Good video! As I have done every year for the last 8, the insurance came off the Corvette (fire and theft still on, of course) on November 1, did a thorough wash job on the last warm day, put in the fuel stabilizer and put fabric softener sheets around in the interior, which apparently rodents don't like the smell of, plus put steel wool into the exhaust tips. I run a battery charger through the cigarette lighter but with a Corvette you pretty much have to do that if the car is only sitting for a week. Although in previous years I always filled the tank, GM has recommended not doing that, feeling the condensation issue is overrated and having all that weight sitting is not so good. When I told a leading Corvette expert that I don't start the car for the six months it is stored, he thought it would be better to run the car once a month but not just to idle it but go out for 15-20 minutes. I have not had any issues just leaving it and prefer to just do that rather than plow my street in Ottawa with it!

Taking it out for 20 minutes each month is highly dependent on how where you live treats the roads, totally agree!

VERY timely video! I'm about to tuck in my '07 Vantage for the winter. Glad you cleared up the thing about periodically starting it. I always thought that it would do more harm than good, and you confirmed it!

I store my Mustang over the winter and have started it about once a month in the past to avoid the oil condensation issue, but you seem to be in the more majority of opinions that doing that does more harm than good. I typically change my oil in the fall, because thats when I hit about 4k miles. Not sure how much the condensation issue really is if you leave it sit for 4 months but I don’t really want to waste money and change my oil again in the spring ha. It’s probably fine.

Thinking of getting a challenger soon so this helps because I refuse to drive that thing in a Chicago winter 😂

I end up with flat spots on the tires in the spring this year I will jack and block the car up. Pulling off the ground cable will stop the drain, but you will have to reset your clock, make sure you know your anti-theft code for your radio. Check your battery maintainer regularly mine got unplugged once. Your MR 2 looks like a mini Ferrari, cool

I always thought that putting a cover on when stored inside achieved nothing but more of an opportunity for damage. Nice to have a pro detailer confirm my suspicions ;-0 Ever have any AC problems? I gather storage is less than ideal for the system. Anything in particular you do? Probably not a lot that can be done unless you start the car here and there, and I agree that’s a bad idea. I changed the oil ahead of storage because the car was brand new and had dirty breakin oil. It will be stored at a constant 20 degrees Celsius all winter. Shouldn’t I be okay to just drive on that oil in the spring without changing it on account of the constant 20 degree storage temp? The other thing, many suggest to try and turn the car over without actually starting it when taking it out of storage…by removing the fuel pump fuse or something…just to move a bit of oil around. You’ve never bother with that, eh? Loved the video. Great car too. Cheers

No AC on this car and it cranks for a while before it starts due to the ECU setup so it kind of does that on its own for me. I would think the oil is fine for next year, shouldn't be any condensation built up in heated storage

So you should change the oil before driving it?

Do you think a ceramic coating might protect the car from a car cover?

Will EVERY car cover put swirl marks on the car? For hypothetical argument, if the car cover is made of microfiber, will that still put swirl marks on the car?

Gas station is 10 miles from my home. And my car gets about 10 mpg. Haha. So its tough to top up and make it home "full" 😂

Doesn't the battery lose capacity if it's always charging?
@CanadianGearhead10 ай бұрын
A tender doesn't constantly charge it, just waits for it to drop and gives it a little top up
