Don't be alarmed if you find your dahlia tubers dried and shrivelled after Winter storage! This happened to me and I almost threw them on the fire (they were very dry!!) but instead, I soaked them in water for a few hours and replanted immediately. They grew and flowered prolifically, as if nothing were amiss. They were as good as ever - almost miraculously so.

After just the beginning of this video, I'm not only coveting your dahlias, I'm lusting over your moldy terra cotta pot collection. Now to go look up what 5-10 degrees Celsius translates into Fahrenheit. Thank you again for bringing us in o your stunning gardens and sharing your knowledge with us.

For those of us who have emerged from the winter slumber to find our stored Daliahs rotten or dried up what I'm trying out this year is setting a monthly reminder on my phone to check on the dahlias. Hopefully I can catch any signs of decay early enough to take corrective action. Fingers crossed, there will be no surprises next spring. Bonne chance friends.

Such a good idea, going to do that right now. I've just spent the day putting Gladiolus to sleep my Dahlias are still blooming their heads off to my surprise Zone 5 🇨🇦 This is my first year over wintering corms and tubers. Bonne chance 😊

Thank you so much for this video. My community where I live is enjoying great warm enough fall right now so I will not pull my Dahlias until another week or so. This helps me to know exactly what to do with my Dahlia tubers. I’m a little nervous about their health while I put them away but I can only try. I’m a Newbie Gardener, just a year in. 😊 This is my first time planting Dahlias and they showed up and showed out! The yellow Kelvin Floodlight Dahlias are showstoppers! They light up my heart! Thanks again. 🙌🏽🥰

Such great information. I have always been too scared to store my dahlias in crates obver winter. I usually dry out the pots, nd store over winter that way. But now I have over 60 dahlias and I no longer have the space to store\the dahlias this way so will have to take them from their pots, dry off the soil and wrap my dahlias this winter. I will follow what you have taught us. Thank you again :-)

I'm so happy you posted a new video since you haven't posted in few weeks. I forget you have huge garden and may need to winterize bulbs. I only have few dahlia bulbs which I grow them in pots and I just cut down the stalk and carry the pots into unfinished basement. In the spring, when it is time to wake the bulbs, I replace the pot with fresh soil and give them some light and water.

Have you lost any this way? I always wonder why people don’t just do that. I don’t have any Dahlias but if I were to grow any that is exactly what I would do.

Excellent tutorial Claus! You are so right, there are so many ways to store dahlia tubers. It all depends on your climate and more importantly the immediate environment for storage. My climate is humid but my house is on the dry side during the winter. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Claus. Always good to see a new video from you. My Dahlias took so long to bloom, I will have to start in pots next year. I was going to let them bloom til frost takes them, and then dig them. I will see if that works.

Hello and thank you for all your valuable advice. I live on Reunion Island and my region is very humid. I just started my dahlias of the year in pots. I hope the results will be good. The heavy rains of 2020 caused many tubers to rot. I will also keep them as you do, it's a great idea and a good recycling of the news papers! Good continuation.

@@StudioPashnada i know! Uniformity and simplicity is his style. I transplanted two cafe au lait into pots to move them to a sunnier area. Both did well although a foot shorter than one plant on the ground.

You have made me a believer in how well the concept of growing dahlias in containers work. Instead of digging them out of the ground it is soooo much easier to pop them out of their container, clean them up and store them. Brilliant! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. I have enjoyed your garden so much, I only wish that you would have posted more videos of your exquisite garden. 🌸 🌷 🌺 💐 🌸 🌷

After putting on the newspaper , do you spritz them with a little water every 2 to 3 weeks? Or just leave them be?
@georgschuhmann49763 жыл бұрын
Dear Claus, in your video it seems that you are dividing the tubers right after taking them out of the pots. Is this really recommendable? Up to this point, I had the impression that dividing tubers is something you do in spring time just before you put them back in the ground. Otherwise the risk of drying out would be too great. Nevertheless, thank you again for this inspiring video of your lovely garden.
@dorothyleeuw87743 жыл бұрын
He did not divide them. It appears he had several different clumps in one pot.
