damage to the coin. And I guarantee that coin will not be popping out of that slot anytime soon! I hope this helps for all watching this video.

50+ years ago, thought I had bought one of the best, Whitman slides for my Lincoln Cents. Placed many a shinny MS coins in it then; half a century later, yup, they done got toned out. I assumed it was the Album at fault [desert climate here] and you appeared to confirmed this; therefore, two [2] questions here [first time to ask a question in a myriad of Comments to you] and TYVM for your valuable time Daniel: 1. Did the unknowing [me et al] buy "acidic[?]" 'cardboard' holders [liability here?] which you mentioned causes toning, but did not specifically state acidic, but referenced the cardboard only and 2. Are the latest Whitman's et al acid free and if not see number 1 above [liability for damaging countless coins]; this is a major manufacturer of these Albums that should have known better.

@mysterybuyer37383 жыл бұрын
@@everettwhite9874 I would say it depends what you store in them. My kind of coins are only for the copper. They are nothing special just copper weight. I have to say that it will draw moisture so you will want to add a moisture packet. And I would not store anything really valuable where condition is a priority. Otherwise it's been working well. It's been about a year now.
@michaelshields59215 жыл бұрын
Just a random thought running through my head. If you have coins your just going to store for the future without dragging out or maybe you want to. Set them in the 2x2 or flips or what have you and then vacuum seal them you can write on the outside what it is and still see the coins. Doing multiples at a time full sheets for a example. You can label them for grand kids, who ever you want to have them in the future, write what you bought them for and 20 years down the road see what they are worth. Just make sure your wife says you can put some in the bottem of the chest freezer. :) have a good day coin friends.

I have a point on the difference; 1) Investment/Numismatic coins or 2) Fun collections (Circulated coins).. I agree, if you are in the first group you MUST take all care to ensure minimal impact on the coin. If you are in the second group take care to not damage the coin IF IT IS NOT DAMAGED ALREADY. This topic comes up with people who metal detect - Clean it or leave it alone. If not cleaning it means you cannot tell what you have then MINIMAL CLEANING WITH NON-ABRASIVE methods then clean it until you can tell what you have THEN STOP. IF it has a possibility of high numismatic value then SEND IT TO A PROFESSIONAL. Thanks for the information. This is just MY opinion and in no way endorses cleaning or not cleaning. That is a personal choice and YOU must live with the consequences of YOUR choice.
