Extremely late but i dont think anyone pointed this out. The tool you used to wind down the tuning pegs is also used to remove the bridge pins. The end with the little "C" cutout is used to slip under the bridge pins on the top of the bridge. Once it's under one of them just put your thumb on top of the pin and pull and it will come right out.

Great video! Would you be able to make a video comparing the 12 string with this tuning versus having it with the 2nd set of strings an octave up. It'd be cool to see if it's possible to do both folk and corridos with a tuning
@SethCottengim Жыл бұрын
This part way answers your question. One of the most popular songs as of recently was Jugaste Y Sufri. That was played on a 12 string with octaves. Also a lot of Danny Lux songs use octaves. SO yes there is a very real possibility to do folk and corridos
@KaptainCanuck Жыл бұрын
Strings must wind down the tuning pegs. It takes tension off the top and puts it nearer the headstock where there is strength. Also, those strips of metal are officially called fretwires. The frets are the spaces of the fretboard between the fretwires. What you called the bottom of the guitar is the top because they are the highest strings (the top is the bottom and vice versa).
@SethCottengim Жыл бұрын
This is all very very good advice thank you. Everyone listen to captain kanuck

It said on the takamine website that they recommended taking the guitar to file the nut to give space for the string gauge for requinto . Because the strings are a bit bigger than what the traditional 12 String is set up for. Is this true or can I be good to set up my guitar from stock with the original nut set up straight to requinto or should I take it to the shop to get the nut filed for a better string fit?

An issue I ran into with this is that my takamine’s nut does not fit two of the same strings. Octave slot is to thin. So if anyone has that issue make sure to take it to a guitar luthier so they can file your nut and get ur guitar ready for the extra tension
@SethCottengim9 ай бұрын
So I took a little bit of sand paper to the nut of my guitar to make it fit, BUT I only did a tiny tiny bit cuz I didn’t want to do some kind of irreversible damage. I recommend you take it to a luthier for sure, but if you are willing to take the risk… a couple passes with sand paper in the slot just enough so the string doesn’t slip out can “work”

The top 4 strings should be in pairs an octave apart. The action and tension on the guitar should be set up for this out of the factory. Just buy the right string set in the first place instead of 2 sets made for 6 strings. Also the other end of the string winder has a tool for popping out the pegs from the top. Instead of scissors, buy a cheap pair of nail clippers (but never use them for nails again) if you don't want to spring the extra few dollars for a proper cutter - nail clippers let you get in closer and if you're careful are less likely to do damage to your head and tuners than scissors.
