Is it possible to get one device that you plug in all 3 cameras to go into the laptop or do you need to buy a separate piece of hardware for each camera you connect in? Thanks - great tutorial!

If you only have HDMI out on your cameras, I don't know of an external device that brings in multiple HDMI (manufacturers that you might contact to see if they make something are: aja, black magic, or Matrox). There are some cards if you want to build your own computer. If your cameras support SDI output then a great piece of hardware I started using recently is: The AJA 4kio www.aja.com/products/io-4k it supports 4 SDI Video inputs OR 3 SDI video and 1 HDMI input and it can be daisy chained (have not tried daisy chaining yet). It requires it's own power supply but it works well for bringing in multiple feeds into a laptop.

The laptop that I use has 2 Thunderbolt connections, so for camera 1 and 2 I used Thunderbolt, for camera 3 I used USB 3. Older model macbooks may have a firewire port and thunderbolt. Firewire used to be a standard way of connecting cameras to the computer, but I have not used it on a mac laptop, so I don't know what hardware is available to connect it to current cameras.

What about audio? Would you use one camera as the "primary" audio source if say you were using a lapel mic since they were all streaming audio/video back via Hdmi>bmd box>thunderbolt cable or could you use another solution obviously everything depends on camera placement and distance but could you run it back to an audio recorder that has a mic output and bring it into the mic input on the computer and still have wirecast recognize it?
@sterlingteaches
@sterlingteaches 9 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy Ables For Audio if the venue has a mixer(or if you mix your own audio) I try to get a direct feed I plug it into one camera, then in wirecast I change all the audio inputs to be that camera. Right click on the source and check the camera with the direct line attached to it, and uncheck the other camera audio source. That way the audio doesn't change when you switch cameras. If I don't have a live mixer, I input the camera with the best audio/mic set up. You also can have multiple audio sources selected at the same time. I hope that helps.

@sterlingteaches
@sterlingteaches 8 жыл бұрын
Depending on the budget and what you have for a video switcher there are many things to consider... I use canon cameras, we Have used Canon XA10s (with their optional battery because our graduation is over 2 hours and the regular battery didn't last) but this year upgraded to XA25 and love them! HDMI video signal doesn't travel very far, www.popularmechanics.com/home/how-to/a6751/how-to-extend-your-hdmi-cables/ I tried different things like extenders etc, but didn't work for HDMI over 25', Tricaster makes 100' HDMI cables www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1085185-REG/newtek_fg_000879_r001_tricaster_mini_hdmi_cable.html that have worked well for me*--They work well in sending the signal and Wirecast sees it just fine, but the connectors are garbage and fall off easily (If you get these wrap gaffers tape around the connectors so they stay on) I think they are overpriced too, but the cheap ones I tried didn't carry a signal at all. We had to buy an HDMI Mini to HDMI cable converter (don't buy the cheap kind they don't work) We connected these to canon xa10 hdmi mini out with an adapter www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/981166-STUD/pearstone_hd_aracmaf_male_hdmi_c_m_ra_to.html/mode/edu We were able to upgrade our cameras to XA25 this camera has SDI output which allows you to go much further over easily a couple hundred feet. (if you go this option make sure your switcher has SDI input-these cameras still do HDMI) I bought a spool of coax cable from home depot and made my own cables for our graduation last year and it worked very well- I ran the cable from the top of the bleachers to past where the graduates where sitting so we could see them. We switched using wirecast. It worked very well. If this is out of your budget go with a namebrand camera (sony,Canon) that has HDMI Mini out connect it with the above mentioned connector to HDMI cables or buy HDMI mini to HDMI cables and run it to your switcher (or computer with Tricaster). Sorry for the long answer, I've done graduation a few times and thought I'd share anything that might be helpful.

If your cameras have SDI video out we use a AJA 4kio for 4 cameras kzbin.info/www/bejne/invCf3WQgt2SY5I If you only have HDMI out from the camera... I haven't tried it, but it looks like a good solution: Atem Television Studio HD, it works for both HDMI and SDI, www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/atemtelevisionstudiohd I recommend 8-10 Mbs upload speed. Stream in 720 to conserve bandwidth unless you have super fast internet. Use ethernet cables not wifi for streaming. If possible be on internet(ethernet) that the fans won't be using they will drop your bandwidth quickly. Here is a chart for bandwidth streaming: support.ustream.tv/hc/en-us/articles/207852117-Internet-connection-and-recommended-encoding-settings I hope that helps.

When using cameras from various locations away from the computer to get various angles, does it matter the length of the cable vs quality of the video? What is the length of the longest cable that can be purchased for the hdmi video streaming?
@sterlingteaches
@sterlingteaches 8 жыл бұрын
+Andrea Slaven If you google hdmi cable run length you will find charts that explain how far you can run an hdmi cable. I have heard 50' as a general rule, I have tried to keep it under 25'. Some companies sell longer cables, like newtek tricaster 100' HDMI cables, I have tried these cables and they carried the signal fine, but the cables are cheaply made and the end connectors fell off quickly. If your cameras support component cable (red/Green/Blue) cables you can get the distance considerably further but requires 3 cables Plus 2 for audio. You might contact a reputable vendor that specializes in video equipment and ask them they could give more specific details on length. Hope that helps

Sterling Miller thank u for the reply the only reason I was concidering 70 was because of the AVCHD format compared to the mp4 format I heard it cuts every 15-30 mins but it has more space as u said and WiFi. I find that may give me a problem with the cuts within the editing process. I don’t want it to be noticeable because I will be making long videos 1 hour long max and I’m trying to get a good opinion for a starter I also need the WiFi so I could live stream.. on YT.. I know the 70 is a older model an I’m worried about the WiFi being compatible with my current iOS Devices. which model more compatible with current ios with the WiFi option and which allows for an additional mic? is the r80-82 mp4 format hard to work around or is the AVCHD Format easier for what I want to do when it comes to using editing software which format is best for PC I need the help I’m trying to choose between which is compatible and will give me both good enough picture for my buget compatibility with my devices thank you for the help in advance
@sterlingteaches
@sterlingteaches 4 жыл бұрын
@@lady7571 The older models used to cut mp4 every 30 minutes, the really older models would actually stop recording every 30 minutes in mp4. I have a couple of the vixia models and I try to always record in the Mp4 format-- it works easier to edit the quality may be less (I can't tell the difference between the filetypes quality). The Mp4 is a much easier file type to work with. If the cameras do cut the videos into clips it is probably because the files have reached 4 GB, but the camera would have to be in its highest recording setting (if it is less than 35mbs you should be fine). I think the cameras are both comparable--you shouldn't notice a difference in video quality. Both should have 3.5 mm mic plug (size of headphones). If you go to bhphotovideo.com find the two cameras and ask a question you are sure to get a clear answer. I would test it on my cameras but they are locked away as my work is closed for the time being.

Hi! Thank you for this very helpful information. I had a few questions: Does streaming two cameras at a time slow your computer/ the Wirecast Software down, or create any glitches in your Live Stream? Also, do I need any additional gadgets for quality audio? Lastly, am I able to Live Stream for both KZbin and Facebook at the same time? I am trying to set up a live stream for an event that requests live streams for both Facebook and KZbin at the same time. I have two cameras and two BMD mini recorders as mentioned in this video. Any suggestions on how to work this out would be greatly appreciated.
@sterlingteaches
@sterlingteaches 7 жыл бұрын
Each stream will slow down your computer. But it all depends on your computer's set up (processor, ram etc). It also depends on your video quality, higher quality takes requires a better processor. I have a 2014 really strong Macbookpro with 8GB and an i7 processor and I can have 3-4 cameras work (single stream) without issues, though it pushes the processor to it's limits. The best audio quality would come from a an audio mixer, if your venue has a sound board try to plug directly into that. I usually plug in the audio through the camera (this video shows how I do audio kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6mapHl4isyoj80) You could get an audio mixer that plugs in via USB, but I don't do this so I don't have an exact recommendation. Yes you should be able to stream to both FB and KZbin at the same time in the output settings just make sure to select both youtube and facebook, but you will need a lot of bandwidth. (I have only briefly experimented with dual streams that seems to push my processor and cause hickups) Make sure to connect to the internet via Ethernet not over wif. Search online for streaming bandwidth calculator and it will give you ideas on how much bandwidth you will need. This will also put more strain on your processor. If you have the equipment, I recommend setting it up with private streams ahead of time and try it out before you get to the venue. Hopefully that helps.

I just have it set to whatever the default is, It is 1080, but I don't know the details. The USB 3.0 doesn't work on all computers. Unfortunately no dice, apparently the canon hf r700 and 600 are some of the only cameras that don't work because the hdmi output is locked at 1080p60 and the devices can only handle 1080p30 max, so you must be some sort of wizard to get three of them working at the same time.

Rookie question: I have just recently started live streaming, and have an increased need for more than two webcams. Before spending the extra cash needed for this equipment, do you think it could accommodate the extra web cams for live streams?
@sterlingteaches
@sterlingteaches 9 жыл бұрын
+Adam Philpott If it is already struggling to process I don't think adding more would help. If they are USB webcams and you don't need additional converters, I recommend setting up a "private" live stream with all of your cameras, and see what happens, if it works great, but if not then you'd know.

It depends on your computer's set up. In this video I'm using a Macbook pro that has 2 Thunderbolt ports and 2 USB ports. You can connect 2 Black Magic mini Recorders to the thunderbolt, and 1 Intensity Shuttle to a USB, then ethernet to Ethernet USB. If your computer doesn't have all those ports (and the ability to support all of those simultaneously you'll have to find another way). If your cameras have SDI output in (different from HDMI) You can use an AJA io 4k, here's a video I made showing how to use that one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/invCf3WQgt2SY5I There might even be a newer technology that would work for it.

HDMI is very limited on how far you can run it. There are 100' cables made by NewTek www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1085185-REG/newtek_fg_000879_r001_tricaster_mini_hdmi_cable.html which worked well to send the signal 100'. Depending on your camera you probably will need a mini HDMI to HDMI connector. I tried other long HDMI cables and these are the only ones that I was able to get to work consistently, but they are poorly made and the connectors on both ends fall off. (I taped the ends so they don't fall off and they work great). The other option is upgrade to cameras that send video via SDI (Canon XA 35 is an example). That greatly increases the distance you can go. I've also used on camera encoders to send a signal by Teradek but they are costly. Hope that helps.

Matt Fuller I use Canon Video Cameras various models, usually I use XA10s (I have other consumer models, but they are no longer made) they work fine. If I were to buy again and had the budget I would go with XA25. I would recommend them they work for my use. I also would recommend contacting a professional camera shop Like BHPhoto in NY and telling them what you want to use the camera for and ask for their recommendation.

Do you need to use the BlackMagic Design Mini Recorder or can you go straight to a standard Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter that can be found on Amazon?? Thank you.
@sterlingteaches
@sterlingteaches 7 жыл бұрын
You will need something that converts the signal. The cables that I have seen that are just adapters from HDMI to Thunderbolt are just cables and don't change the signal at all. Read through the comments of the product that you have found and see if complains about it not working--if so chances are it doesn't work. There are other video converters out there, the mini recorder is one that I found works form me. Make sure to get something that converts signal not just adapts the cable. Hope that helps.

The intensity works well on Mac and is hit and miss on PC. There is a newer camera input device by magewell that works much better on both PC and Mac. For HDMI www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1105735-REG/magewell_xi_100_d_usb_hdmi_one_hd_hdmi_usb.html or for sdi www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1350328-REG/magewell_32070_usb_3_0_sdi_capture.html?sts=pi&pim=Y they cost more than the intensity but the ease of use makes them much better in my mind.

Hi, I am trying to use a Canon Vixia HF R700 with the Intensity Shuttle on a Macbook Pro Mid 2012 model, with the latest OSX. Although, the camcorder does not seem to be sending out any video or audio to Wirecast, or any other software that is applicable with the Blackmagicdesign Intensity Shuttle such as Blackmagic Media Express for example. The Intensity Shuttle does function correctly, as I have tested it with both PC, and Mac to determine the USB 3.0 chipset compatibility as some can be slightly different that can cause compatibility issues, but this does not seem to be one of them. I have been able to get the Intensity Shuttle to render audio and video through a Canon EOS 70D, though it doesn't seem to want to work with the camcorder that I have, which seems very similar to the one's you are using for your setup. I am wondering what model's your camcorders are, and if there is a firmware update that may fix the incompatibility issue.

It depends on which version of software you are using. In version 5 (older) I create the title in photoshop with transparency (search online how to do that) save it as a PNG Then drag it into wire cast. If you are using a newer version search youtube for adding titles to wirecast # (replace # with the version you are using). I believe that you can click on the plus then a gear icon and choose new title, but I can't remember exactly.

@sterlingteaches
@sterlingteaches 9 жыл бұрын
Reon Matthee If the church uses a sound mixing board for the speaker, the board should have audio out and if your camera supports audio in (via line or mic plug) you should be able to get the sound directly from the speaker. (you may need a special cable to connect the two. In an auditorium our audio board(mixer) has a red and white circle that say rec out (RCA) and I plug that into the mic (3.5 mm) on my camera and get clear sound. We need to use a Male RCA to Male 3.5mm) cable. It all depends on the audio configuration. If there is a person who runs they sound you may ask them for Audio out, and see what type of cable they give you. if you If your church doesn't use a audio mixing board then you might get a battery powered shotgun microphone. But going through the sound board is your best bet.

Reon Matthee You can go as far as your cables will let you. If your cameras have SDI video out you can go much further I think up to a couple hundred feet, if you don't have SDI videos on your camera (check the user manual) then you are limited to the length of HDMI cable that you have. I use a 25' and 50' HDMI cable, I don't know if it will work for lengths longer than that.
