I’ve been putting a band of Vaseline around top stem of dahlias to prevent earwig and caterpillar damage. It works very well 😊 no need for bags.
@Blossomandbranch
@Blossomandbranch Жыл бұрын
Yes, that can work-unfortunately in our altitude it often leads to discoloration and burning along the stem as the sun magnifies the Vaseline!

I use Vaseline and it works. Also, set a few beer traps to reduce the population of earwigs. I don't want to get rid of them just reduce the amount.

@@Blossomandbranch where are you located? Just wondering is zone 5a is okay to try out the Vaseline strategy. Thanks!

In oregon my friend had beautiful dahlia beds. Instead of digging them up, she would dump deep mess of mulch on top and them uncover them in spring.

I am enjoying your videos. Thanks k you. Can you provide some details on your hoop and net system? Links or key words for searching for a great solution and height for 4-5’ dahlias. I am starting off with 75 tubers this year. Looking for a proper setup to kick off this venture/hobby. Thank you!

SO CONFUSING!!! I just watched a dahlia farm giving advice, and they said to fertilise them heaps (with low Ng or cow poo) and to "water, water, water!" The couple in the garden now have been barely watered, and they did well all summer. Going to think you're onto it, with them being from Mexico
@Blossomandbranch
@Blossomandbranch Жыл бұрын
Too much nitrogen will give you healthy leaves for sure! ☺️ I never fertilize mine at all which is probably the opposite end of the spectrum. A little bit will be plenty!

Thank u for this content!! It helped me a lot ❤ but I still have a little doubt, if I can ask you… so.. I planted dahlias in spring without knowing they had bulbs! In fall the plant died and in winter I found out the bulbs. Now these are huge, beautiful and no rotted at all. Probably because winter in my zone is not so cold. So, if the bulbs are perfect there are good chances that they will produce new foliage this spring right?? I’m a little impatient 😢 Thank u once again ❤

Recommendations for insect repellent that’s safe for the Dahlias? I’m having issues with them eating mine. I’ve read that some plants can help prevent them but I don’t have much room for growth where I have mine planted. Also, having a couple plants where the foliage (leaves) appear stunted and not bushy like my other plants. the stems shoot higher above them and are blooming. The foliage just appears to be struggling.

I am growing dahlias for the first time this year. Everything was going well. I got buds on my dinner plate dahlias and then a squirrel decides to break one of the stalks with many buds on it. Anyway for me to save the stalk and have the buds flower? Will the stem take root if I placed it in soil or water?
