Howdy, Prairie Plantgirl!👋 Really nice onions!👍 Thanks for the knowledge.😃 Onions are one of the crops I still find challenging to grow. Hopefully, 2025 will be my turning point.👩🏾🌾 I'm looking forward to your potato harvest.😃💕

It may just be a matter of finding the right onions for your area. I am hoping to get out to dig some potatoes today. The sun is finally out after some not great weather. I’ve been busy in the kitchen canning up all sorts of goodies from the garden. I figure that’s what the cold, wet days are for 😀. Once this final batch of salsa is finished I can go out and tend to the potatoes.

@PrairiePlantgirl My you are fun busy!😃 I need to get more into canning. Right now, I put my salsa, etc. in the freezer. I do make jams and jellies. Your home must smell amazing when you are in the kitchen!😃

Hi ! Nice onion harvest. My Valencias didn’t get very big either and I had a few like yours that grew out the side. They were fine, but their skns were thicker. This was my 1st year with the Elisa Craig (sp ?) They seem to be a nice mild onion. I like your drying set up..everything all together Looking forward to your potato harvest.

Nice crickets! I’ve never grown onions, only garlic and shallots. I wish I had more room!

I always think I should try a few shallots and I never do.

I’ve grown onions from seed for a few years now and always will. Before that I had the experience of purchasing a red onion only to see on the news they were recalled 😮. Because of all the rain this year a few of mine had some rot around the root end. While in storage they need checked just like potatoes and they are sneaky as they rot from the inside. I will eventually chop and freeze some. My varieties were white, red and Ailsa and the latter has shorter storage because it’s a sweet onion. The Blush I had difficulties with last year’s seed and new seed so only a couple and too bad as they are my fav. Definitely try Torpedo onions as they keep very well. Never tried shallots. We don’t have anywhere to keep them besides a spare room, but did create an above ground root cellar. It worked very well during our warm winter last year. Two problems were too much humidity which maybe can be fixed with another vent, but at a cost of losing heat, and the temp monitor fades in and out because of metal material used-not sure how to fix that. I find onions very rewarding. Great points!

I grew the Kelsae sweet onions. I planted a bunch of them in full sun on my neighbour's side of our mutual link fence and another bunch in between my yellow bell peppers, hoping that the onions would deter pests. But the peppers still got infested. The onions in full sun turned out much bigger. I cured them by hanging them off my two racks for drying laundry indoors, in my neighbour's mostly empty garage. (Ours is full.) I am storing them in the plastic milk crate in the basement. But I like your rectangular wire basket. Could you tell me its dimensions and where you bought it?

The rectangular basket is about 8x10x6”. I purchased it at a second hand store. I have seen similar baskets in stores full of bath products (like a gift set).
