I store mine in 5 gal buckets. I keep about a 2 week supply in a container that sits on the counter next to my grain mill. That way, I don't have to get into the bucket as often.

I store in 3.5 buckets with gamma lids... I'm considering the 5 gallon ones tho... I shouldn't have invested in buckets before I knew what I know now 😅 thanks for all your inspirational videos... you always make me smile ❤

I have a large white bucket with a screw on lid……because I grind grain every day and I buy 50 pounds at a tine. I just bought 100 pounds. I get it from a local food coop. It is really reasonable. I make bread constantly for neighbors, friends, parishioners - they give me a donation for the bread and I donate the $ to our Food Pantry in our parish. It is a way for me to live out Jesus’ words………feed the hungry……..and what you do for the least of my brethren you do for Me. I have made over $500 thus far and was able to purchase items that are rarely donated and that they needed badly. It is word of mouth and I even made up cards…………I make the bread for my husband and I as it has helped him greatly with IBS. Thank you for your videos.

I store my wheat berries in 3.5 or 5 gallon buckets with gamma lids on the 3.5 gallon and the plastic lid that comes with the bucket for the 5 gallon as it is longer term storage for me. In the long term storage buckets, I use oxygen absorbers as well as bay leaves that I place in an envelope as a deterrent. I use both 3.5 and 5 gallon buckets as the 5's are a bit heavy. I keep my grains in half gallon jars in my working pantry with only bay leaves. If I suspect that there may have been any prior pest activity in the grain, I will freeze small (about half gallon jar size) amounts in the freezer for a few days and then shake the grains in a sieve to let any debris fall through. I've not yet had evidence of activity, but I am surprised at the amount of dust sometimes. It also lets me pick out any unwanted chaff or such. Sometimes the grain I buy is perfectly clean and sometimes not. It's worth the savings to me to pick out debris on occasion, as I get my organic grains at a good price. I started milling my own wheat and baking my own bread during the pandemic. I think I may have only bought 5 loaves of store bread since beginning this adventure, as I throughly enjoy it. Thanks so much for the inspiration to try some of your recipes. I've made your einkorn muffins (yum!), lentil loaf muffins (yum AND hubby approved), barley pancakes with yogurt and pecans (YUM!!!) and I'm currently rising a loaf of your sourdough spelt sandwich bread. 😋

Mary I received my Nutrimill, thank you for your code. I ordered grains from Janies Mill and the instructions in the box stated to refrigerate the wheat berries upon arrival. I plan on placing the wheat berries in white buckets with the oxygen absorbers. Oh gosh, I hope when I open the bags my grains don't have moisture 😳 I will check in the morning and start my baking this weekend 😊

I store mine in large buckets with the twist lids and oxygen absorbers. It works out really well, and they don't take up much space as they stack well!!

I store my berries in 5 gallon food grade buckets with gamma lids. I get my wheat berries and our corn from my husbands family farm. So we really save money. Wheat berries “free”, corn “free”. I do purchase spelt and kamut. I

I just ordered a couple buckets from Amazon. I have several smaller bags of assorted grain that needs a place besides a cardboard box in my bedroom. I've been playing around with milling my own wheat a couple or so weeks in my Vitamix. My family loves the things I've made. My daughter ordered a NutriMill for me for Mother's Day. It arrives tomorrow. I'm so excited. I've got a loaf of bread in the oven right now!

So you might want to tell people how many cc their oxygen absorber should be. I think if I understood it right that you use 2500 cc for a 5 gallon bucket I think you use 100 cc for a pint or a quart and 500 cc for a gallon and maybe 1000 cc for a two or 3 gallon. But I’m just not sure. That’s what I use. Hopefully it’s close enough.

Good to hear!!! I store my wheat berries in five gallon size food grade buckets with the knock-off gamma lids by Lowe’s. I also store in gallon sized glass jars. I have oxygen absorbers and bay leaves for each bucket. But I still “clean” my wheat berries by picking out rocks and odd/black things before I use it. I bought Mylar bags to go inside my 5 gallon buckets, but they didn’t fit well. So I need to find a better brand. I haven’t put the oxygen absorbers in because they come in a big package and I’m not sure how to store the oxygen absorbers once I open it and use some. Any ideas on that?

I put mine in a zip lock bag and so far they have kept. They will change color when they are spent. I haven't had any change in over a year so far.

Do you keep the grain in the Mylar bag inside the bucket or do you open the bag and dump the grain into the bucket?

I am looking to buy a grinder but am wondering if anyone here uses fresh flour with a bread machine. I'm sure there would be an adjustment in the recipe.

I haven't but I know a lot of people that do. Most of the people in the freshly milled flour group I am in on Facebook use one, actually with great success!

Hello Mary!!! So I should get moisture or oxygen absorbers? Because those are VERY DIFFERENT from each other. Lol. I’m just confused. Thank you so much and THANK YOU for this video!!!🎉
@TheRoseHomestead

I use oxygen absorbers. Since they are in a bucket they with a tight lid, I don't worry about moisture.
